Astro's Playroom - Announced for PS5

Astro's Playroom has officially been announced as a free PlayStation 5 launch title, but that may leave many people asking one simple question. What is it? Well..

Astro's Playroom is the latest entry in the PlayStation "Playroom" series. The original game was an included tech demo for the PlayStation 4, and was used to show off the camera and some of the features of the new PS4 controller. It wasn't much, but a lot of Live Streamers used this app to connect with fans, and just hang out with others online. Later on though we would receive the first real "game" release, in the form of "The Playroom VR."

Playroom VR was a game that featured a series of mini games to play with your friends using PlayStation VR. It was made to showcase some of the capabilities of the PSVR, while also showing how both TV and VR headset players could work together. Most of it's games were multiplayer exclusive, but there was one game that stood out among the rest. This was Robot Rescue

Rather than being yet another TV vs VR competitive game, Robot took the little robots from the original Playroom, and put them in a 3D platforming setting. It's a game that took the misconception of "VR games must be first person," proved the world wrong, and delivered a short, yet fun, 3rd person experience. The success of this game is what would eventually lead to the release of "Astro Bot Rescue Mission," a full title release. It took what Robot Rescue did before it, evolved it's ideas greatly, and provided a fun VR experience from start to finish. Astro's Playroom is a follow up to this.
