Today's game on display from our physical collection is Rare Replay for the Xbox One!
My memories surrounding the Rare Replay collection are actually pretty unique. It was August 2015 when this little gem released exclusively for the Xbox One, and that week turned out to be something that would permanently change how I approached PC gaming. It all started with taking a week off as a "summer vacation" from my job, and I was really looking forward to simply relaxing around the house and spending time in the pool.
However, as the weekend arrived, I was greeted by my PC updating to the newly released Windows 10, which ultimately trapped my system in an endless blue screen loop as the unsupported drivers on my old PC crumbled under the new OS. Rather than attempting to find a temporary fix, I did something I should have done long before—I set out to build my very first custom gaming PC.
Building PCs and Local Co-Op
The following week honestly became one of my favorite summer breaks of all time. Between hunting for PC parts in person and online, I spent time swimming, hanging out with family, and catching up with friends. Rare Replay releasing right in the middle of all that was the icing on the cake, providing hours of fun whenever I took a moment to relax at home.
Jet Force Gemini was a major focus of mine since it was a childhood classic I used to play all the time with my dad, and the two of us sat down to check out the HD version together. Moving past that, my friend Keith stopped by to play through Perfect Dark Zero in co-op, and my friend Ryan, who had moved across the state roughly two years prior, also came over to hang out. Between my cousin visiting from out of state and other friends helping out with my PC build, it was an absolute jam-packed week filled with great memories.
A Standout Collection
As for Rare Replay itself, it remains one of the main reasons my Xbox is still hooked up, even though I now play the majority of Xbox releases on PC. It is an outstanding compilation of classics like Banjo-Kazooie, Battletoads Arcade, Conker's Bad Fur Day, Viva Piñata, and so many others, and it's honestly the one title from Xbox I'd love to see ported to other platforms. It features a fantastic mix of games that appeal to a wide range of players, so everyone is sure to find at least one favorite.
It is hard to believe it's been 11 years since its launch because it still feels like it was only yesterday—though, technically, it was just a few weeks ago that I booted it back up!
