What Are You Playing This Weekend?

I was a long time haunter of the Destructoid comment sections. They built a fun, dedicated community over there, often interacting in the comments of any random post that the staff put up. I've longed to recreate something like that with Netto's Game Room. So I'm going to just straight up steal one of my favorite community-driven things that Destructoid does every week. Each Saturday, they put up a "What Have You Been Playing?" post that gets hundreds of comments, all from the community sharing what they've been playing and replying to other people's comments. I always thought it was a fun way to interact with the other frequent commenters and see what kind of games people are spending their time with. So, yeah, I'm just gonna take that, and I hope the Netto's Game Room readers interact with it the same way. We're gonna try it.

For me, I've been trying to wrap up the Marvel Rivals battle pass, before Season 2 starts next week. I actually finally finished the battle pass a couple of days ago, but now I'm trying to wrap up the "Pick-Up Bundle" challenges. For those of you who play Rivals, if you're not opposed to microtransactions (I'm not for a free to play game like this), the Pick-Up Bundle costs $2.99 and it gives you a Venom skin, a spray, a nameplate, some chrono tokens and most notably a "costume coin," which is a new currency that allows you to exchange the coin for a hero skin from a pretty large, nice selection of skins. (I'm looking at you "Herald of Thunder" Thor skin and "Deadpool & Wolverine" Wolverine skin.) I recommend this bundle for its low price compared to what you actually get from it.

Other than wrapping up that content for Marvel Rivals, I want to circle back to one of my favorite modern platformers: Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom. I've been chipping away at this game since 2018 when it came out. For fans of the Wonder Boy franchise, I highly recommend this title. It's got a beautiful art style and awesome action-platformer gameplay that is centered around the title character shape-shifting between various animal forms, similarly to an earlier Wonder Boy title, The Dragon's Trap.

To briefly touch on my non-gaming hobbies and interests, if that's more of what you're interested in knowing or sharing, I just finished my giant Hellboy comic omnibus. I love Hellboy and really anything Mike Mignola creates. He's such a unique, creative voice in the comic world. Hellboy's dark historical fantasy, occult, magical vision of our world is one of my favorites to get lost in. There's a Japanese term that I think could easily be integrated into English, "tsundoku," which is the phenomenon of allowing your book backlog to pile-up without ever reading them. This seems to be a problem for everyone. I'm trying to whittle away at my tsundoku before it gets more out of control. I think the next book for me will be one of my two unread Warhammer 40k novels: The High Kahl's Oath or Leontus: Lord Solar.

So that's what I've been doing and what I plan to do. If you're remotely interested in helping us create a fun, interactive community here at Netto's Game Room, please comment what you've been up to down in the comments on this post. The internet, especially in the gaming world, has become such a horrible, toxic place lately. What we're trying to create here is a politics-free, lighthearted, "third place" of sorts for folks to get their gaming news and maybe make some friends as well. I hope to see you down below!
