As more information about the Switch 2 rolls out, new interesting features are now coming to light. Recently Marvelous Entertainment released a statement about the upcoming Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma, where they confirmed the Switch 2 version will work in both the Switch 2 and the Original Switch.
While this function will be up to the developer themselves, this at least means it will be an option available to them.
If they choose to do so, Switch 2 titles that have an Original Switch version will come with both versions on the game card, and which version of the game will load will depend on the hardware.
Here is the exact statement as released by Marvelous regarding the matter:
The Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is a red 64GB game card that includes, in full, the Nintendo Switch game and the Upgrade Pack.
There’s no need to download the full game: simply insert the card into either a Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2 console, and the correct version will launch automatically.
On another note, the Switch 2 version is roughly $10 more than the standard Switch release, as Switch 2 versions of games can be upgraded from the Switch version for an additional fee. In other words, this fee is already included in the retail price of the Switch 2 version.
If you would rather buy the Switch release for a cheaper price and upgrade later, or simply buy the Switch 2 version now for use on the Original Switch before obtaining the newer hardware, the decision is up to you! There is more than one option available here, and players can decide what makes the most sense for their situation.
