SEGA and Rovio have announced the previously rebooted Sonic Blitz 2.0 has now been canceled, and the game will end service on August 24th, 2026.
Here is the full message as shared by the developers:
I have some difficult news to share about the future of Sonic Blitz.
After careful consideration, we have decided to discontinue development of Sonic Blitz. This decision is part of broader changes at our studio, and it means that the game will not move forward beyond the soft-launch phase.
We know this may come as a surprise, especially after everything we have shared over the past months. We want to be clear that this decision is not a reflection of the passion, creativity, or effort that went into making Sonic Blitz, nor of the amazing support we received from our community throughout the development of the game.
We are incredibly proud of what the team created, and every single person in the studio is very grateful to everyone who took the time to play, provide feedback, and be part of the community.
As a result of this decision, Sonic Blitz will be removed from the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store, meaning the game will no longer be accessible after August 24th 2026.
Thank you for being with us through the journey. Whether you joined us recently or have been here since v1.0 of the CCG, your support meant a great deal to the team.
Thank you for playing Sonic Blitz!
About Sonic Blitz 2.0:
Welcome to version 2.0 of Sonic Blitz! Let's see what we've been working on over the last few months.
Core gameplay updatesCharacters
- The new core gameplay alternates between Team Battler RPG and Running levels.
- Battles occur in real time, and you can use special abilities to influence the outcome.
- During the running levels, you can move Sonic without lane constraints and collect Rings, dash through enemies, and more!
- The following characters are currently available to play: Sonic, Amy, Big, and Mighty. Tails and Cream are available but will be playable at a later stage.
- Characters still have to be upgraded by collecting Cards and Coins
Cards
- Character stats are no longer displayed on the front side of the card. They can now be found in the character menu and include Power, Attack, HP, and Rarity.
- A new type of cards has been added: Ability Cards, which are unique to each character.
- Abilities cost Energy, which regenerates over time during the battle.
- Card collection and Albums are still an important part of the game!
General updates
- All characters have new animations and attacks for the challenges ahead!
- Currencies have been reduced to: Gold Coins, Red Star Rings, and Energy.
- The new levels are currently accessible through a Story map divided into chapters.
