During Capcom's 46th Ordinary General Meeting of Shareholders Q&A session, Capcom confirmed that the Mega Man series is still one of the company's most important IPs, and that they are currently looking at how to develop the series going forward.
While Capcom did not confirm what this meant, they did mention that they get questioned about the series quite a bit, and a lot of these inquiries come from overseas; aka the West.
As fans of the series may know, it has been quite some time since a new entry was released, with many parts of the overall series currently being left off with cliffhangers. Legends 2 released in 2000 and ended in a "to be continued" way, with Legends 3 unfortunately being canceled. (I was actually one of the final contestants for the boss design contest.) Mega Man X 8 came out in 2004 and ended in a pretty surprising way, with ZX Advent releasing a couple of years later in 2006, which also had a cliffhanger ending. Not to mention the canceled Mega Man Starforce 4 which was set to tie more into the Battle Network series, but it sadly never came to be. This is the current state of every Mega Man sub series.
Of course Capcom confirming that Mega Man is still important to them doesn't necessarily mean that a new game or a new project in general is in the works. It is simply the company stating they own Mega Man, and that there is always the possibility that it will return. When and how (and if) is still up in the air, but the chances of a new entry isn't 0. Mega Man 12 and the collections released over the last handful of years have done quite well in sales, and Capcom has taken notice of this... But we have to wait and see if anything actually comes of it.Here is the direct quote for anyone who would like to read it for themselves:
