Helldivers 2 has released a new Bring the Boom Trailer which at first glance appears to be a typical advertisement for the game, however the end features something quite interesting.
Published by Sony, Helldivers 2 was initially a PlayStation and PC exclusive, with an Xbox Series X|S release now set for August 26th, 2025. Now with the new trailer, the developers seem to be hinting at a Halo crossover, or more specially, Halo 3: ODST.
The scene plays out at the very end of the trailer where the Halo 3: ODST theme music begins to play, and we see what appears to be a drop ship making a landing. For those who are not familiar with Halo lore, ODST stands for "Orbital Drop Shock Trooper" and are soldiers who orbit the world in drop ships, and can be sent nearly anywhere on a planet as needed. Halo 3: ODST was a stand alone side game to the original Halo 3, and featured an ODST unit exploring the remains of Mombasa after its destruction in Halo 2.
Compared to the main series, ODST was unique in the fact that it featured an open city map to explore, with standard missions being triggered when finding key items across the map. These items would then provide flashbacks of the events that befell the area and characters involved, with a final chapter finally bringing everything together.
As of now we do not know when this crossover content will be added into Helldivers 2, but fans can expect to learn more in the near future. With the Xbox release quickly approaching, the full reveal may be sooner than later.
