GSC Game World has announced S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 Update 2.0 will launch on August 20th, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
Here's a quick overview of everything new included in the update.
Update Overview:
Visual Evolution
Update 2.0 overhauls the Zone's lighting and visuals:
- Improved lighting. Players can expect a more natural and immersive look with more realistic shadows and reflections across the environment, both inside buildings and in underground locations.
- Reworked landscapes and foliage to make the Zone feel more organic.
A-Life Improvements
A-Life now brings more believable activity and encounters to the Zone:Customizable Experience
- More contested points of interest, including campfires, bus stops, and other locations where stalkers and mutants can cross paths.
- Numerous under-the-hood fixes address issues such as enemies shooting or throwing objects through walls and unexpected overpopulation in certain areas.
Update 2.0 introduces Custom Rules, allowing players to tailor the difficulty to their preferred playstyle. Adjust individual settings to create anything from a more forgiving survival experience to a truly hardcore challenge.
Players looking for an even tougher experience can also try Master difficulty and the optional Expedition mode, previously introduced in earlier updates.
Binoculars
Three types of binoculars are now available to help stalkers scout the Zone, identify targets, and plan their next move. Each model features different technology and functionality — find them throughout the Zone or purchase them from certain traders.
New Weapons and Scopes
Update 2.0 expands the arsenal with four new weapons:A unique variant of one of these weapons can also be discovered somewhere in the Zone.
- Arev — assault rifle.
- GP3A — designated marksman rifle.
- SKP — designated marksman rifle.
- Fora-230 — submachine gun.
The update also adds new optics, including a x3 scope for Western-bloc weapons and a new red dot sight for Eastern-bloc weapons. Offset aiming has also been expanded beyond NVG use, giving stalkers more freedom to customize their loadouts.
In addition to that:Since the release of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, the Zone has continued to evolve alongside the community. Update 2.0 brings together years of feedback, technical improvements, and new ideas to make the Zone a better, stranger, and more immersive place.
- Fog is now more than a weather effect — it is a gameplay mechanic. Both stalkers and their enemies have reduced visibility and hearing. The Light Rainy weather scenario has also received a visual overhaul to complement the updated environmental presentation.
- A new Statistics page has been added to the PDA, allowing stalkers to track their activity across the Zone.
- Bloodsuckers and Fleshes can now feature different appearances depending on their habitat, making encounters with these familiar threats more varied across the Zone.
On the same day — August 20 — the first major expansion for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, titled Cost of Hope, launches. This expansion explores the long-running conflict between the well-known factions Duty and Freedom. Players can look forward to numerous hours exploring new locations, including the Iron Forest, CNPP, and Spatial Bubble, while experiencing the iconic atmosphere of the Zone. Upon release, it will be available as part of the Ultimate Edition of the base game, or as a standalone purchase for 29.99 USD/EUR (subject to regional pricing).
