Developer Steelkrill Studio has announced their Fatal Frame inspired horror game, which also happens to be based on a real-life cat, The 18th Attic will be launching on February 2nd, 2026 for PC.

You can head over to the Steam Page today to add the title to your wishlist, but to learn more, here is the overview and trailer as provided by the developer.

About:

The 18th Attic invites players into a nightmarish, looping attic where reality bends, ghosts linger unseen, and survival depends on perception. Armed with nothing but a Polaroid camera, players must hunt ghosts and uncover supernatural anomalies, entities that can only be revealed through the camera’s lens.

Key Features
  • Ghost-Photography Gameplay - Reveal spirits and anomalies using a Polaroid camera.

  • Sanity Through Comfort - Recover after encounters by petting your cat.

  • A Shape-Shifting Attic - Explore the mysterious 18th attic.

  • Analog Psychological Horror - Inspired by Fatal Frame and classic atmospheric horror.
As the environment slowly distorts and paranormal encounters intensify, the player’s sanity steadily drains, blurring the line between the real and the unreal. To escape the loop, players must identify anomalies hidden throughout the attic while avoiding hostile spirits that stalk from the shadows.

Providing a rare source of comfort in the horror is a loyal cat companion, whose presence plays a vital gameplay role. By petting the cat, players can restore their sanity, while its heightened senses warn of danger long before threats become visible.

With its atmospheric tension, camera-based ghost hunting, and psychological mechanics, The 18th Attic offers a haunting blend of fear, mystery, and emotional grounding.
