The recently announced horror game where you play as a cat in a haunted house, The Way hOme, has been canceled; however, its validity has been also been drawn into question.
The game was stated to have allowed players to take on the role of a cat who can see the paranormal, and explore haunted locations in Japan.
According to the initial announcement, it was previously set to release on PC and consoles on October 30th, 2025, and featured unique "cat mechanics," such as a claw sharpening. However, the game has now been canceled by the developer.

In a social media post the developer, Joyful Calamity, had this to say:
I'm sorry. Many people paid attention to "The Way hOme," but due to various circumstances, we have decided to cancel the development of this work. I cannot say the reason for the cancellation now.
Outside of this, next to no information has been provided about the game. Additionally social media posts tagged by the developer now displays This Post Is Fiction, along with hashtag ThisGameDoesNotExist. This has lead some to question if the title was real to begin with.
While we cannot confirm if the title was real or not, we here at Netto's Game Room have never received a press statement from the developers or a publisher regarding the game's announcement.
