Did you receive a Steam Gift Card from a friend or someone you know, and all it asks you to do is scan a QR Code? DO NOT DO IT!
This is a scam that has been around for a while, but recently we've personally seen increased activity on this front—especially with the news of physical gift cards no longer being available.
While in some cases links are sent instead, it will typically come in the form of the image above. Scanning this code or clicking the link can give scammers access to your Steam account, which will allow them to continue sending fake cards out to more people. If a friend sent you a fake gift card, contact them immediately and let them know their account has been compromised.
Steam Gift Cards sent to you will either be applied directly to your account or provided as a standard code. You never need to click a link or scan a QR code to redeem them.
