Blog Update - 12/31/2019

It's the last post of the decade! Hard to believe so much time has gone by, right? It's been almost nine long years since Netto's Game Room first opened, and a lot has changed since that day. Honestly a part of me never expected this to continue on for so long! I'm really thankful to everyone who has given me their support over the years, and to you readers who help me keep this going. If it wasn't for you guys I wouldn't be here now.

Anyway to send Netto's Game Room off into the new year, I've been busy updating things behind the scenes. I have a lot planned for this blog next year, and some of the new features you are seeing go live today are just a small part of that. I'm going to do everything I can to improve this blog for the better, and today will be another step towards that future. So please bear with me as things are updated, and hopefully we'll get most things running smoothly by tomorrow. That being said, I wanted to discuss the major new addition which you should be seeing now.

We have migrated to Disqus!

Yep this has been a long time coming. This blog and it's comment section has had a pretty rough history honestly. When NGR first opened we used the built in Google comments, but it became pretty obvious that they weren't perfect. So we opted to update to Google + instead, and that too shot us in the foot. While there was a time where everything Google related (including YouTube) was running off of Google +, no one actually used it. It was a cluttered mess, and everyone wanted it gone. Well we got our wish, but sadly those of us who did use it lost a lot in the process. Everything this blog used Google + for got deleted, and that includes every single comment left roughly between the end of 2013 up until the first part of 2019. Yeah, basically everything. So with Google + gone we were forced to return to the old Google comments, but again those were less than ideal. (Not to mention they liked to crash mobile browsers.) Those days are now thankfully behind us.

For those of you who do not know, Disqus is a service that is pretty popular these days. It allows you to install comment sections on your web pages and blogs, and it lets members of Disqus to come together as a whole community. By logging in with your existing social media or Disqus accounts you can comment on and join discussions across multiple websites, and everything is kept in one easy to access place over at their website. It's a nice system, and one I've personally used across multiple sites in the past. It's a lot easier than having to create multiple accounts for every web page and blogs I come across, and helps me keep track of my past conversations. It's just helped me a lot in the past, and I'm happy to finally be able to add it to NGR as well.

That being said, the new comment section should now be live for both desktop and mobile users. I'll continue tweaking the settings, but for the time being everything should be up and running.

As for our other new features... I'm going to keep quiet for now. Again, there are some behind the scenes updates happening, and in a way this news update serves as a test for some of them. So fingers crossed, and thanks for taking the time to read this! Look forward to seeing you all again next year.
