After many years of painstakingly translating every piece of text, a fan group has released a Mod for SEGA's Sakura Wars 2: Thou Shalt Not Die, and fully localized the game into English.
Previously, SEGA had only officially translated the fifth Sakura Wars into English on the PS2 and Wii, and the 2019 Sakura Wars on PS4. This left the first four entries in the series as Japanese exclusives, keeping the West in the dark.
The original Sakura Wars, along with the Game Boy version, were fan translated quite a few years ago, but the direct sequels remained in Japanese until now.
Sakura Wars 2: Thou Shalt Not Die is the direct sequel to the original, and follows the same cast of characters. Like the rest of the series, the game is a mixture between a visual novel and a tactical RPG, with a large focus on relationships and making choices during the main character's daily life. Characters pilot mechs to combat demons during crisis, but manage and work at theater during the day. This unique blend of gameplay helps the series stand out among other tactical RPGs, and gives players complete freedom over how the game plays out.
To play the translation, players will need to own a copy of the original SEGA Saturn release. While it is also possible to play the game as a stand alone release, it is strongly recommended to play the original Sakura Wars first, as this is a direct continuation.
