Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake Will Not Include a Switch 2 Upgrade Option

Square Enix has confirmed that the Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo Switch 2 versions of Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake will be separate games completely, and will not include an upgrade option.

This news comes from a notice posted to their official website, where they detail the differences between the two versions of the game.

As expected, the Switch 2 version will include enhanced graphics and improved performance, but will be identical to the Switch version content wise. They also confirmed that save data will be exclusive to each version, so you cannot transfer your progress between the two.

On the plus side, the book edition of Dragon Quest III will still be compatible with Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D, as the game cases are still the same size.

Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake is set to release on October 30th, 2025 on Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
