Mighty No. 9 - Inafune's spiritual successor to Mega Man!

A few years ago Keiji Inafune left Capcom to form his own company called "Comcept." Ever since that day, fans have been wondering just what the future would have in store for our old friend Mega Man. Well, it has been quite some time since the cancellation of Mega Man Universe, as well as Mega Man Legends 3, and we have still yet to see a new title (outside of ports and iOS games that is). Well, for all of you Mega Man fans there is some hope! Kenji Inafune has launched a new project on Kick Starter; however this is no ordinary project.

Introducing "Mighty No.9!" The spiritual successor to Mega Man!

Mighty No. 9 is a classic 2D action adventure game, created in the style of the long running Mega Man franchise. The story begins when 8 of the "Mighty No" robots go crazy and branch out across the world. After taking over different areas across the globe, Mighty No 9 "Beck," with the help of his partner "Call," is sent in to stop them once and for all. Although not much else is known about the story at this time, long time Mega Man fans will notice the similarities right away. While the story on its own may remind you of the Blue Bomber, that isn't even the half of it.

As I mentioned above, the game is in fact a 2D action adventure game, and it will play out a lot like the classic Mega Man games. You have 8 main stages (as of right now) each with their own unique boss, Beck has an arm cannon which acts as his main form of attack with "special weapons" as stronger elemental based attacks, the same style of health system can be seen in the screen shots, and the sprites as well as art style seem to mimic Mega Man as well.

Although it may be quite some time before this game seems the light of day, it really is a game worth looking into if you are a Mega Man fan. Not only is Inafune himself leading the project, but he's working along side a great team as well.
