Square Enix has announced Final Fantasy XIV will be coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 in August of 2026.
The news was announced at Fan Festival 2026 where director Yoshi-P confirmed an early access period will also go live prior to the release date—expected to be at least a month before in July. During this period the game will be completely free, and will not require a subscription.
In addition to this announcement, Yoshi-P has confirmed the Nintendo Switch 2 version will need its own subscription to play; however, a Nintendo Switch Online subscription is not required. Players who are already subscribed to Final Fantasy XIV online on another platform can subscribe to the Switch 2 version with a 50% discount.
