CD Project Red Announces a surprise remaster of The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt that is free for previous owners of the game, coming September 29th, final expansion Songs of the Past is also coming to Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — one of the best-selling and most critically acclaimed role-playing games of all time — returns with a brand-new expansion. Songs of the Past sees legendary monster slayer Geralt of Rivia travel to Letten, an idyllic land on the surface but with a dark secret hiding below. Equipped with unique mutagens and a new weapon, the chain, Geralt must overcome never-before-seen foes as he fights to overcome a long-dormant evil. Remastered — a free upgrade for existing The Witcher 3 owners on qualifying platforms — brings a slew of upgrades and enhancements to visuals, performance, gameplay, and more when it launches on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
The Witcher 3 is coming to two brand new platforms. A native version of Remastered will be released on Nintendo Switch 2, and through a new partnership between CD PROJEKT RED and Blizzard Entertainment, Battle.net — both on September 29.
All owners of The Witcher 3 can now play to two acclaimed expansions — Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine — at no additional cost.
During gamescom Opening Night Live, an announcement trailer for The Witcher 3 — Remastered revealed a slew of upgrades and enhancements to visuals, performance, gameplay, and more are coming to the acclaimed role-playing game. Players can experience the entire epic adventure with upgraded visuals, enhanced combat, improved traversal and movement, new witcher signs effects, revamped mount handling, enhanced monster behaviors, a skill tree revamp, transmogrification, expanded photo mode, new finishers, and much more. Remastered will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S — plus, for the first time, a native version of the game will be released on Nintendo Switch 2, with pre-orders available now.
This new version of the game features an array of improvements, bringing upgrades to visuals, gameplay, and more. It will be available as a free upgrade to all owners of the game on GOG, Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. It is also available for pre-purchase on Battle.net and Nintendo Switch 2 (and if you own The Witcher 3 on Nintendo Switch, you will be able to claim Remastered on Nintendo Switch 2 when it releases).CD PROJEKT RED is hosting guided presentations of Songs of the Past and the Remastered upgrade throughout gamescom in Hall 8.1 of the entertainment area. For those not attending, special REDstreamspresentations will take place throughout the event and be streamed on YouTube and Twitch. Each will dive into specific areas of Songs of the Past and Remastered.
As an additional surprise for players, all current owners of The Witcher 3 will today gain access to its original two expansions — Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine — for free. Announced on stage by gamescom Opening Night Live host Geoff Keighley, players yet to experience the critically acclaimed expansions can now do so ahead of Remastered’s launch in September.
The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt Remaster releases for free for all previous owners September 29th, Switch 1 owners will be able to claim a Switch 2 copy for free, and you can right now claim previous expansions for free. Songs of the Past is still in development, but you can Wishlist the game today on its Steam Page.
