AUGUST Inc. has announced that they are developing Uta Macross, a rhythm game for PC via Steam, iOS, and Android based on the smartphone rhythm game Uta Macross: Smartphone De Culture, which ended service in 2022.
The new version of the game is an offline release, and will be available in both English and Japanese. It will feature over 50 songs from the Macross series, but a crowdfunding campaign has also been launched to expand upon that number.
The campaign will launch on September 10th, 2026, and will run until October 31st. Those who support it will receive special rewards, and will be helping the team expand upon the project, possibly bringing the title to additional platforms as well.
Initially the title will be exclusive to Japan, but fans from the west can still support the campaign.
Here's a message from Uta Macross Revival Project Producer and AUGUST Inc. Representative Director, Kei Hirono:
Hello everyone. My name is Kei Hirono, and I will be serving as the producer of the Uta Macross Revival Project.
With the warm cooperation and trust of BIGWEST, the copyright holder; xeen, who will once again be responsible for development, as they were for the previous version; and DeNA, who carefully operated and supported the previous version for many years, I am honored to be involved as the producer as this project gets underway.
The driving force behind the launch of this project has been the passionate support from fans who have continued to call for the return of Uta Macross. We are determined to answer that passion in every way we can. Our goal is to create a world where as many players as possible can enjoy the game across a wide range of platforms and environments.
There are still challenges that we must overcome, but the continued support of our fans will be our greatest driving force.
We would greatly appreciate it if you could show your support for this new beginning by adding the project to your Favorites on CAMPFIRE and adding Uta Macross to your Steam Wishlist.
About Uta Macross:
Uta Macross is a rhythm game featuring singers and pilots from across the Macross franchise. Players can enjoy numerous classic songs that have helped define the franchise, featuring characters from The Super Dimension Fortress Macross, Macross Plus, Macross 7, Macross Frontier, and Macross Delta, including characters from their respective TV series and theatrical films.
While carrying over popular content from its previous live service version, including live performances and artwork, the game is being rebuilt for release on Steam, iOS, and Android.
The game’s design has been optimized beyond its original smartphone-focused touch controls, allowing players to enjoy the game comfortably using a keyboard and mouse as well. The team aims to create a game that will be enjoyable not only for those who played the previous version, but also for newcomers experiencing Uta Macross for the first time.
Standard Edition includes approximately 50 Songs! Over 1,000 Illustrations, Plus the Return of the Character Outfit System!
The Standard Edition of Uta Macross is planned to include a carefully selected lineup of approximately 50 songs, including many fan-favorite tracks. Players will also have access to more than 1,000 4-star-or-higher rarity Plates, as well as more than 20 outfits for each singer, from the beginning of the game.
The gacha system used to increase the rarity of owned Plates will also be completely free to play, with unlimited pulls! This makes it much easier to unlock special performances that players may have missed in the previous version because they were unable to obtain rare Plates or outfits at the time.
In addition to the Standard Edition, multiple DLC packs are planned for simultaneous release, adding the remaining songs from the live service version, along with select additional Plates and outfits.
A Crowdfunding Campaign to Build the Future of Uta Macross Together with Fans
Even after the service ended, the Uta Macross team continued to receive many requests from fans hoping to see the game return. In response, members of the original development team who shared the same desire have come together to launch the Uta Macross Revival Project.
Through the crowdfunding campaign on CAMPFIRE, in addition to supporting the development of the game, the team aims to create a title that can be enjoyed by more players for years to come. Based on the level of support and feedback received through the campaign, plans include expanding the supported platforms and adding new songs through DLC releases.
A variety of special rewards that can only be obtained through the crowdfunding campaign will also be available. Please visit the dedicated CAMPFIRE campaign page for more details.
