Emma Frost, Ultron and Phoenix Leaked as Upcoming Marvel Rivals Characters

 

There have been quite a few leaks for Marvel Rivals, but it hasn't been clear which revealed files indicate future playable characters, and which are just hinting at world-building, storytelling or potential future in-game events. For instance, many X-Men were leaked, like Cyclops, Gambit and Colossus, but nothing substantial was included in their files, such as movesets or how they work. That begin to change when Blade leaked with loads of information, including his character role-type, his moves, etc. People knew the Blade leak was a real immediately. So now, we've received two new leaks of a similar style: the absurdly buxom, icy supervillain turned member of the X-Men - Emma Frost, and the AI-powered, hyper-intelligent robotic villain - Ultron.

Ultron's inclusion was datamined sometime back in December, but details have been sparse until he was recently included in an official Marvel Rivals Hot Topic merchandise collection, namely in the form of a t-shirt.

 

 The villainous, robot mastermind's abilities have since been datamined as well. Courtesy of RivalsLeaks on Twitter, by way of this MSN article, it looks like Ultron will be a "Strategist" type character, which are the healer/support type characters. Here are his abilities, as per RivalsLeaks' reporting.

 Given Ultron's penchant for utilizing drones in Marvel stories, this seems very true to the character, though interesting and bold to make him function as a healer. I respect the unpredictable approach that Rivals has taken with many of their characters thus far.

Emma Frost will supposedly be a Vanguard character, which is the heavier, tank type role. The leaks indicate that she will have two forms: a human form and a diamond form. It looks like her human form will be more focused on psychic damage-dealing moves, and understandably, her diamond form, is where her tankier nature comes into play. Her abilities are listed as:

2. Psychic Ray (Human Form)

3. Psychic Ray 2

4. Psychic Barrier

5. Diamond Form

6. Diamond Shock

 Blade's abilities have also been revealed since my last post about his inclusion in the game's roster. He will function as a Duelist, which are the damage-focused, DPS type characters in Marvel Rivals. Given his role in the story of Season 1, I expect Blade to be the next character released in the game. His abilities are as follows:

Passive – Bloodline Liberation: According to leaks, Blade can see enemies through walls like the Punisher^[2], granting him a powerful tracking ability that helps in both ambushes and strategic engagements.

Ability 1 – Stomp and Slash: A melee combo attack using his katana, designed to deal high burst damage in close-quarters combat.

Ability 2 – The Dark Knight Attack: A dash or strike ability that allows Blade to engage enemies quickly or reposition during fights.

Ability 3 – Fang Deflect: Blade deflects incoming fire, potentially protecting himself from ranged attacks and offering a defensive edge in fights.

Ultimate – New Moon: Blade transforms into a vampire form, enhancing his stats and unlocking a new set of powerful abilities. This ultimate likely boosts his damage and survivability, making him even more lethal during engagements.

And it appears that he will utilize a katana and a shotgun for his basic attacks, similarly to how Punisher has two togglable weapons.

 

The only other intriguing piece of Marvel Rivals information that I've seen so far is that the X-Men character, Phoenix, also known as, Jean Grey, has had her abilities leak, which seems like a confirmation of her eventual joining of the roster, if these other character leaks are anything to go by. Phoenix is expected to also be a Duelist, which makes me think that she will be the last of these leaked upcoming characters to join the game. They typically add new character roles in a sort of rotation, so that the roster remains balanced. It sounds like she will exist as a two-form character as well, though not likely to function like Emma Frost or The Hulk. She will have Jean Grey abilities and Phoenix abilities. Psychic Explosion and Telekinetic Explosion seem to be Jean Grey's basic attacks, which will likely be mid-range. While there are no further details on what these abilities do, a confirmed leak suggests that she will have a skill capable of muting an enemy target, preventing them from casting abilities.

• Phoenix Shadow
• Phoenix Ray
• Phoenix Punishment
• Phoenix Wings Flying
• Phoenix Elegy
  

 

That's all I've got to share for Marvel Rivals news for now. It looks like we've got some interesting characters on the horizon. I really hope that the other leaked characters, like Gambit, are eventually confirmed. Some of the X-Men are among my favorite superheroes ever. I also really like that the developers have indicated that they hope to add unexpected characters to the roster, which would really expand the scope of who we could possibly see playable someday. One leaked character is Paste-Pot Pete, a little known glue-based supervillain. If they are serious about characters like this joining Rivals, I think we'll have a genuinely fascinating roster fill out over the months and years to come.
