Medabots Possibly Set for a Global Return

The greatest franchise of all time is due to return globally, if the words of a series producer are anything to go by. Speaking to Japanese outlet 4Gamer, Medabots producer Unohee stated that they wish to utilize their Vampire Survivors-like title, Medabots Survivors to garner a wider global fan base and eventually "to make Medarot soaring around the world..." Medarot is the series' Japanese name, and the awkward structure of that sentence is a result of using Google translate on the original Japanese interview. Unohee implies that the immense popularity of the "survivor-like" genre is something they can capitalize on, and that he wanted to try something new and unfamiliar with the series.

Medabots was a relatively popular franchise in the West in the early 2000s; with an anime series, toys, some video games on Nintendo consoles and a limited manga series. As the series experienced waning popularity, we no longer received new series releases in the West, but the series did continue in its native Japan. The series eventually received compilation releases on the Nintendo Switch and popular mobile games, but even if Imagineer (Medabots' publisher) wanted to bring the series back globally, there was a bizarre issue that arose. The trademark for Medabots was picked up by a random man in Europe who used the trademark to make a horrific NFT mobile game. I'll link a comprehensive Reddit post that broke down the nature of this legal nightmare. Wonderfully though, this person was eventually challenged in court and Imagineer won, which is what set the groundwork for this much anticipated return.

I've purged my social media accounts, but if you were friends with me on Twitter (my handle was _RuneScimitar,) you know that I was talking about Medabots constantly. I met several Western Medabots fans, and a Japanese Medabots fan who were all lobbying like I was to see the series return worldwide. We messaged Imagineer incessantly, expressing our undying devotion. We've held the banner high, and for decades; an old guard of Medafighters "robattling" for our rights and for freedom.

While Medabots Survivors isn't the type of game that I'm interested in, you best believe that I'll be there to show my financial support. Imagineer needs to know that there's fertile ground beyond Japan for the franchise to blossom larger than it ever was. They also have easily accessible new games/releases that can be localized, if they find that it's a wise move for them to expand westward. They recently released compilations of all of the Game Boy/Game Boy Color/Game Boy Advance games for the Nintendo Switch, obviously only for the Japanese market, but I long to see those release in the United States. There's also an incredible looking mobile game, Medabots S: Unlimited Nova that has had tons of insane crossovers with other classic series like Zoids and Digimon.

For now, I will remain atop the parapet, bearing the Medabots banner high for all to see. I long to see it return, and I will welcome the influx of new and returning fans. As long as you weirdos don't try to ruin it like you do with everything else nowadays.

  3. Weirdly this may be my favorite childhood franchise after Pokémon. I love the concept, and it kinda baffles me that this IP is just sitting around when every entertainment company is desperately sucking every inch of IP available. Here’s hoping for a comeback.

  7. I see what happened, the law suit and all, not from the fanatical point of view, but from the coherent point of view, the situation was at least bead, on one side we had the actual owner company, (Imaginer) who was holding the rights of the brand, but being honest and not a blind fanatic, they were just waisting the potential of Medabots at all, on the other hand we had they guys who took advantage of the trademark illegally, to build game, speaking facts taking something that is not your is bad, incorrect and must not be done, but in the background the game they developed was between 1,000,000,000 and 70,000,000,000 times better than the wasted effort Imaginer has done in the las few years. I mean Jeremy can cry about it, but the game was good, and this makes me even more upset, becasue how an illegally made game, from a unknown campany can be waaaaaaaayyyyyy better than the actual product from the one who actually owns i;t, the answers?, is because Imaginer really don't care, all the boys can send as much "emails" or whatever to Imaginer, and they just do not care, i have seen already the Medabots Survivors and beeing honest, as a hard core Medabots fan, it is just a huge piece of crap, it just seems like a 2d game that a 13 year old boy could do on a boring wendsday in his living room,, what is the matter of holding fiercely to a brand if you then realease crappy games, they do not sell or get played and then you have to erase them because no one plays them, and the when asked you say, that there was no interest in the title, yeah there was non because the game was awful, beaing a good fans, does not means to celebrate every mediocre game the company relases, being a loyal fan means that you support and celebrate a good realease but also you punish the company for a mediocre release
