What are The Viking Sagas?

The Viking Sagas is a DLC set in Northern Europe primarily during the Viking Age. Masters of warfare on land and at sea, the Danes, Saxons, and Varangians offer Age of Empires II players the game’s core unit roster along with several unique and region-specific assets representing iconic features of each region. Veterans and newcomers alike will enjoy approachable, powerful, and immersive new civilizations!

Danes – Sail swift longships to raid and pillage your enemies’ lands to your heart’s content! The Danish unique unit is the Jomsviking, a nimble and hardy infantryman that hurls a torch when attacking enemy buildings and ships.
Saxons – Construct mighty fortified towns and unify England in the face of ruthless Scandinavian invasions. The Saxon unique unit is the Hearth Troop, a heavy infantryman that hurls a javelin before engaging in melee combat.
Varangians – Fearlessly navigate Europe’s waterways, ride down your foes, and enlist as mercenaries to wealthy empires! The Varangian unique unit is the Jarl, an axe-hurling cavalryman that shreds enemy infantry.
Immersive and Region-Specific Assets
Several region-specific assets for increased immersion in Northern European history:
Varangian Guards — deadly shock infantry who generate gold while fighting and excel at raiding and melee combat. Varangian Guards serve the Byzantines, Danes, Saxons, Varangians, and Vikings.
Mounted Crossbowmen — hard-hitting but slow-firing ranged soldiers who strike fear into infantry armies. Available to the Danes, Saxons, Varangians, and Vikings, as well as most European civilizations.
Longships — swift warships that combine potency and versatility. The Danes, Saxons, Varangians, and Vikings can all construct Longships.
