Footage of a possible Persona 1 Remake has surfaced online, showcasing dungeon gameplay, battles, and story scenes.
The "leaked" video surfaced yesterday on Reddit's r/GamingLeaksAndRumours where user u/Dastanovich shared the following information along with a link to the video:
- Tatsuya (P2 Innocent Sin protagonist) seems to be a stand-in for Masao
- P1 Protagonist is referred to as "Boy With Earring" (like in P2 Eternal Punishment)
- UE debug text in top-left during battle (ATLUS switched to UE with P3R)
- New remix of Pandora theme playing (PSX OST confirmed instead of PSP)
- P1 Protagonist keeps the black upper lip from OG (Kazuma Kaneko staple)
- Eri's UI has the "Persona" prompt (everyone is still a Wild Card)
- She also seems to reuse Yukiko's summon animation (more credibility)
Since then the video has been uploaded to YouTube by user P1REMAKE, who hasn't uploaded a video in over 14 years.
At this time it is impossible to tell if this is fake, as there is no official announcement, but Persona 3 Reload was leaked in a similar way. Additionally Persona 1 and Persona 2 remakes have appeared in ATLUS' yearly survey for many years now, where fans had the option to vote for what games they would like to see next. Other voting options included, Persona 5 Dancing (released as Dancing in Starlight) Persona 3 remake (again, released as Reload), Persona 4 remake (releasing in 2027 as Persona 4 Revival), and Persona 6. While not all available options have become a reality, such as a Persona 5 Fighting Game, a Persona Shooting game, Online game, and Board Game, the fact that Persona 1 and 2 have appeared year after year show ATLUS themselves have had interest in it, while the other options have faded away over time.
Persona Central has logged the questions each year, but here's a link to the 2020 survey before many of the above games were developed.
Either way, while we cannot know for sure if this footage is faked at the moment, the possibility of remakes of the original two games are likely at some point, especially considering how important they are to the overall Persona Timeline.
We'll continue following the story, and provide official updates when available.
