Donkey Kong Bananza launches later this week on the 17th, but it seems this isn't the end of Nintendo's current plans for the series. Nintendo has now filed a joint copyright with Universal Pictures for "Untitled Donkey Kong Project; Motion picture."
This copyright was originally issued back in May, and does not officially confirm a movie is in the works, but it does show that both Nintendo and Universal are at least interested in the idea.
The news doesn't come as too much of a surprise, as The Super Mario Bros movie did very well in the box office, with Donkey Kong himself as a major character within the movie. Nintendo has also announced that a Legend of Zelda movie is in the works, but it will be live action and not animated like the previous Nintendo film. They have also confirmed that further Nintendo based movies are not out of the question, with Nintendo themselves also acquiring the studio that previously helped with Death Stranding to help achieve their goal of expanding into the film industry.
Even so, we will need to wait until Nintendo officially confirms the project, which could always happen after the release of the second Mario movie which will apparently be titled Super Mario World.
Just please ditch Seth Rogan as the voice. It's just the worst.
