About:

Final Fantasy Resonance is built on the concept, “What if Final Fantasy had continued to push the limits of pixel art?” The game sends you off on a journey to protect the Crystals scattered across the world and to stop the pursuit of Veritas of the Dark who seeks to destroy the world. This tale of crystals is brought to life in high-definition pixel art in the HD-2D style, alongside familiar Final Fantasy elements such as chocobos and airships, an evolved turn-based battle system, and a more accessible take on the classic job system.

Cinematic Pixel Art

The opening movie and other cinematics feature a cutting-edge pixel-based style using a production method that renders 3DCG in pixel form to achieve dynamic visuals while retaining the timeless charm of pixel art.

Gameplay System – Combat

Final Fantasy’s classic turn-based command battles have evolved to deliver greater accessibility and deeper strategy.

Timeline:

Engage in combat by making full use of the timeline, which displays the upcoming action order of both allies and enemies through the next turn. The timeline at the top of the screen displays the action order, with characters taking their turns from left to right.

Stagger Gauge:

Depleting the stagger gauge displayed beneath an enemy’s HP bar will stagger them, preventing them from acting on their turn and lowering their defense. Knowing when to stagger enemies by watching the timeline is key to devising effective battle strategies.

Gameplay System – Visions

Visions:

Complete events involving characters you meet throughout the story for a chance to obtain visions, items which are crystallized essences of those characters. Equip visions and win battles to unlock new abilities.

Synergies from Equipped Abilities:

Once an ability is learned from a vision, it can still be equipped even when a different vision is active, as long as it remains within the cost limit, allowing abilities from multiple visions to be set at the same time. This system is a more accessible and evolved take on the familiar job system from the FINAL FANTASY series, with certain ability setups producing powerful synergies.

Legacy Final Fantasy Heroes:

Visit vision crystal sanctums scattered across the world to obtain visions of legacy Final Fantasy heroes. Equip them as you would any other vision to harness their powers.

The latest trailer released during today’s State of Play revealed that Sephiroth will be making an appearance. Players will be able to find and challenge Sephiroth in hopes of winning and unlocking a special reward.

Resonances:

When a Sweeping Stagger occurs, you can unleash a Vision-specific special move called “Resonance” at the end of the Extra Phase. Resonances come in many forms—not only delivering high damage but also offering a variety of abilities such as powerful AoE attacks and additional effects.

Gameplay System – Espers

Progress through the story and complete side quests to unlock powerful summons known as espers. When summoned, espers fight alongside your party for three turns, delivering a powerful finishing move on the final turn before disappearing.
