Some Review Ideas....

Well, it's been awhile since my Persona 4 Golden review went live, and since then I've been throwing around a few ideas for some upcoming reviews. For the past few months or so a few people have been requesting that I continued with my GCN Classic review series, but a few other games have gotten in my, and in the end they took priority over them. Really for quite some time now I have been wanting to review Legend of Zelda Wind Waker, Paper Mario Thousand Year Door, and Kirby Air Ride, but every time I sat down to work on one of them something else showed up. Metal Gear Rising was released, Tomb Raider was released, Fire Emblem Awakening came out, and I also finally got around to playing Persona 4 Golden (which I felt deserved to be reviewed). Really I just haven't had the time to stick to older games, when newer ones are still being released all the time.

Now, with that being said, I do have a few reviews I plan on doing very soon, but I'm really not sure when I'll be able to get them out. The thing is, June is tomorrow and it is going to be a VERY busy month! First of all, Animal Crossing New Leaf finally is going to be released here in the states on the 9th, The Last of Us will be out within the next two weeks, Project X Zone is finally coming to the west (which is actually a pretty big shock), Capcom's new IP Remember Me will be launching as well, and there's a few others coming out as well. To sum it up, a lot of big name games that a lot of us have been waiting years for will finally be coming out, and I plan on reviewing quite a few of them.

Although I know I wont be able to pick up every game this month, I do plan on getting Animal Crossing, The Last of Us, and Project X Zone for sure. While The Last of Us will take priority over the other games as far as its review goes, I would also really like to review Project X Zone as well. These type of crossover games rarely make it to the west, and it is a game that I feel a lot more people should know about. Although, there are a few other games I'd like to review as well.

As most of you know, on the 30th Legend of Zelda Oracle of Ages and Seasons finally hit the Nintendo eShop which is the first time we've seen the games since 2001. Due to its eShop release, a lot of new comers are getting into the games, and the nostalgia of replaying them really makes me want to do a quick review of them as well. Although they are older games, they really aren't as dated as you'd think, and they really do still hold up even after all these years. On top of that I've also been playing through the Metal Gear Solid HD collection, which is a set of games I've been wanting to review since Netto's Game Room opened up in 2011.

Well, anyway, although I do plan on reviewing quite a few games very soon, I really can't promise anything. I've been pretty busy lately, and there really is no telling when I'll be able to get to them all. Either way though, you can expect to see at least one new review very soon!

Netto's Daily Challenge: Super Smash Bros Brawl

Here we are at day 3 of our Daily Challenge series, and it looks like this time around we will be going back to a Nintendo game. Now our last challenge was a Mega Man X5 X-Buster/no armor run (congrats to all of you who contacted me telling me you completed the challenge), and it was sort of one of them challenged aimed at die hard fans. While a new comer to X5 may have a hard time with it, die hard fans who have beaten the game hundreds of times most likely found it easy. The same sort of thing is going to happen with today's challenge as well. While it will be a challenge, it may not actually be as hard as it sounds. So, anyway, lets get to the challenge!

Netto's Daily Challenge: Super Smash Bros Brawl - Beat Event 41 Hard Mode with 5 specific characters!

The Event Mode in Smash Bros Brawl is generally considered to be the hardest part of the game. The game makes you play as a specific character, and you must complete specific goals under set conditions. Sometimes you have to break some sort of objects in the stage before the enemy kills you, and other times you simply have to survive. Well with Event 41, things are actually changed up a bit.

Event 41 has you fighting Giant Mario, Sonic, and Snake all at the same time, and each one has a stock count of two. Although you can in fact pick any character to go through this event, today's challenge is not going to allow that. In fact to complete this challenge you will have to finish Event 41 on Hard Mode with the 5 characters of my choosing. Yes, that's right, you are going to have to test your skills as 5 set characters which you may or may not even use. So, who are the characters you will have to use for this one? Well none other than....

- Mr. Game & Watch
- Jigglypuff
- Ice Climbers
- Captain Olimar
- Princess Peach

Now I know what some of you may be saying, but don't worry; each one of the above characters have their own strengths, and any die hard Smash Bros Brawl fan should be able to use them to their advantage easily. So anyway, that's today's challenge! As always, feel free to contact me if you've managed to complete the challenge, or feel free to just simply leave your comments below. Please keep in mind that in order to leave a comment you must have a Google account (or another account from another service which we support), and you must click "join" on the left of this post.

Good luck everyone!

Netto's Daily Challenge: Mega Man X5

Well here we are again, and it turns out today's daily challenge is going to be yet another classic! The game randomly chosen today was Mega Man X5 on the Sony PlayStation One. It was the X game released to be the "end" of the series before moving onto the brand new Mega Man Zero saga, and it was also the first X game that truly let you play as any character you wanted (X and Zero), whenever you wanted.

So, anyway, if you have Mega Man X5 on the PlayStation One, or in any other form (X Collection); then feel free to jump in and try out the challenge! Now since yesterday's challenge was a speed run, today's is going to be a little bit different.

Netto's Daily Challenge: Mega Man X5 - No armor, X Buster ONLY!

For today's challenge you have to run through Mega Man X5, using only X, and NEVER using any armor upgrades or any special weapons. You must complete the game with X's classic armor, and you can only use his default X buster. Now when you start the game off, you will start out with an armor upgrade by default, so the very first stage of the game is going to be an exception to this rule. However; once you finish the intro stage and get into the main game, you must then use only standard X.

Now, although the challenge is to beat the game with armorless X, and by only using the X buster; feel free to take this challenge to the next level! If you wish to do so, try to complete the game using standard X, with the X buster only, and while NEVER picking up any upgrades as well. This means no heart tanks, and even no sub tanks. This is a completely naked run with nothing but X's default equipment. If you want to take this challenge on as a bonus, by all means go for it!

Well, personally I love Mega Man X5, and I have played through it many times. I know first hand just how challenging this challenge can be so let me be the first to wish you all good luck! Also, like always, feel free to post videos or even reply to this blog post to let us know if you've completed the challenge.

Sonic Lost World is a Sequel to Sonic Colors it seems

Just the other day the trailer for Sonic Lost World was released, and fans have been talking about it ever since. While not much has been confirmed about Lost World, some aspects of the game are slowly starting to come into the light. Now I didn't point this out back when I posted the trailer (as I mainly focused on how it seemed to be Sonic Xtreme reborn), but there are some details that appear to show that this game is a sequel to the Wii exclusive Sonic Colors. Now the easiest way to prove this is to watch the trailer for yourself, and take it frame by frame, but here's a few features I'd like to point out.

  • Wisps are back. While we don't know how big of a role they will play, the cyan diamonds that were used for the laser ability can be seen in the trailer, and even a cyan wisp container can be seen at one point.
  • Animals and classic enemies make their return, and so do a few other Green Hill like aspects. For example Sonic can be seen running over the bridge that's near the start of Green Hill, and even some of the background objects can be seen. Although we haven't really seen any other stages, they too may be based on areas from Sonic's past; or even based on areas seen in Xtreme.
  •  Sonic's spin has returned as well. According to SEGA's official summary, it is in fact the "spin dash;" however that could mean anything. It could be an actual spin dash feature, or it could be Sonic's top speed like in Generations. We'll just have to wait and find out for sure.
  • At another point in the trailer you can see rings being pulled toward Sonic as he runs by them. Although it is too early to tell, this may confirm some type of Sonic dash that we've become used to seeing since Unleashed. Although this isn't official/confirmed.
  •  There are 6 main "zones" in the game, but there may be a 7th final area as well. Although this is just speculation, that may be where Eggman is. On a side note, it turns out Sonic ended up in this Lost World as he chased Eggman through space. This could possibly be another connection the game has to Colors.
  • Its a minor detail, but the checkpoints are in the style of the ones seen in the classic games.
  • Although this is to be expected, it seems the game will in fact be keeping the "new" voice actors. In other words, Roger Craig Smith is still Sonic. (Pretty sure it's too early to be thinking about changing now, but with SEGA you never really know what to expect.)
Well, that about sums up everything we know about the game just from the trailer. With E3 just around the corner, I'm sure even more of the game will come to light very soon.

Update: According to SEGA's official webpage, a few more features have been confirmed as well. First of all the Wii U version will have a race style multiplayer mode. You will be able to challenge your friends, to races to show off your skills. Second of all, it turns out that there will in fact be new wisp powers included in the game as well. Although we aren't sure what these powers will include, it turns out one of them will allow Sonic to "fly through the air." Finally, it turns out the 3DS version of the game in fact be in full 3D! Although there is no official word on if it is going to in fact be the same game as the Wii U version, at least we know it'll be somewhat the same. For more check out SEGA's official page by going to the following URL:

Netto's Daily Challenge: Legend of Zelda Majora's Mask

Hey everyone, what's going on? Today I wanted to introduce a brand new blog series here at the game room, and this time around it is one everyone can take part in! From this day forward, each day a random challenge will be posted here on the blog, and it will be up to you to complete the said task. These challenges will be all video game related challenges, and they can be from just about any game. The way this works is, I'll be using a random generator to pick a random video game from a list of around 1000 games. Theses games can be on just about any system, and the challenges can be just about anything. So anyway, to start things out today's challenge is going to be a pretty simple one.

Netto's Daily Challenge: Legend of Zelda Majora's Mask - Speed run the game in 2 hours

To start things off, today's challenge is going to be a tricky one, but it shouldn't be too challenging for long time fans. If you have Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask (any version of it), turn it on, start a brand new save file, and beat the game in less than 2 hours! Yep, that's right, today's challenge is a speed run of Majora's Mask, and the only rules are that you must start a new save file, and that it must be a clean run. No action replays or any other hacking devices.

So, anyway, good luck everyone! Feel free to comment if you complete the challenge, or even feel free to upload a video of your speed run! This is a personal challenge so its up to you if you want to take it or not, but it might just give you a reason to replay one of the classics!

Note: You do not have to 100% the game. This speed run is from the intro to the boss fight only; side quests do not count.

Sonic Lost World - Sonic Xtreme?

The first trailer of Sonic Lost Worlds has finally been released, and it is actually pretty shocking! Now if you're a long time Sonic fan I'm sure you'll notice it right away, so how about we watch the trailer before I say anymore?

So, what do you notice? Well, it seems that Lost World truly WAS a lost world! The gameplay has a striking resemblance to the canceled Sonic Xtreme, and at this point it may even be a rebooted Xtreme! As you can see the entire world seems to wrap around Sonic as he speeds through it, and even the small animals make their return. As for the gameplay itself, it appears to feature a lot of the same old style we are used to, and it also appears to have a mix of 2D and 3D gameplay, but some new moves have been added in as well. Sonic can now do a special wall run, and he also can kick off of the enemies he homing attacks to as well.

Although information on the game is pretty limited, I'm pretty sure we all know what to expect from this. It's the rebirth of a game fans have waited many years for, and it is coming to the Wii U and 3DS!

Are horror games actually scary?

When you hear the words horror, video, and game together, what do you think of? Some dark and depressing game that is designed to scare the heck out of you? Or do you just see it as a game set in a sort of twisted setting? Well, I guess it really depends on your experience with the genre, but the thing is; everything has changed. Back in the early 90s survival horror games were quite popular, and they were some of the few games that could give you a good scare. Games like Resident Evil brought players to a zombie infested world where they had to survive, while others used nightmare fuel to their advantage. Even so, looking back on it all now, and looking at the games we get today; are horror games truly as "scary" as we make them out to be?

If you look back on old horror survival games, they were scary for a lot of reasons; however none of which are the reasons you'd expect. While games like Resident Evil had some freaky looking zombies for the time, now days zombies really aren't that big of a deal. In today's world the whole zombie thing is overdone, and just about every company out there has included zombies in some shape or form. Heck even the world of Pokemon has a realistic zombie in it, in the form of Parasect. When Paras evolves into a Parasect, the mushroom on its back kills the host, and completely takes over its body. This is why Parasect has white eyes, and appears as if it may be dead. Really though, this type of thing just isn't as shocking anymore, and a lot of people have come to expect it. So, just why was Resident Evil so freaky back then? Well, that actually comes more from the fear of the unknown, as well as the fact that you had to survive.

Back in the day in horror survival games, you really had no idea what to expect. Just about anything could pop out to scare you when you least expected it, but once you saw it happen once or twice you would most likely get over it; however the whole survival aspect was still there. The thing is, Resident Evil had limited resources, and that included save points. You had to save as many resources as possible if you wanted a chance of beating the game, and sometimes getting cornered and getting killed would result in hours of hard work being lost. Features such as this is what made horror games, well, horror games, and why players got so freaked out when a monster showed up. Now sure, some people may have truly been scared of the way something looked, but now days even freaky looking monsters is normal.

In today's horror games, things have changed a lot form the past. No longer are games survival games, but rather flat out action. Now days when you run into an enemy, instead of being scared of it or trying to run away, you simply blow it to bits and move onto the next. There is no real sense of fear, and you really have nothing to use. In order to make up for this lack of fear, games now days do try to use the atmosphere to its advantage instead. By using lighting effects to make the world seem dark and dreary, some games can create a "spooky" or Halloween like world, but even that goes so far by today's standards.

With today's realistic games and over the top violence, it seems a lot of gamers just sort of tune it out. Everyone just gets so used to seeing it, that it really doesn't impact them in anyway. It's a lot like when someone tells you a joke; the first time you hear it you may laugh, but what happens if someone tells it over and over again? It becomes less funny that's what. If you're playing a video game that has violence, and it is in fact the first time you saw anything like it; it may shock you the first time around. For example you might see someone blow up in a war game like Call of Duty: World at War, and it may flat out disturb you at first. Now, what happens when you've seen it happen hundreds of times as you play? Just like with the joke, it becomes less shocking, and you've come to expect it; it isn't anything new, and you have no reason to be surprised at seeing it.

Although it is true that every horror game is unique, and they all have their own moments to try and scare you, these moments will still be less effective depending on the players gaming experience. For example, early on in Fallout 3 you can enter a school building which has human legs hanging in the halls; this moment may flat out scare you at first, but how long will that fear really last? Now say you're playing a game like Dead Space and you see someone's arm laying there; after playing Fallout 3 will that really disturb you? It's basically the same thing you just saw in another game, and you have already gotten used to seeing it; so why should it scare you? Over time you're going to keep seeing more and more "freaky" moments in these sort of games, and each time you will slowly get used to it. After playing hundreds of games with disturbing moments, do you really expect a new horror game to scare you? Each of these games can only show so much, and a lot of the time they rely on tricks that have already been done over and over again. Once you are used to these tricks, they no longer scare you, and when they no longer scare you, the game is no longer a true "horror" game.

So, now we come to the real question. Is there anyway to fix this? Well, that's something I really can't answer. While any horror game will be scary for someone who has never played a horror game before, it will just be more of the same for long time fans. The only real way to bring that sense of fear back into things is by including the fear of loss like older Resident Evil games had, or by doing something the world has never seen before. Another way would be to use psychological aspects of a game rather than visual aspects. Games like Virtue's Last Reward aren't that freaky on the surface, but the game has some scares that will just flat out disturb you. If more games out there started doing the unexpected, and if they started using psychological scares, then maybe the horror genre would truly become horror once again; however that is easier said than done.

In the end, there's a lot of horror fans who are saddened by the lack of horror games in today's world, but is that really the game developer's fault? I mean, can we really blame them for not being able to scare us anymore? I think not.

LoZ Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages on sale May 30th - June 20th!

If you're a Nintendo fan or a fan of The Legend of Zelda, I've got some good news to share with you today! Now you may have already heard, but The Legend of Zelda Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons will be hitting the Nintendo 3DS eShop on the 30th of this month, and both games will be on sale for only $4.99 until June 20th. This is the first time in over 10 years that the Oracle games have seen the light of day, and they are known as some of the best games out there among Legend of Zelda fans.

Developed by Capcom, The Legend of Zelda Oracle of Ages and Seasons were two special games which were unlike anything Zelda fans had seen before. Released in 2001 for the Game Boy Color, both games were developed side by side, and could actually be connected with a code you received from completing the game. Either game could be played as the "first" game in the series (although many fans do consider Seasons to be first, which is also the non canon manga chose as the starting point), and once you finished it a could would be unlocked to use in the next game. Once you started up the next game using that code, some minor changes would be made to reflect your choices in the original, you would start the game with an extra heart, and you would also unlock the ability to fight the game's true final boss. Although each game does in fact share the same "true" ending, the games themselves are completely different.

Each game takes place in its own unique world, they each tell their own story, and each one has unique gameplay as well. Oracle of Seasons is the gameplay/exploration based game with an item that allows you to change the game world's season. For example, while during the summer the beach will be a warm place for you to visit, in the winter it will be completely frozen over which will allow you to cross to the other side. There are also some animal helpers to help you progress through the game, and each one will change up the gameplay. Thanks to them there is a lot of different gameplay styles for you to experience, and it helps keep the game fresh and exciting.

If you are the type of person who loves exploration, and loves different styles of gameplay, Oracle of Seasons would be the perfect place to start.

While Seasons is the gameplay side of things, Oracle of Ages is the complete opposite. Making full use of series dungeon standards, Ages is a puzzle based game that also takes place in a completely brand new world. The game features a wide range of challenging puzzles and dungeons for you to explore, it features a wide range of new, and unique, tools that you will have to make use of to solve these puzzles, and it also includes the ability to change time.

Much like the Dark World from Link to the Past, the future world in Ages is a dark and shadowy place where everything has changed. This world is 400 years in the future, and during that time the world has evolved into something new. This world is filled with even more challenges for Link to face, and is designed specifically to test your skills as a player in every way.

Although each game in the Oracle series is designed to focus on a different aspect of the series, and appeal to different groups of fans, both games are a part of a set, and are best when played together. If you want to get the full experience out of the series, you really should pick up both as soon as possible. From there it is up to you to decide which game you want to play first. Personally, my favorite is Seasons, and I plan on picking it up the moment it goes up for download!

Persona 3 - The Movie

For the past few days the world of gaming news has basically been about one thing; the Xbox One. Scam sites have opened up claiming they are sign ups to help test the Xbox One, rumors about how it will handle used games have been popping up left and right, minor details about some of the games we could expect are showing up, and we have learned that the Xbox One will apparently check to make sure you have an internet connection at least once each day. Really if you go to any gaming website right now, or even Xbox.com, this is what you'll be hearing about. So, instead of truly reporting on the Xbox One, I decided to switch gears for a moment.

Today I wanted to take a step back, and talk about something completely different. I want to talk about a movie for a game that was released on the PlayStation 2. Now I'm sure if you're a die hard fan of the series you already know about it, but if you've just played the games there is a chance that this will be new news to you. So, what game am I talking about? Well, none other than Persona 3!

After playing through the game recently, and after talking about it quite a bit with another fellow Game Room writer (Lugia), it got me thinking. We are always posting game reviews here on the blogs, or talking about gaming news, but its just flat out rare for us to ever discuss a video game that is becoming an anime, or to discuss movie versions of said games. Since not too long ago I just posted a Persona 4 Golden review, I figured the timing would be right to bring you guys up to speed on this as well.

If you don't already know, Persona 3 is a JRPG which was released on the PlayStation 2. It mixes visual novel life sim elements with dungeon crawling gameplay, and is one of the few RPGs out there that really pulled players into the game. It made it feel like you were a part of the world, and that you were truly living the game. Due to its gameplay, and story, Persona 3 became one of the most well known RPGs out there, and finally after all these years it is getting an anime movie; or rather, a few anime movies.

Check out the trailer for "Movie 1"

(Warning: Persona 3 is an M rated game, and the following trailer may contain content not suitable for all ages.)

Now currently not much is known about the films, but each one seems to be dedicated to different parts of the story. Persona 3 took place over a year, and with the first movie being called "Spring of Rebirth," it is pretty clear that it will at least cover Spring. Other than that, we do know that the main character's name has been changed as well. Originally the main character wasn't given an official name, but when the manga came out he was dubbed "Minato Arisato;" however it seems this will be changed. His new name will now be "Makoto Yuki."

Although details are still limited, every full moon the movie's official twitter is updated with details about the movie. Over the summer more information will be revealed, and in the fall the movie will finally hit theaters in Japan. While no US release date has been announced, it is pretty safe to assume that we will get it one day.

The "Highlights" of the Xbox ONE reveal conference

Hello there readers!

Yes I haven't really been that active as I should have been and i'm sorry readers >_< Work and other stuff has been keeping me really busy but I have something that you need to see. As all of you may be aware Xbox one has been revealed . . . . . . And has started one of the biggest flame wars I have seen in a while on the whole internet. What are my thoughts? Well I live in a very small village with a pretty bad internet so even if I did buy this console it wouldn't work and I really don't care that much about TV in general and the fact that I can't borrow games to my friends is a very bad thing so its a no buy for me obviously. But anyway here is a funny video that pretty much sums up the whole conference under two minutes:

By the way best quote ever "Xbox is about to become the next water cooler" Oh the irony.
(ATTENTION READERS: This video was obviously not made by me so give credit to the creator of this sum up: http://www.youtube.com/user/Darkbeatdk?feature=watch).

So yeah the new Xbox (I will not call it ONE its just the most egoistical name I have ever heard especially since it isn't the real first Xbox and this name also makes the Wii U name sound like a masterpiece) will be mostly about TV . . . . . . I'll just say this if Microsoft doesn't change the console now and make it ABOUT GAMING then . . . Well it will not survive even two years because even those so called "Hardcore" fans that will still buy this on day one will have to realise pretty soon afterwards how much the console is just not about gaming compared to the PS4 and Wii U. Well that is at least my two cents on the whole thing.

Yes I will still talk about Castlevania mirror of fate that one is coming readers so be a little more patient >_<

Well that is all from CJ today so have a great day readers!

Xbox One Announced

Just a few minutes ago the Xbox "720" event just ended, and some of our questions were answered. It turns out the new Xbox console will be called "Xbox One," and that's really all there is to report on. The entire show was dedicated to showing off the new Windows 8 like OS, and how you can have more than one app running at a time, and the rest of the press event was to show off all of its TV features. You can voice command the Xbox One to turn on different channels, you can check our your favorite shows, you can watch movies, and so on. Basically, every feature they showed off is an "updated" version of what the current Xbox 360 capable of. The event showed just how the Xbox One would work as a general media device in your living room, and that is about it.

Although 15 exclusives were announced (8 being new IPs), only two were teased, and no gameplay was actually shown off. We got to see a live action video for their new game about some girl with a strange power, we got to see some of Forza, and EA Sports teased some of their upcoming sports games as well. (Note: the next Maden is called "Maden 25" apparently.) Other than that not much else was shown off besides another teaser for the upcoming Call of Duty Ghost. The development team simply talked about how they can now create realistic models which show off cuts and scratches on the characters, and they also talked about how they wanted to develop a more personal story. That's all that was really said about the game, and the teaser was pretty short as well (and did not show off any actual gameplay).

A Halo live action TV series was also announced during the event, but the details are very limited. Steven Spielberg will be the one working on the show, but we don't even know what the story will cover, or what channel it will even be on. Even so that was the most interesting piece of news during the entire event.

As for the One itself, basically all of the rumors we've heard for the past year are true. It comes with the new version of Kinect, the Kinect has a 1080p camera and can track more movements (just as the rumors said), the console has a Blu-ray player (just like the rumors stated), it uses a cloud service (once again a feature brought up in the "leaked document"), and even the Xbox TV service turned out to be true. What wasn't even discussed; however, is what everyone was wanting to know. Do you really need an internet connection to use the console, and is it true that games are on bluray discs and only used to install games and then throw away? It seems Microsoft wanted to avoid talking about how games work in general, so we really have no idea if this part of the leaked document was true or not. Even so, with everything else being confirmed, things don't look too good....

Well until E3 that's all we really know about the Xbox One, so we will just have to wait until then.

BEYOND: Two Souls - Tribeca Film Festival "Short Film"

If you've been following BEYOND: Two Souls, I'm sure you have already heard. BEYOND was at the Tribeca Film Festival, and during the event a 30 minute "short film" was shown off. The short film is actually 30 minutes of in game gameplay of the "Homeless" scene, and it is now up on youtube for the rest of the world to see!

Now if you're interested in BEYOND, I would like to warn you that this is a small chunk of the game, so it does contain "spoilers." If you rather go into the game completely blind, you may want to stay away from the video. If you have no interest in BEYOND at all/don't plan on getting it, I recommend you check it out anyway! Although it is a game, this video does in fact make a nice short film, and it really is interesting to watch. So anyway, how about we get to the video?

WARNING: BEYOND IS RATED M FOR MATURE! THE FOLLOWING VIDEO CONTAINS CONTENT NOT SUITABLE FOR THOSE UNDER THE AGE OF 17! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

Special Thanks to Sony for uploading this to their official YouTube channel!

Dust: An Elysian Tail Review

Well, it has been a while since the last time I tried to review something. Mostly because I found nothing to review. But a few days ago, I managed to finally be able to play a game I've been wanting to play for months, called `Dust: An Elysian Tail,` for the XBL Arcade, and today I finally got the Nexus 7 I ordered two months ago, so... I figured - why not?

Dust: An Elysian Tail, or as I'm going to call it for the rest of this block of text, Dust, is an indie platformer game that came out at around late 2012, based on a movie called `Elysian Tail,` that has been in the works since... the beginning of the last decade or so, and as far as I know, has yet to come out.

I waited for months to play this game, and when I finally did...

Graphics:

The first thing to catch my eye when I played the game was the title screen, and how it was made. The entire title screen was gray, raining, a thunder-storm, and the game's logo crashing on the screen, in about two to three seconds before the title screen's options showed up. That title screen actually got me more interested about what I am going to see when playing this game.

When I did start playing this game... I have to say I was impressed and surprised at the same time. The entire graphics looks drawn. And I'm not talking about like Okami, where it is made of 3D models looking like an old Japanese paintings. I am talking about the fact that when you hold the picture still, it looks digitally drawn. Another thing is that I found pleasing was that every single character in the game, though not many, has a drawn animation, one or more, when talked to, to show between one or more emotions.

The last thing that comes to mind is the weather in this game. The weather is changing randomly every once in a while, between light, rainy, windy, or just cloudy. There are places with the weather built in and it will not change, but at quite a few places, it does. It does not affect much, true, but I found it to be a nice touch.

I give the graphics 10 out of 10. I did not find anything that I did not like about this game's graphics.

Sound:

Now, this is where I was truly shocked. For starters, the game's soundtrack is great, and it gets you in the mood of each and every level. The sound effects are great, and almost everything has a sound effect.
But the thing that shocked me was that every single conversation in this game is voiced. Every single one. Even the ones that aren't important, everything is voiced. And they all fit quite well! I very much enjoyed that fact, and not many games tend to do that.

Like with the graphics, I have no complaint with the sound. And like with the graphics, I give the game's sound a 10 out of 10.

Story:

As for the game's story... well...

We start off with an anthropomorphic blue fox wearing a big hat, as he stands alone in the woods, having no memory whatsoever regarding anything besides the fact that his name is 'Dust.' After about a second or so, a talking blade floats over to him, telling him that its name is Arah, and Dust summoned it.

Right after the blade appears, a tiny, flying, weird orange creature, later stated to be named a 'Nimbat,' flies over after the blade, and says that her name is Fidget, she's the blade's guardian, and that she'll follow him until he's done with Arah. Arah suggests that they go to the village east of there, and so they do. As they move on, Dust realizes that he has been there before, and so, their journey begins.

The story, although well-written and witty, making me laugh quite a few times along the game, can feel clichéd at times. It plays the amnesia card, something that has been done quite a few times, and at times can seem like a déjà-vu. The ending can be a bit surprising, though, and the characters are lovable. Well, most of them, at least. It even has a few notes to find that contain a bit of information which is not directly connected to the story, which was a nice addition.

The story is not perfect, and there was a part near the end where I literally had goose bumps because of how clichéd it was. But it is still interesting, surprising at some parts, funny at ones and sad on others. It even contains a nice explanation of Dust's name.

I think the story deserves 8 out of 10.

Gameplay:

Well, besides the regular two-dimensional platformer gameplay where you go left, right, jump, and crouch, it has a hackn'slash gameplay elements, where you beat up monsters. As you beat up monsters, you get coins, materials, blueprints, and even items you can use on your character for later use. More often than not, though, the game just felt like a re-press of the same buttons again and again, as you find a combo you like using and just keep doing it again and again to beat up monsters. On the same page, most bosses in the game do not really feel like bosses, but more like a regular enemy with a lot more life. That's practically all you can expect from most bosses.

As you beat monsters, you also get one stone for each level, to raise one of four stats: Attack, Defense, HP, and Fidget. Attack is how much damage you deal with each blow, Defense is how much will go down from the damage the monsters will deal each turn, HP is how much hit points you have, and Fidget is how much the Fidget attacks deal. The Fidget attacks are long-ranged attacks that your Nimbat friend uses at the press of a button.

The materials you get you can sell to the shop to add it to the list - every material that was sold in shops will be restocked after that. That means that if you get one material of some sort and sell it, you will later be able to buy more of the same material, which helps a lot on some of the side-quests.

The game also has side-quests. They mostly require you to find a few of a certain material, but they also include things like getting a one-thousand hit combo, or finding someone, for example.

Other than that, there is the treasure hunt. Every map has treasure to find, along with some trapped friends from other games you might know. Every box needs a key, though, which you can either try to find, or you can buy from the shop, up to six. Most you cannot reach until later on, though, so in order to 100% this game, you will have to come back later for it.

The gameplay is fun, but there are a few problems:

First of all, as you start the game, healing items from the shop are too expensive, and the only other way to heal is to stand on a save point, which will heal you up to half of your life in Normal Mode. I found myself struggling with my health more than once because of it.

The second is that the game uses cheap tricks to hide three or so treasure boxes. It is quite hard to figure out, unless you are very lucky, or you already know how to get there.

The third is that the game is really short. I found every single item in this game, beat all side-quests, and beat the game itself with 112%, according to the game, in about thirteen hours. As to replayability, there isn't much of a point after beating it and finding everything besides playing it on a higher difficulty.
Overall, the game is fun and addictive while it lasts, and my brother and I both enjoyed the game. It was well-worth the money we spent on it. I think it deserves 9 out of 10.

Overall:

It is a fun game, an interesting, though clichéd, plot, the graphics are nice to the eye, and the music is great. The game did not get that much attention, as far as I have seen, and I hope that the fact that the game is coming to Steam will change that, because I believe it deserves it more than yet another CoD installment. You should not buy this game, though, if you do not like platformer of any kind. I really can't think of another reason not to.

I give this game an overall score of 9 out of 10.

Now, please enjoy an oversized picture of Fidget.

BlazBlue Anime - Now in the Works!

If you're a BlazBlue fan, I'm sure you've already heard, but if you haven't..... BlazBlue is FINALLY getting its own anime! Yep, that's right! It is finally happening!

For anyone who does not know, BlazBlue is a fighting game by Arc System Works which features fast and easy to pick up gameplay, and has an extremely deep (and long) story mode to go along with it. The game has become well known for its cast of characters, crazy storyline, as well as its comedy which can be found throughout the game. Since the original release, BlazBlue has broken out into a few manga side stories, and it has had a few novels as well, where this anime was actually announced.

On the slip that came with their latest release, Arc System Works announced that their BlazBlue Calamity Trigger anime has been green-lit. While no other information was provided (such as an expected release), I'm sure we will be hearing more from them in the future. With Chrono Phantasma (BB3) coming out within the next year or so, I'm sure we can expect to hear quite a lot of BlazBlue news as the months go by.

Persona 4 Golden - Review

Back in 2008 an RPG called Persona 4 hit the Western shores. It was the long awaited sequel to the well known PS2 RPG Persona 3, and before we knew it, it became a hit. Fans fell in love with the character's, the gameplay, the school life "life sim" aspects, as well as it's story. Although the game before it was just as popular among fans, Persona 4 took things to a whole new level. Soon there was a manga series to go along with it, a full anime, and even a direct sequel fighting game produced by Arc System Works. To put it simple, Persona 4 was a game that fans liked a lot, and because of that it evolved past just being a game. Well, things didn't stop there.

In 2012 a brand new version of Persona 4 hit the shelves for the PlayStation Vita called "Persona 4 Golden." Just what is Persona 4 Golden? Is it worth owning if you already had Persona 4? What about the new comers, is this a good place to start? Well, how about we find out?

The Golden Story:

Persona 4 Golden opens up with "you" being face to face with a strange man in what seems to be a limo. You are in the velvet room, a room that exists between reality and dreams, and you have been called there for a very special reason. Everything that happens in that room is tied to your fate, and it seems your life is about to change. The strange man sitting at the end of the limo is named Igor and he tells you just that. While your future is unclear, he gives you a warning, and asks for your name. At this point you are asked to name your character whatever you want, but the main character's "canon" name is Narukami Yu (Yu Narukami by English standards).

After telling Igor his name, Yu (or whatever you named yourself) then comes to reality. He is traveling on a train to a small town called Inaba, where he will be spending the next year of his life. It turns out his parents had been transferred overseas due to their job, and they have decided to send him to live with his uncle Ryotaro and his cousin Nanako Dojima.

Once Yu arrives in Inaba, he is greeted by his uncle and cousin, and taken back to his new home. As he sits down with his family for dinner, his uncle gets a call to go into work, and apparently like always, Nanoko is left home alone. It turns out Dojima is a police detective, and because of that he is rarely home alone. Poor little Nanoko is left to fend for herself most of the time, and today is no different. After finishing dinner, Nanoko helps Yu get settled in to his room, and the very next day they both go off to school.

While at school Yu slowly begins to make some new friends. Yosuke, just like Yu, is a big city boy who was forced to move to the small town after his parents became the manager of the local super store Junes, Chie is a tomboy kung fu nut, and Yukiko is the shy girl everyone seems to hit on. At first this small group doesn't seem like much, but not too long after they all met, things began to change.

During his first day of school, a dead body was found hanging from a TV antenna close to the school, and the strange rumors of a "Midnight Channel" began to circulate. It turns out, if you look at the TV at midnight on a raining night while it is turned off, your "true love" will appear; however only the latter part turned out to be a rumor. As the police investigated the murder, Yu and his friends decide to check out the midnight channel rumor to see if it was true, and sure enough, it was. A young girl showed up on the screen, but it wasn't Yu's true love. As he reaches out to touch the screen, Yu is shocked to find his arm going into the TV! Although he at first tries to climb all the way in, he gets stuck in the TV's frame, and decides to pull himself out and tell his friends about what happened the next day.

The next day at school Yu discusses the Midnight Channel with Yosuke and Chie, only to find out that they had all seen the very same girl. Although everyone is confused as to what the midnight channel is, Yu decides to tell the others about what happened to him; how he went inside the TV. At this point everyone thinks that he was just dreaming, and they decide to pretend he never even brought it up. Although within the next few hours, all of them would come to learn the truth, and their lives would be changed forever.

After going to Junes to look at a brand new TV, Yu finds himself falling into a big screen TV, with his friends close behind. They all ends up in a strange world, wonder into a strange blood stained room, and then on their way out they find themselves face to face with a strange bear like thing named Teddie. According to Teddie someone had been throwing people into his world, making the once quite land into a world filled with noise. Since Teddie didn't want to be bothered, he opened a portal back to the "real world," and sends everyone back home.

Deciding to put everything that had just happened behind them, Yu and co decide to return home, and pretend it never happened... Although it seems fate has other plans for them. It turns out the girl on the Midnight Channel was a friend of Yosuke's, and the very next day she is found dead hanging just like the first victim. Yosuke takes the news of her death hard, and that is when he decides to drag Yu back into that strange world with him. If the Midnight Channel and that world are connected to her death, Yosuke was determined to get to the bottom of it.

After talking to Teddie about what happened, Yu and Yosuke follow him to a strange dream like version of Inaba. There they find a strange door to the liquor store the girl's family ran, and coming out of it are strange creatures Teddie calls "Shadows." Upon seeing these shadows, a voice rings through Yu's head that tells him "I am thou," and a card magically appears in his hand. "Per, so, na!" Upon yelling the words, a warrior appears above Yu's head, and with its sword it slices the shadow's to bits. Yu had gained the power of "Persona," the ability to summon your inner self.

Now with the power to use persona, Yu dives into the TVs to save the poor lost souls who show up on the Midnight Channel. As the months go by, more people become kidnapped, Yu and Co dive into the TV world, they use their personas to fight the shadows, and help each victim face their inner self. Upon facing their inner self, that victim also gains the power of persona, and joins Yu in the search for the truth. Just who is behind these murders? Why are they throwing people into the TV? Just what is Teddie? What are shadows? Why does the Midnight Channel show the victim even before they enter the TV? Why is there even a world inside the TV? How come Yu gained his power before facing his shadow? Is he different? The town of Inaba is filled with mysteries, and it is your job to get to the bottom of it. All while still being a high school student!

School Life:

The gameplay of Persona 4 Golden is split up into two main sections, and because of that I'll be discussing each aspect of the gameplay separately. The first part of Persona 4 is your everyday school life. This section of the game plays a lot like a visual novel mixed with a dating sim or life sim. Since the game takes place over a year, you actually do go through most of the days. Now sure, at times there will be small time skips (such as during midterms and finals), but for the most part you really do spend a full year in Inaba.

Normally your schedule will be as followed. Monday through Saturday Yu will wake up and go to school. On the way to school you may see a cutscene with him walking there, and along the way Yu may talk to one of his friends, or overhear something from other students. After that is class time. Although most of the time you won't even see the class, sometimes an important topic will be brought up, or you'll be asked a question in class. If you answer one of these questions correctly, your stats will increase. Once class is over, you then enter the "after school" part of the day, and the entire world is open to you!

After school you can basically do anything, and there is a LOT to pick from. Whatever action you do will advance the time to evening, and that is why it is important to plan out what you want to do for that day. You can hang out with one of your friends, go to the movies, study in the library, work at one of the part time jobs, go to one of the school clubs you may have joined, and so on. There are also some activities you can do which will not advance time such as doing side quests, talking to NPCs, buying stuff at the store, buying books, etc. Either way, there are a lot of things you can do after school, and they all help you in different ways; although Social Links are the main parts of it.

In Persona 4 you can become friends with your classmates, or other people around town, and this comes in the form of social links. By hanging out with people after school, you will build up your friendship, and that will in return help you in battle. While becoming closer with your party members may unlock special skills and abilities for them, hanging out with people in general will help you with your personas. By having stronger social links you can create stronger personas, and that really helps out in the long run.

As I said before, doing well in class will increase your stats, but that isn't the only way to increase them. By eating food, doing jobs, and reading books, you can increase your other "social skills" as well. These social skills will allow you to do different things, based on what level you have them at. For example if you're brave enough, you could tell your teacher off in class, or if you're a very understanding person you can help tutor a student. Getting your skills up gives you more options to say to your friends to help build your friendship faster as well, so its always a good idea to get them as high as possible.

After you have did your one "main action" of the day, the game will then advance to the evening section of the day. Now in the evening you'll sometimes start out by watching a cutscene (usually you'll be eating with Nanoko or watching the news to find out about the latest events and the weather), but after the scene is over you can do whatever you want. Although in the original Persona 4 you were limited on what you can do, in Golden you can actually go out into the city at night.

At night Inaba is a slightly different place. The store becomes a bar (which you can also work at), you can visit the shrine to make a wish and become closer to people faster, you can sometimes meet up with friends who'll discuss the latest events in the story (also it'll make them closer to you), you can go night fishing, you can catch bugs at night, there are quite a few night jobs you can take (such as working at the hospital), or you could always return home and do some things there. At your house you can make models, make box lunches to eat with friends the next day, you can do other forms of part time work from home, you can read books (which will increase stats or give you new abilities), or you can even study for school. You really have quite a lot of options at night, but even so a lot of the cities areas are limited. While in the day you can travel allover, at night you are stuck mainly at the shopping district.

Although for the most part you'll have complete control over what you do, there are special events that happen during the year that you must attend to. You'll go on school trips (which are normally quite funny), go on vacations with friends, go to special events, hang out on holidays, or even be forced to take exams at school. These sections of the game give you little to no control, and are completely story based. Still they help break up the daily grind, they add in comedy, and help pull you into this world even more.

As you manage your daily live and investigate the murders, you can also preform one other major action which leads us to the second main part of the game. By going to Junes during the day, you can enter the TV world, and begin the RPG aspect of Persona 4 Golden.

The TV World and Personas:

While in the TV World, the game turns into a dungeon crawler. You will form a party of 4 characters, pick an area to go into, and begin exploring. Each area is simply just hallways and doors, but they do have their own themes, and enemies to encounter. Enemies will show up on the map as black shadows, and by hitting them with your sword first you can gain the upper hand in battle.

While in battle you'll have the choice to either directly control your other party members, or let the computer take care of it, and you will also have a verity of options to help plan out your attacks. Although you can simply hit "attack" to bash an enemy with your weapon (Yu's is a sword), this isn't always the best option. The real main aspect of battles is the personas themselves, and it is up to you to figure out how to use them best. Each persona has their own abilities and stats, and Yu has the ability to switch between personas during battle. This is something you'll want to do quite often, and for very good reason. The entire goal while fighting in this game is to actually knock every single enemy over so you can pull off an "All Out Attack."

Every enemy in the game has a weakness, and by exploiting that weakness you will knock them over, and gain an extra turn. For example, say you're fighting against three enemies who are weak to electric type attacks. Well, Yu's default persona is electric type, and he has an electric attack called "Zio." By using Zio you'll be able to knock over an enemy, gain another turn, use Zio to knock over the second enemy, gain another turn, then use it gain for a final time to knock the last one down. Once this happens you can press the X button to pull off the All Out Attack, and flat out destroy everyone. This is the basics of the battle system, and to fully use it you will have to switch around your personas. Still, this is only the half of it.

The personas themselves are a very complex system, and it takes some time to learn. Although you can randomly get more personas at the end of each battle, the main way to get them is by going into the velvet room (which you can access from both the real world and tv world), and fusing your personas together. By fusing two or more personas, you can create a completely brand new persona that will receive skills from the two you used to make it, as well as level up based on your social link bonuses. These personas are stronger than what you would normally find, and by fusing you can create personas with the skills and attacks you want them to have. You can also get skill cards to use on them by fighting enemies, but skill cards are rare, and its even rarer to get the one that you actually need/want.

Leveling up in Persona 4 Golden is the final main feature of the game's RPG elements, and it is also a system which is a little bit different from most RPGs. As you fight and kill enemies, your character (Yu) will level up, but so will the persona he has equip at the time. While leveling up Yu will increase his HP, and SP (which personas spend when they use their special attacks), it also allows Yu to hold more personas at one time. Other than that no other stats increase on Yu (or the other characters), and the only way to make him stronger is buy buying better armor or weapons. The personas on the other hand, their stats DO increase. Each time a persona levels up, they become stronger, their attacks do more damage, and they learn new skills to use. Leveling your personas becomes a very important part of the game, and will be how you'll get stronger.

While actually exploring the areas, running through halls, and opening doors is pretty basic (and can become repetitive), the battles and personas help keep the RPG action fun, and it never really drags on for too long. Each area is actually pretty short, only taking an hour or so to complete. If you're the type of person who hates dungeon crawling, you really don't have to worry in this one. By rushing through it, these areas only take up about 10% of the game, but if you actually like that sort of thing, you can easily spend as much time in them as you want.

The Music and Style of P4G:

Once in awhile in my reviews I'll bring up something outside of the main features. This "something" is normally a feature or aspect that really just stood out in the game, and helped give it it's charm. For Persona 4 Golden, that would have to be its music, and overall style.

Persona 4 Golden uses a style that really makes the game pop. It is filled with bright anime styled graphics, detailed anime mugshots, it is filled with Japanese themes, and the music really stands out. The first time you go into a battle and hear "Reach Out to The Truth," you will be shocked! Every song in the soundtrack just fits the game' so well, and it all really helps set the mood. The game features anime styled comedy to give you a few good laughs, and there's a wide verity of extras added exclusively to Golden. You can watch live persona concerts, watch Japanese trailers for the games, listen to the game's soundtrack, view art galleries, and even play a bonus trivia game. The extras are a really nice addition, and I often found myself going back to them just to rewatch a cutscene, or listen to one of the game's tracks.

If you're a fan of modern day anime, Persona 4 Golden will really stand out to you. Like I said before, everything about the game just "pops," and it is filled with memorable moments.

The Good and the Bad:

Persona 4 Golden isn't a game that everyone will like, but if you own a Vita and like JRPGs or even Visual Novels, it is a MUST have! The game's story is great, you will fall in love with the characters, the combat is fast and fun, fusing personas can become addicting, the music is great, and you will just be flat out hooked from start to finish. Really the game doesn't have any bad points, and is one of them few games I can review and say it is truly perfect for what it is. The only real issue with the game is the fact that its a dungeon crawler with hallway after hallway to explore, but then again a lot of people out there love that. On top of all of that, Persona 4 Golden was designed in a way so that EVERYONE could enjoy it, and that comes with a wide verity of difficulty modes. While the easiest mode lets you retry battles you die (your characters are revived with full health while the enemy retains the damage they received), the hardest mode is there to really push you and give you a challenge.

If you have a Vita, and you like this sort of game, this is one you just CANNOT pass up! It has quite a lot of features the original PS2 version didn't have, and it even has a longer story mode featuring new areas and story arcs not originally seen. Even if you played the game before, you really have nothing to lose by getting Golden. Even when you finish the game it makes you want to come back for more, so you might as well come back to Golden. It really is, well, golden!

Persona 4 Golden for the PlayStation Vita gets a solid 10/10.

Pokemon X and Y - Kalos Region!

Well if you haven't already heard, Nintendo has finally announced the newest region in the Pokemon universe; the Kalos region! Although not much is currently known about the region itself, Nintendo has released a map of it, and stated that it will have "three unique areas" (with the Pokemon being spread out across them). Just take a look at this!

Although we don't know too much about it, this map alone shows you a lot of what you can expect. There's quite a few towns that can be seen, there appears to be a large mountain in the north eastern corner, and there also seems to be quite a few rivers running throughout the region as well. On top of that, Nintendo has announced that the capital city is "Lumiose City," and it has a large tower that's a lot like the Eiffel tower. As you may or may not know, every Pokemon game is based on a city or region from the real world, so maybe this one is based on France?

Along with the news of the new region, a few new Pokemon were announced as well, and we also have gained word on some of the new features we can expect. Here's just a small list of some of the known features.

  • You can ride on some Pokemon to travel around towns, fields, and other areas.
  • Roller Skates are featured (as seen in the original trailer).
  • You can customize your characters (including skin color).
  • The world will in fact be in full 3D.
  • Battles are more detailed with 3D Pokemon models.
  • New types MAY have been added (rumored Light and Fairy).
  • There is at least one new eevee evolution for the possible rumored "Fairy" type (check out GlacialLeaf's post for more info).
  • Mewtwo now has two new forms.
  • The game will be released world wide on the same day.
And finally to end this post, we also have a new trailer to show off!

Well that's all for now guys! Over the next few months I'm sure we'll hear more and more about Pokemon X and Y, but currently this is all the information we really have. The game is shaping up to be quite an upgrade, so it is sure to be a must have for Pokemon fans world wide.

Looking back, what was the first game you played on each console?

Just sitting here looking around at some of my games, I started to think; "what was the first game I even played on these things?" You know, when you first get a new game console and pop in that first game, it leaves a lasting impression on you. It gives you an idea of what you can expect from that console, and it is also the game you'll most likely spend quite awhile playing. It'll be the game you'll show to your friends when showing off your new piece of hardware, and it'll also be the game you'll gain a lot of memories for. In some cases, that game may have also been the deciding factor in buying that console in the first place. So, I want all of you right now to think back on the first game you played on each console you own, and think back on how it effected you. Did it make you love that console? Or maybe it actually made you get your money back! Whatever the case is, just think back, and if you feel like it, leave your memories here in the comments!

As for me, well, thinking back really isn't that easy for me... But I'll try to recall as much as I can.

NES:

The first NES game I played was Super Mario Bros. My cousins had just given me their NES after buying a new SNES, and from the get go I was hooked... Sort of. Really I was too young to make it very far at the time, but that didn't keep me from trying. The game was like a whole new world to me, and I couldn't wait to see what it had to offer, but I kept dying before I could even make it out of world one. Even so I kept practicing at it, and sooner I was getting farther and farther. Really though, this wasn't the only game I had memories of that night, mainly because my cousin gave me all 20 something of his games to go with that NES. Mario just happened to be the first one I put in! (And fought with! Darn blue and pink screens....)

SNES:

I actually didn't play a SNES until a year or so that it was out, but when I did, I was blown away. Super Mario World was the first game I played, and everything about it amazed me. Mario had a cape, Yoshi was there, the graphics looked amazing, the world were huge with a lot of places to explore, and the game soon became the reason I looked forward to visiting my cousins. That is until I got one myself as well as Super Mario World + Mario All Stars!

N64:

Although I had played one from time to time in stores (small store demos of Mario 64), I really didn't get to play a N64 until I went to my cousin's house (just like with the SNES). That was where I got my first shot at really playing Mario 64, and I was amazed. I'm sure everyone else who saw them 3D graphics back then felt the same way, and for the first time I really felt like I "was" Mario! While I did get Mario 64 for my birthday that year, I got a N64 a few weeks early along with Rampage (I loved Rampage on the NES) after returning from vacation. I have a lot of memories playing that game that night, and it ended up being one of my all time favorites. Then I got Mario 64 myself and spent the next few years of my life playing it almost everyday!

PlayStation:

First PlayStation game.... Well at the time my uncle was still living with my grandparents, and his girlfriend bought him a PlayStation 1 right before they got married. Since I was over at my grandparent's house a lot, I actually got to play the thing a lot as well! The first game I ever tried out was Crash 1, and I remember really liking it. Sure it was no Mario, but it put its own spin on the platforming genre, and before I knew it I was playing every Crash game that came out. I guess it was the game that really got me into playing the PlayStation, but the main reason I wanted one was for that Rugrats game. I was still pretty young at the time, and Rugrats was my favorite TV show, so when I got a PSOne for Christmas, I was extremely excited. Rugrats, Crash, Spyro, Megaman X, Megaman Legends, and so on. I loved that PlayStation; too bad it got destroyed a few christmases later when hot chocolate fell on it.... It wasn't until 2 years later that I got it replaced.

DreamCast:

Skipping around to the order I actually owned the consoles.... The DC came next. I had always wanted a DC since I was a huge Sonic fan, and I used to wonder what the 3D games were like all the time. I had somewhat of an idea from seeing demos at Walmart, but I never really got to play much of one. When I got that DC and put in Sonic Adventure, just.... Wow. It was everything I could have hopped for plus more! Still to this day, it is one of the few games I've bought a few different versions of, and 100%ed every time. The game made owning a DC worth it, and it is why I still turn it on from time to time.

GameCube:

Mario 64 was my favorite game at that point, and I just couldn't wait to finally play Sunshine. I used to play the demo at Walmart every chance I got, but it really wasn't that long. Now by this time the GCN had been out for a year, so I did play a Batman game on it once before, as well as the demo for Luigi's Mansion, but my first real experience with it was playing Sunshine on Christmas day. I can still picture myself sitting on my bed in my room, playing with a WIRELESS controller, and I still remember how shocked I was that Mario went to jail! The game just had me hooked from the start, and I found myself playing it non stop over the next few days. I also had gotten  Animal Crossing as well, so whenever I wasn't playing Mario, I was living my virtual life! Whenever I got bored with that, I simply jumped over to my Sonic collection and relived some old childhood memories.

PlayStation 2:

The first time I played a PS2 it was actually the Ico demo, but I did play a Casper game my cousins had as well... Really, my experience with the PS2 was quite limited up until I bought one myself for the Megaman X games. Originally that was the only reason I wanted to own a PS2, and it made it worth owning! I love the X series, and I still love playing X8, but after awhile I did start to find MANY other series that I enjoyed. Still putting in Megaman X, and finally playing it after waiting all them years just felt so great.

Nintendo Wii:

I'll admit it, I was one of them Nintendo fanboys freaking out over the release of the Wii, but then again, who wasn't? It showed so much promise with its motion controls, and if you didn't go for that sort of thing, the PS3 and 360 were coming out as well! Still the Wii just really stood out, and after seeing that video from E3, I was freaking out! The first time I actually played a Wii was at the mall, which I went to just to play the Wii! They had Excite Truck set up, and I remember playing it with one of my friends who just happened to show up as well. It was fun, and that was why I decided to ask for the game for Christmas. That Christmas I was given a Wii as a gift, and after waiting an hour and a half for the update to finish (I had bad internet back then), I was on my way to playing Wii Sports. Overall I really did like the Wii as well as its motion controls, but as you know, it was something we all got used to pretty fast.... The few games I had made the Wii worth owning, but it wasn't till much later that the good games actually started to come out.

Xbox 360:

When I bought an Xbox 360, I bought Sonic 06 along with it. Now I had heard how bad the game was, but I really didn't care. I had waited for a Sonic Adventure 3 for many years at that point, and I wasn't going to let SEGA's mess up stop me from playing it. I knew about what happened with the game, how SEGA forced Sonic Team to release an unfinished game (with more than half the content cut), and I understood why the game was going to have these problems; however I decided to enjoy it as much as possible.... And I did. Really the game isn't as bad as people make it out to be. There are some simple glitches that can be easily avoided (such as the loop in stage one, all you have to do is run on the inside and not the outside of it), and the loading times really weren't that big of an issue for me either. Overall I did like a few of Sonic's stages, I liked Shadow's, and I had a blast with Silver! Yeah the game is filled with problems, and Sonic's story was the worst part of it, but I didn't let it stop me.

Sure not too long after I did get other games for the 360 as well, in fact I bought Lost Planet almost right away and ended up loving it! So yeah, Sonic 06 wasn't the game that showed me what the 360 was really about, it was the 100 + games I bought after it lol

PlayStation 3:

I bought the PS3 for one reason, and one reason only; VALKYRIA CHRONICLES! When it was announced, and I saw that the Xbox logo wasn't at the end of the Japanese trailer, I was sad. I didn't have a PS3, and I knew I wouldn't be getting one anytime soon; although I wanted one. Still that didn't stop me from watching parts of the game on youtube, and it sure didn't stop me from watching the anime as it aired in Japan! I quickly fell in love with the characters, and the story, so that's when I made up my mind. I was going to save up for a PS3 and buy VC as soon as possible, and that is what I did! The game didn't let me down at all, in fact it was a lot better than I expected. It is the game that turned me into a PS3 gamer, and before I knew it I was buying all of the PS3 exclusives I could get my hands on! Man, just talking about VC makes me want to play it right now.....

Wii U:

And now we are back to Nintendo. The first game I played on the Wii U was the Rayman Legend's demo in the store, but that wasn't much to go on. I already knew what to expect from the Wii U, and from a sequel to Rayman Origins, so it didn't really impress me; even so I still wanted one. The first game I actually played with my Wii U was Nintendo Land, and once again It really didn't impress me that much. Sure I really liked the game, but it wasn't anything that new. It was a game running on a system basically on par with the 360 and PS3, and I had been using the touch screen since 2004 on the DS. I guess, the Wii U was the least impressive console for me; especially since I had to return two of them that got bricked by the day one update.... Still once I got a working one, and popped in Ninja Gaiden 3 Razor's Edge (one of the main reasons I wanted it), I soon found myself enjoying the tablet screen! Above all, I guess that's what stood out to me the most!

Game Boy Color:

Now onto handhelds! The first game I played on my GBC was Pokemon Red, and I didn't know how to save! Man I was so excited to finally be playing a Pokemon game (was a fan of the anime), and I couldn't wait to set out on my adventure, but at the time I didn't realize it was an adventure meant to be non stop. I figured you just turned the game on, played as far as you could, then turned it off, but then I discovered that magical save button! Sure the game was hard to see unless you were in sunlight, but I loved that game, and it was my first full experience with a standard RPG. You know, I think playing Pokemon might have helped me more with reading than the Reading class in grade school did!

Game Boy Advance:

While I did play a few of my cousin's GBA games (a Tony Hawk game?) I really didn't play much of one till I got one for Christmas. The first game I played was a Lego Bionicle game (which picked up right after that free adventure PC game), and I remember being amazed at how nice everything looked! The 2D sprites were nice and sharp, there was a lot of detail put into the games, and things were no longer made out of blocks! The GBA soon became one of my favorite handhelds of all time (still to this day), and before I knew it I was playing a LOT of amazing games. Man when Pokemon finally came around, I didn't know what to think! That game just shocked me so much lol (Later on I got an SP which shocked me because it had a built in light! Made playing games at night a lot easier!)

Nintendo DS:

The Nintendo DS was, well, the N64 allover again! When I was young I used to always wish I could play Mario 64 in the car, but I knew the Game Boy couldn't do anything like that. In my mind, tech wouldn't become that advance, and it was just an impossible dream. Then came along the Nintendo DS! While the touch screen, and online play really got me excited, what excited me the most was that it could play 3D games! That Christmas I was given it as a gift was one of the best in memory, and I am still happy to know that I can put Mario 64 in at anytime and play it on the go!

PlayStation Portable:

Just like with the PS2, the main reason I got this was for Maverick Hunter X. Megaman X1 is one of my favorite games of all time, and when I heard they were remaking it on the PSP in the X8 style I was completely shocked! Sadly I wasn't able to get a PSP until a few years later, but it was worth the wait. The first game I actually played for it was Megaman Powered Up (since Walmart was sold out of MHX), but that was still such a fun game! Although originally my plan was to get it just for them two games, I soon found myself getting into many other series, and overall I am glad I got a PSP.

Nintendo 3DS:

The main reason I got a 3DS was for the games that were announced. Megaman Legends 3 (FINALLY.... not coming out.....), Kingdom Hearts 3D, Paper Mario "3," and so on. I knew what to expect from it (it was basically a handheld GameCube), and I wasn't expecting to be shocked by it. Overall I wasn't, but when I popped in Pilot Wings I was amazed! "The 3D actually works!?" About sums up how I felt. I mean I knew it worked, but I didn't know it was that good! Really I love my 3DS, as well as the games for it, but I guess by this point in time I'm really not as shocked by video games. I mean look how far we've come, so it is only natural things would keep on advancing!

PlayStation Vita:

I'll flat out say it, I wasn't shocked by the Vita either since I knew what to expect from it, but I was shocked at how many nice features the thing had. My first game I actually played was Gravity Rush, and it was one of them games that really made full use of what the Vita had to offer. I like how the screen acted as a window to the world, and could be moved around as such, I liked the multitouch touch screen, and I loved all of the apps and online features as well. Personally the Vita is one of my favorite consoles (not just handhelds) of all time, and it is actually the first thing I'm going to pick up as soon as I finish typing this blog.

So, overall I have a LOT of gaming memories, but I guess getting the consoles themselves always will be what stood out to me at most. I'd be shocked at the new features each console had to offer, and I remember always looking forward to them new games that would come out sooner or later. That part hasn't changed for me, and I'm sure it never will! I'm still looking forward to the future PS4 and "720" games more than the systems themselves!

Picked up Persona 4 Golden the other day!

Well, the world of gaming news has been sort of dead lately. There's been talk of free to play games on the next gen consoles, some companies continue to praise the features of the PlayStation 3, and another 720 rumor popped up stating that it will NOT require an online connection. Really, nothing major has been announced lately, and because of that posting has been slow; however I do have some news to share!

The other day I finally got a copy of Persona 4 Golden and I have been hooked! This is the first Persona game I have ever played, and I'm actually liking it a lot more than I thought I would. Now currently I'm only about 30 hours in (around the halfway point), so I can't review it or anything, but that is my plan! It's just one of them Vita games that Vita owners should pick up, and it is a game I just really want to review, personally. Even so, like always, I don't want to review it until I've either 100%ed it, or came close. It's going to take about two playthroughs, but I'm willing to do it.

Well anyway, stay tuned for the Persona 4 Golden review, and don't forget to check out our newly opened forums as well!
