How to Get a House In Cattle Country

When you first start up Cattle Country you are given a tent to place anywhere within your farmland. The tent is small, but it contains a bed to rest up and save your game, and a little bit of space to place furniture. The more you play the game however, the quicker you run out of space, and the idea of having a full house becomes more and more appealing.

But how do you get one you ask?

Well it actually takes quite a few steps, and the sooner you get started, the faster you can begin building.

Step 1: Building The Roof For Town Hall

Before you can even think about getting a house, you first need to help the town out and construct a roof for Town Hall. You can begin this project by heading into town and going to the bank, which is where you will learn what is required; that being 500 Wood, 1,000 Stones, and 10,000 Gold.

Now this may sound like a lot, but in reality this isn't going to take as much time as you might think.

Step 2: Gathering

Cattle Country is packed full of resources, to the point where you can make loads of money without growing a single thing yourself. Trees with fruit, flowers, mushrooms, and rocks can be found cluttering nearly every single section of the map. By simply walking around and mashing the "pick up" button, you can quickly gather countless items, and then take them back to be sold. Along the way you might also complete some of the game's goals to give you extra cash, but typically you can get at least 1,000 Gold a day without too much effort.

You can make your life even easier by buying the bag expansion for 5,000 Gold, which is honestly one of the first things you might want to do. It saves you trips back home to sell or place items into storage, and 5,000 isn't too much in the long run.

After gathering 10,000 Gold, you can deposit this into the bank for safe keeping. This will also reward you with an additional 5,000 Gold, which is exactly what you will need to actually purchase your house. In other words, despite needing money to purchase your home, simply getting the 10,000 for Town Hall is all you truly need to come up with. This helps speed things along for sure, but realistically you'll be getting a lot more money than you'll know what to do with. Starting a farm will speed the process up a bit as well, but again, this isn't necessary if you don't want to.

Step 3: Getting Wood and Stones

Step 3 is actually something you can be completing along with Step 2. While you pick up everything in sight, take the time to burn all of your energy each day by cutting trees and smashing whatever rocks you come across. You need 500 Wood, and thankfully most trees will reward you with at least 20 pieces or so when you cut them down. This goes extremely fast, but it can take a day or two of full energy to actually get enough (assuming you aren't crafting other items that need Wood as well). The Stones on the other hand, this is what will take some time.

Each rock you smash only gives off a few pieces, with some of the higher ones giving around 10. Considering you need 1,000, this is going to take awhile. Although your farm has plenty of rocks to smash, with more constantly showing up, one of the best ways to gather them is to actually head to the mine. Stock up on some food, grab your helmet for some light, and get to work digging deep. Just keep in mind that your character can only jump two spaces high in the mine, and without bringing climbing materials with you, you can get stuck and have to "pass out" for the day. This will result in a doctor visit, and that includes a small fee as well. Thankfully when you first enter the mine you are given some resources to use, so it shouldn't be a problem if you play it safe.

I personally avoided needing resources by following the pattern of digging two spaces down, one space to the right, and once again two spaces down. This created "steps" that reached deeper into the mine, and that rewarded me with each "depth" milestone I reached. The payout isn't anything too crazy, but extra cash is still extra cash.

Spend a few in game days doing this and you should reach 1,000 in no time, and you can then take everything back to the bank. You can then take the money out of storage, drop the requested material off, and then be done with it. Simply wait a day, and Town Hall will be open.

Step 4: Repeat Step 3 to Craft Your House

The next day you wake up after opening Town Hall you will find a letter in your mailbox. It tells you that you can now get a house of your very own, and that all you need to do is go talk to the carpenter Maggie. Her shop can be found not too far from the Bank, and by talking to her and selecting the Build Tab you can find the Log Cabin House has been added to the list. Of course it isn't free, and will require 5,000 Gold along with 100 Stones, and 500 Wood.

If you remembered to deposit the 10,000 into the bank first, then you will already have the 5,000 Gold required. It is the additional Stones and Wood that will take some more time. Thankfully gathering 100 Stones is nothing compared to the previous 1,000, and trees are extremely fast to cut down and gather from. Assuming you've still been collecting and selling items daily, you might even have extra cash to play around with, and all of the rock smashing in the mines might've gotten you enough Iron to upgrade your tools. Of course you need a furnace to melt 5 pieces of Iron into a single piece of ore, and each upgrade requires 10 (along with 2,000 Gold). Upgraded tools work faster and better than the starting tools, and this can speed up the tree cutting and rock smashing process... But it isn't required at all, and is something that can be worried about later.

Realistically, it is faster to simply keep cutting down trees and smashing rocks with your beginner tools, and you will have all of the items needed in no time. However, if you have been playing the game for awhile and still do not have a house, then having the upgraded tools first can help you get it faster.

Step 5: Re-placing Your Tent and Moving Objects

After you have gathered the 5,000 Gold, 100 Stones, and 500 Wood, then the last step is to hand it all over to Maggie, and then go out to re-place your tent; as in, pick your tent up and place it down somewhere else. If your tent is too close to other objects Maggie will not upgrade it, and sometimes it is easier to relocate the tent than it is to move everything around it.

It is honestly your choice on how you want to handle it, but you also have to decide if your tent is really where you want your house to be. Maggie does sell a cheap "building relocating" item in her shop, but moving your tent now is your last chance to easily move it around the farm. To do so all you need to do is hit it with your pickaxe to pick it up, and then drop it just like any other item. This applies to pretty much anything else placed on the ground as well, so don't worry if something dropped in a spot you didn't want it in.

Once you have decided a location for your house, or moved any items out of the way, then all you have to do is wait a few days for the house to be constructed. Once it is ready you will simply wake up to a bigger room than before, and the upgrade will be complete.

Step 6: Second Story

After obtaining your house, a second story can be added by obtaining 6 hearts with Maggie. This means talking to her each day, giving her gifts, and viewing the friendship events as she ranks up. Once she reaches 6 hearts you can purchase the second story upgrade for 25,000 Gold, 500 Wood, and 100 Stones.

And there you have it! You now have a house in Cattle Country! Following these steps will also unlock the option to upgrade the town in multiple ways, just head over to Town Hall to learn more about that, and the steps leading up to getting a house will give you a good head start on the game as well. You should have plenty of extra cash by following this process, which can be used to buy items like sprinklers, and other tools that will make your life easier. Unlike in most farm simulator games, not everything has to be crafted here, and spending some extra money now can save you in the long run later on. Don't be afraid to spend your money on such items, as cash will not be in short supply.
