Recently Tales of series fans have discovered something interesting about Steam, and possible upcoming Remaster Project titles; however, this discovery does not confirm what fans are hoping for—it is more likely the result of those very wishes.
With the announcement of Tales of Xillia being remastered, it is very possible that Tales of Xillia 2 will be remastered at some point as well. It hasn't been announced, but it is something many fans have been searching for on search engines, and on Steam itself. Tales of the Abyss is another popular title many fans wish would receive a remaster or remake, and it too has been seeing a large number of searches recently. It is most likely because of these two game's popularity that the following Google searches now appear when searching for information about them.
These two search pages have been indexed by Google, but they do not confirm the existence of either game on Steam; they are simply search results. To be exact, they are the following URLs:
Unlike an actual Steam Store Page, this is only a search result, and can be anything. If enough people search for it, Google can deem that specific search page worthy of being indexed, and so it gets added to Google search. For example, if enough people searched for Xenoblade Chronicles on Steam, it too could be indexed with a little luck.
Search Engine Indexing isn't limited to main pages, but there is a limited number of pages that can be indexed within a single day. This is one of the reasons why search results are sometimes set to "noindex" to prevent such limits from being reached. Other sites do rely on indexing search results however, and Steam is one such website that allows search results to be crawled. Because of this the pages were allowed to be added to Google's search, and that has allowed fans to stumble upon them and get the wrong idea.
On the other hand, sometimes pages are indexed when they are intended to be hidden, and that can lead to leaked information. We've previously reported on PlayStation titles appearing on the PlayStation Store ahead of their announcement, which is exactly how they were discovered; the pages were indexed. It happens with Steam and other services as well, and even simple glitches can cause pages to go live early or be indexed before the content is actually published. But again, this is not what happened with Tales of the Abyss and Tales of Xillia 2. These are not leaked pages.
Hopefully this has cleared up some of the misinformation being spread! I too would love for both of these titles to come to modern platforms, but for the time being we will just have to keep waiting. Bandai Namco has already confirmed more games will be remastered in the future, so it most likely is just a matter of time before these two titles see a re-release.
