My hopes for a good Mario Party were once again crushed when the Treehouse revealed the next game in the series after the digital event. Mario Party 10 follows 9's format of everyone-in-a-car, as the player with the gamepad takes control of a new gimmick, Bowser, to... screw with the players I guess.
The car gimmick in 9 is the sole reason I didn't even try it at all but the gamepad-centric gameplay seems to confirm that yes, this is the eleventh proper Mario Party with no online play whatsoever. Nothing on the subject has been officially confirmed, but I wouldn't hold my breath for this game if you're still waiting for an online Mario Party as I am.
