After announcing it last year, the Virtual Boy has been added to Nintendo's lineup of Nintendo Classics for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2; however, there is a catch.
Unlike previously consoles added to the Nintendo Classics service, which is included as a part of the Nintendo Switch Online subscription, the Virtual Boy requires physical accessories to play—it cannot be played using the TV or by using the consoles undocked. When undocked the Virtual Boy game screen is split into two small squares, which are intended to line up with one of the three possible accessories.
Members of Nintendo Switch Online can purchase a physical Virtual Boy to slide your Nintendo Switch, or Switch 2, into, or you can also purchase a cheaper cardboard alternative. This alternative is similar to the Nintendo Labo "VR" set, which is also the third option for users.
While in theory it is "possible" to play by simply looking at the Switch's screen undocked, it isn't a fun experience, and will be simply too small to play it comfortably.
Note: The Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack is also required.
