Arc System Works has announced the alien interrogation adventure game Donutal for PC; a free demo is now available.
About:
Donutal is an alien screening adventure game where you uncover true identities through "conversation." The game is set in the year 2206, at an International Space Port built upon the remains of the former ISS. Players take on the role of an "Alien Entry Examiner" with a massive debt to his name, freshly awakened from a 150-year cryosleep. Despite having amnesia, the examiner must screen aliens arriving on Earth.
These aliens are seen as a potential solution to Earth's mounting problems. While some wish to enter for tourism or study, are their intentions truly innocent? Players’ screening decisions will determine the fate of the Earth.
Players screen aliens in groups of up to eight individuals. Players must deduce the truth. They decide whether to grant entry based on what information they gather from their conversations with the aliens, what they say, who they suspect, and who they protect.
Players can summon up to two members of a group to the interrogation room at the same time. Whether they are lovers, strangers, or members of hostile species, their reactions and answers will change depending on who is standing next to them. By interrogating two people simultaneously, players may expose hidden motives and contradictions.
While players may want to actively allow entry to aliens who can contribute to Earth’s prosperity, letting in dangerous individuals could lead to irreversible consequences. The morning news will report on how players’ decisions from the previous day impacted the planet.
Can the inspector pay off their debt and set foot on Earth? Will the Earth even remain by then? All of it depends entirely on players’ choices.
Characters
DOLPHIN – An android assigned to be your assistant. DOLPHIN provides training and operational support but possesses no authority to judge and has no manual for moral decisions. Do not expect DOLPHIN to get deeply involved in the screening process.
Martian – Adapted to the thin atmosphere of Mars, their bodies absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen. They lack the concept of social filters. Consequently, they are incapable of lying.
Pictor – Possessing technology far superior to Earth's, they are seen as potential saviors for the planet's long-standing problems. Their knowledge is said to be the greatest in the universe. If you are in trouble, relying on them is usually a safe bet.
Octo – Chic and adorable aliens with a distinctive way of speaking. They are highly intelligent and honest. Despite sharing a genetic link with the Takoo species, the two groups are in a hostile relationship.
In addition to these, many other unique aliens that defy human common sense will appear in the game.
