Along with the announcement of the Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo revealed a new direction for some physical Switch 2 video games; the Switch 2 Game-Key Card... But what is it?
As explained by Nintendo, the Switch 2 Game-Key Card is a new digital download system. Physical games specially marked as Game-Key Card titles will include a physical game card, but will not include a physical copy of the game. When inserted into the Switch 2, the Game-Key will connect to the internet and download a digital copy of the game, with the Game-Key acting as a license to play said.

This means a game cannot be played without the Game-Key inserted into the console, but will not require an internet connection once the game is installed. Unlike digital codes however, the Game-Key can be shared with friends, or sold like any other physical release.
