Nomura and Yasue Discuss Kingdom Hearts IV With Famitsu, Script Almost Twice the Length of Kingdom Hearts III

Famitsu
recently interviewed both Director Tetsuya Nomura and Co-Director Tai Yasue to learn more about the upcoming Kingdom Hearts IV, and while much of the game is still a secret, a handful of new details have now come to light.

The (Japanese) interview can be read in full here, but some of the key takeaways include:

  • Worlds featured in Kingdom Hearts IV are the most "detailed" in the series' history.

  • Due to this, there will be fewer worlds, and Nomura stated if they announced them too quickly, they would run out of things to talk about fast.

  • However, this doesn't mean the game is short. The Coco World "Remember Me" is only a small part of the overall game.

  • The script is said to be almost twice the length of Kingdom Hearts III

  • Characters returning from χ will be explained within the title, players will not need to have played the mobile game, or Dark Road; however, Kingdom Hearts IV does directly tie to the stories told within the "χ series."

  • The voice heard at the end of the extended trailer shown at D23 was in fact Kairi.

  • At this time they cannot reveal additional information about the upcoming anime series, but they've seen the speculation online regarding the main character's identity; it was not confirmed if this speculation was correct however.

  • It was reconfirmed that the anime series will expand upon the universe of Kingdom Hearts, which has built up quite a large cast of characters over the years.

  • It was stated, once again, Kingdom Hearts IV will not be delayed. It is releasing in 2027.

Along with these facts, quite a few interesting pieces of information were revealed about the development of the series in general, so feel free to check out the original interview to learn more.

Kingdom Hearts IV is set to release in 2027 for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
