Silver Lining Interactive and Infuse Studios are celebrating the one year anniversary of the release of Spirit of the North 2 on PlayStation 5, Xbox, and PC; to mark the occasion, a new Lost Melodies Update is now available, and the stunning 93-track soundtrack is now on all major streaming platforms.
The update includes a brand-new quest featuring the mystical Bard-Shaman, and introduces ten never before heard soundtracks by the acclaimed composer Pav Gekko. Each track can be actively hunted for in game as "Lost Melodies," and uncover the hidden stories and ancient lore fragments connected to each specific piece of music. Additionally players can listen to the songs again by visiting the Bard spirit at their home base.
Spirit of the North 2 features no spoken dialogue, making the music itself the liberal heartbeat of the player's journey.
“During development, there were many tracks we absolutely loved that either evolved into something else or never found a place in the game’s main story, so we held on to these and wrote a new story for them, especially for this update. We wanted the music to feel inseparable from the world, almost like a character guiding the player emotionally,” shared the composer, Pav Gekko. “We have received hundreds of messages from players talking about the impact the music has had on them, and this update is a special way of celebrating the game’s important connection with music and how much it means to players.“
"From the game’s inception and throughout its entire development, music has always been a central focus. Since there is no spoken dialogue in this game, we rely on more subtle forms of storytelling. In many cases, we had to understand the music of this world before the story could be fully realized. At times, it even felt a bit backwards.” Tayler Christensen, Director at Infuse Studio, explains: “As I developed the narrative, I had many long conversations with Pav, and as the music evolved, it helped me understand what this story was truly about. I don’t think most people consider the relationship between music and story in this way."
“We usually think of music as something created to accompany a fully formed narrative. But for me, the story would never have found its conclusion without the music being discovered in parallel. It is one design. During development, there were many tracks we absolutely loved that either evolved into something else or never found a place in the game’s main story, so we held on to these and wrote a new story for them, especially for this update.”
