Nintendo Replacing Consoles and Accessories in EU to Meet New Battery Regulations

Nintendo has announced they will be replacing all Nintendo products within the EU region with new batteries to meet the European Battery Regulations coming into effect in February of 2027.

Starting now, Summer of 2026, Nintendo will begin preparations to replace existing products, with the first batch expected to roll out later in the season. Additional products will become available in the autumn, winter, and early 2027 ahead of the mandate in February. The changes in batteries will have different impacts on products, with slight weight increases, and changes to the charge capacity of the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller and Nintendo GameCube Controller for Nintendo Switch 2.

Battery replacement kits will also be available to purchase from Nintendo Store in Europe in the near future.
