Nintendo has revealed that Nintendo Switch 2 units have been shipped out with a battery calibration issue, and they have now provided steps on how to fix it.
Step 1: Ensure Your Console is Updated
Nintendo recommends that you connect to the internet and ensure the Switch 2 has the latest version installed before attempting the following steps. Simply connect, navigate to settings, and check for update. If you are at the latest version, then you are good to proceed.
Step 2: Power Off Your Device and Plug It In
The first step is simple. Turn off your Nintendo Switch 2 device, and plug it into an AC Adapter. The Switch 2 does not need to be charged to max, and having some battery drain will give you a better idea of just how far off the indicator really was.
Note: The original Switch AC Adapter can be used to charge the console when plugged into the Switch 2 directly, but cannot be used with the Switch 2 Dock.
Step 3: Hold the Volume Up and Volume Down Buttons and Press Power
By holding both the Volume Up and Volume Down Buttons when you power on the Switch 2, you will enter the Switch 2's recovery mode. Note that you will need to continue holding the volume buttons as the Switch 2 powers up, or else recovery mode will not activate. This menu is going to be useful for fixing other possible Switch 2 issues in the future, but for the sake of this guide we are only looking at the battery indicator issue.
Step 4: Power Off The Switch 2 Again
Simply getting to Recovery Mode has reset the battery indicator on the Switch 2. You can now power the device off!
Step 5: Turn the Switch 2 on and Enjoy!
From here on out your Switch 2 should be good to go! While the battery % recovered may be different from user to user, we had a case where the battery reading was nearly 20% off from the charge level. This is a significant increase, which has added more time onto our Switch 2 handheld mode.
Nintendo has stated that you may need to perform the above steps multiple times if the situation has not improved, so feel free to repeat if you haven't noticed a change.
