Picked up Project X Zone Today!

Well, it seems like I got extremely lucky today. Although I have been following Project X Zone since the moment the Japanese teaser website went up, I actually didn't preorder it when it was announced that it would be coming out in the west. Now don't get me wrong, I was really looking forward to the game, but with other releases such as Animal Crossing: New Leaf and The Last of Us also being released around the same time, I had to choose between them. In the end, Project X Zone was left out, with me planning on getting it a few days after its release. Turns out, the game was sort of limited stock, and sold out everywhere.

With that being said, I somehow managed to find a SINGLE copy at my local GameStop (which is about 15 minutes away), and it was a limited edition at that! Although the game isn't one of them deep TBS games, or have as good of a story as the original in the series, it is filled with fan service and so far I am enjoying it because of that. Although I currently have a The Last of Us review in the works, I may put it on hold for a bit just to review Project X Zone. It's one of them lesser known games, and its one of them rare releases that we normally don't get. Heck normally when I see "Banpresto" on a title screen, it's when I'm playing a Japanese import. Not used to seeing English text in these games!

So anyway, I plan on playing through as much of Project X Zone as I can over the next few days, so my daily updates may be a little bit smaller as well. Even so I won't be ignoring the blog completely, chances are I will still be posting my daily Animal Crossing pics over on our tumblr, and when I get the time I'll be posting another Daily Challenge as well. Although gaming news is slowing down after all that went down at E3, you can still expect to see daily updates.

Indie gaming: Starbound

Hello there my dear readers and welcome to another edition of Indie gaming!

Just wanted to tell you that I freaking love Terraria which is basically a 2d minecraft with a much more focus on exploring and defeating bosses, well the thing is that some of the people that created Terraria joined up with another team called Chuckle fish and is creating a game called Starbound which basically is Terraria in space and will be better in every single way then that game here's a video that tells you why:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQ5mt1pMuaI

I mean I love Terraria but this game is going to beat it if it delivers in all of its promises hands down. And for your info the Beta should be available this July (UPDATE: The game will not be released in July. Please read this blog post for more information) for those that already preordered the game for 15$ (you also get the whole soundtrack to download now) and yes readers I preordered it and will talk more about it as I play it in coming months so you will know from me if it actually is better then Terraria. For now the game will only be available for PC especially steam users but who knows if the game sells well then maybe it will get ported like Terraria got ported for Xbox 360/PS3 (and soon PSVita).

That is all from your indie news and if you like what you saw here you can follow the game on their official site and even preorder it there if you want to:

Naughty Dog Removing Sex Hotlines from The Last of Us

I'm not sure how many of you have found this for yourself, or heard about it, but let me explain. In the newest Naughty Dog game "The Last of Us," you can come across two numbers for "pest control" services; however there's something a little off about them. As you may know, when a fake number is used in a movie or game, 555 is used to start the number off. Well, these numbers are 800 numbers, and when called it turns out they are actual sex hotlines.

According to a GameSpot news article written by Eddie Makuch, this was a mistake. According to creative director Neil Druckmann "That was an artist's mistake. What happened was, they put some phone numbers in the game and then they thought they could just change the area code to 555, then it's invalid because it's what they do in movies. But I guess that doesn't work when you have a 1-800 in front of it." Druckmann also confirmed that they are working on the problem, and that it should be patched at a future date.

So, what do you guys think? Truth be told, this isn't the first time something like this happened with a video game; in fact it happened MANY years ago on the NES. In the game Who Framed Roger Rabbit, at one point you get a phone number which you are meant to call so you can move on with the game. Well, since the original service has been shut down, it too has been replaced with a sex line. It's not really something you would expect from a Nintendo game, but that's what happens when you decide to use real phone numbers in any form of media.

Sony Offers FW 4.45 Fix

Well FW 4.46 is now here which was released as a "fixed" version of the 4.45 FW that was bricking PlayStation 3 consoles on June 19th. Although anyone who didn't have an issue with 4.45 can download this version simply by updating as usual; Sony has also released a step by step fix for anyone who has a bricked console.

The Instructions from Sony's Official Website are as followed:

Step 1: Manually Download System Software

  1. You will need a USB Mass Storage device such as a USB flash drive with at least 168 MB of free space. If your PS3 is either CECHA00/CECHB00 series model, you can also use Memory Stick™, SD Memory Card, and CompactFlash®.
  2. Create a folder named “PS3” on the storage media or USB device.
  3. Within the PS3 folder, create a folder named "UPDATE".
  4. Using your computer, click the following hyperlink to begin downloading system software 4.46
  5. Download the update data from the webpage and save it in the "UPDATE" folder.
    • Location: Save in the “PS3” folder > “UPDATE” folder
    • File name: Save as file name “PS3UPDAT.PUP”
Note: If the data is not saved in the correct way, the PS3 will not recognize the update data. The folder name must be in all uppercase letters.

Step 2: Activate Safe Mode

  1. With the PS3 off (power light should be red), touch and hold the Power button, you will hear the 1st beep indicating that the PS3 is powering on.
  2. Continue to hold the power button, and after approximately 5 seconds you will hear a 2nd beep.
  3. Continue to hold the power button and after 5 more seconds you'll hear a 3rd beep, and system will power off (Power light goes red).
  4. Release power button.
  5. Touch and hold the Power button, you will hear the 1st beep, again for PS3 power on.
  6. Continue to hold and after approximately 5 seconds you will hear the 2nd beep for video reset.
  7. Continue to hold and after 5 seconds you will hear a quick double beep.  At that point release power button.
  8. If you succeeded in activating Safe Mode, you will see a message on screen saying, "Connect the controller using a USB cable and then press the PS button".
  9. Connect a controller to the PS3 with a USB cable.

Step 3: Manually Update PS3 Software

  1. Connect the storage media to PS3 system.
  2. Select [6 - System Update] and Press X.
    • Please note: Data and settings may be deleted if you choose any of the first (5) options. Please make sure to only choose option [6 - System Update].
  3. Press Start and Select at the same time.
  4. The PS3 system will restart and recognizes the update file in the storage media.
  5. Press right on the d-pad to scroll through the update description and user agreement.
  6. Press X to confirm the update.
  7. The system will now install the new system software and restart automatically upon completion.

If the above fix does not resolve issues with FW 4.45, and you still cannot access the XMB, you will have to send your console in for repairs. Please keep in mind that not all bricked consoles may have been the result of the 4.45 update, and it is possible that you have a hardware failure.

Although all of this should have never happened, it is good to know that Sony found the issue, and that they are doing everything they can to resolve it.

Netto's Daily Challenge: Sin & Punishment: Star Successor

Today's Daily Challenge is going to be yet another real challenge. The game chosen today was Sin & Punishment: Star Successor (S&P2) for the Nintendo Wii, and it really is one of them hidden gems. The Sin & Punishment series was never that well known in the West since the original wasn't even released here until the Wii came out with it's Virtual Console, and even then the sequel is simply one of them overlooked games. It's basically a 3D bullet hell/rail shooter that plays a lot like them old arcade games, and it is a game that really pushes you to get better at it. So with that in mind, today's Daily Challenge is one aimed at you hard core S&P players!

Netto's Daily Challenge: Sin & Punishment: Star Successor - Beat The Game on The Hardest Mode Without Dying!

Now I'm not going to lie, this one is hard! For this all you have to do is play through the entire game on the hardest mode without dying; although there is a bit of a twist. This does not have to be a straight run through of the entire game, you can simply go into stage select and play the levels one at a time if you wish. As long as you can beat each level without dying, the challenge still counts (this also means you can retry levels as many times as you want as well). Even so, don't let this fool you into thinking this challenge is easy!

Netto's Daily Challenge: Rampage World Tour

Today's Daily Challenge is an old school one, and one that brings back a lot of good memories for me. The game chosen was Rampage World Tour that came out back in 1997/1998 on the Nintendo 64, PlayStation 1, and SEGA Saturn. This game really is special to me, and was actually one of my favorite games back in the day. It was the game my parents bought me along with the N64 for my birthday, and it was the game I spent the next few years playing. I used to love playing Rampage on the old NES, so really, it was the perfect gift!

So anyway, before we go on; just how can you take this daily challenge if you don't have one of them older consoles? Well if you have Rampage Total Destruction for either the Nintendo GameCube, PlayStation 2, or Nintendo Wii, then you already have it. The game includes a port of the original Arcade Version of Rampage as well as a port of World Tour. On top of that the game is also up for download on PSN as a PSOne classic as well. Well, with that all being said, lets get to the challenge!

Netto's Daily Challenge: Rampage World Tour - Beat the game with over 7,000,00 Points!

For today we are going to be taking a step back. The past three challenges I posted are some of the hardest ones yet, but for Rampage I want you guys to just enjoy playing the game. Now don't get me wrong, there is still a challenge here, but it isn't anywhere near as hard. So anyway, today's challenge is for you to simply beat the game with over 7,000,000 points. That's it. There's a few different level paths you can take in the game (some may give more points than others), and there's quite a few ways to get high score bonuses as well. The idea is to take things slow, eat and destroy as much as possible, and rack up the points before the end.

Please keep in mind that you can in fact play the game on co-op mode. If you decide to play through it with friends, keep in mind that you will most likely not hit 7,000,000 points on your own, but feel free to add you and your friend's points together. It'll still count for the challenge.

PSN Down for Maintenance Today and FW 4.45 Fix Incoming!

Just wanted to remind everyone that PlayStation Network is down for Maintenance today until 4 PM PDT. Although you still will be able to play your games online (such as The Last of Us), you will not be able to access the store, or update any account information. In other news, Sony will be releasing a FW fix on June 27th. This update/fix comes after the issue with update 4.45 which was actually bricking consoles that downloaded it. The update was released on June 19th, and pulled a few hours later after Sony became aware of the problem.

If you were one of the unlucky people who downloaded 4.45 and now have a bricked console, Sony asks that you wait until the 27th for the fix to be released. More information will be posted at their official website when the time comes.

Netto's Daily Challenge: Shinobi (3DS)

Today's daily challenge is going to be yet another difficult one, but I know for a fact many people have already done this at some point in time. The game chosen for today, Shinobi for the 3DS, is actually one that is very special to me; not because I'm a fan, but because of how I received it. You see, Shinobi was actually one of the first games I received for free because of a Netto's Game Room review. Although we do in fact do everything here for free, most of our reviews are entered in contests and quite a few of them have in fact won. Shinobi was one of the games I was able to get for free thanks to winning one of these contests, and I will always  be grateful for that. So anyway, lets get on with the challenge!

Netto's Daily Challenge: Shinobi (3DS) - Beat the game on the Hardest Mode

Today's challenge is a simple one, but it is also very challenging. All I ask is that you guys pick up Shinobi, and play it from start to finish while on the hardest mode. Now if you've never played Shinobi for the 3DS this may sound easy, but let me assure you; IT IS NOT! Shinobi is all about being perfect, parrying every attack that comes your way, killing enemies with the biggest combo you can unleash, and its all about not getting hit so you can build your score up as high as possible. The game has a very steep learning curve, and is a challenge even on the easiest mode. If you want to hope to beat this game on the hardest setting, it'll take a lot of skill, and a LOT of practice. I'm sure many of you out there have reached this level of skill, but for you who have not; I'm challenging you to do it now!

Although I normally wouldn't say this in a daily challenge, if you haven't played Shinobi for the 3DS and you're a fan of high speed action/old school games, I really recommend picking it up. Now days you can actually get the thing for anywhere from $3.00 - $10.00, and it really is worth every penny.

Netto's Daily Challenge: Kirby Super Star Ultra

I'm sorry for the delay with today's daily challenge (I've been sort of tied up all day), but I want to make it up to you all with yet another challenging one! Today's game is Kirby Super Star Ultra for the Nintendo DS, and the challenge I've come up for it is going to be a complete nightmare! (In more ways that one.)

Netto's Daily Challenge: Kirby Super Star Ultra - Beat the True Arena Without Using Tomatoes or Copy Change Abilities (Unless Required)!

For today's Challenge you have to beat the True Arena in Kirby Super Star Ultra without eating any Tomatoes to heal, and without using any Copy Change Abilities! Although there are some specific fights that will give you a special ability, you are not allowed to use any "extra" ones (which you can choose from before going into the battle). The True Arena is a nightmare on its own, but take away the ability to heal or use Kirby's other abilities, and you've got yourself quite the challenge. If you're a die hard Kirby fan who's up for it, I wish you good luck! It is really going to suck.

Netto's Daily Challenge: Metal Gear Solid 3

Well we're back people! Welcome to Netto's Daily Challenge. If you're new to this blog, then let me explain. A few weeks ago we started a daily series where a game is chosen at random, and a challenge is posted for it. All you have to do is, well, take on the challenge! Really the whole thing is just for fun, and to give gamers an excuse to visit old games. So anyway, lets get to today's daily challenge.

Netto's Daily Challenge: Metal Gear Solid 3 - Beat the game on European Extreme!

Now this might just be the hardest challenge I've posted so far. For this one you need to either have Metal Gear Solid 3 Subsistence on the PlayStation 2, MGS3 HD on the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3, MGS3 HD on the Vita, or Metal Gear Solid 3D on the Nintendo 3DS. So, now what's so hard about finishing the game on European Extreme? Well, let me explain.

EE is the hardest mode in most Metal Gear Solid games, and they have some pretty crazy requirements. In Metal Gear Solid 3, you must complete the entire game with an extremely high difficulty, you cannot use rations, and above all, you CANNOT be spotted! The moment a guard sees you, you lose! Among Metal Gear Solid fans, EE in MGS3 is infamous, and one that is sure to give everyone out there a challenge. If you're up to taking this one, I wish you all good luck; you WILL need it this time! Trust me! Also, as always, feel free to leave a comment if you complete this challenge! After all you've gone through, you deserve the right to brag.

Animal Crossing: New Leaf - Review

Animal Crossing: New Leaf is the newest entry in the long running Animal Crossing series, and is the first (and most likely only one) to be released on the Nintendo 3DS. Originally announced back at E3 2010 as "Animal Crossing," New Leaf was an obvious improvement from the get go. Although this game is still in fact AC, it is quite a bit different form previous entries, and its content has been greatly expanded.

Now, before I go any farther let me explain something. Animal Crossing is not your typical game, and because of that this review will not be like other NGR reviews. The game does not have a plot, it runs COMPLETELY in real time, and there really is no goal; so, please keep that in mind as you read the following review. Now anyway, lets get started!

Moving to a New Town (Possibly Again):

The moment you start up Animal Crossing: New Leaf you will find yourself on a train. As you sit there and view the game from a first person point a view, a purple cat named "Rover" will walk over to you and sit down in the seat just across form your very own. At this moment Rover will introduce himself, and begin asking you a series of questions. He'll ask you about your name, how you feel about your name, and even ask you the name of your town. While it may not seem like it, these questions are actually very important, and they decide what you will look like in the game. There's a wide verity of different hair styles, as well as faces for you to start out with, and because of that you will have to watch what you say.

After you have answered Rover's questions, he will then ask you about the new town you are moving to; at this point you can name your town just like in past Animal Crossing games, but this time there is a twist. As soon as you name your town, Rover will pull out four maps and ask which of the "local" towns your town is. For the first time in Animal Crossing, instead of just being given a randomly generated town, you actually get to pick from one of the four randomly generated designs. However; this isn't all that is different this time around.

This time around towns are actually on plateaus meaning that the town is leveled with slopes that lead down cliffs to the beach area. While in past Animal Crossing games there were in fact split levels, this time the lower section of town is nothing but a beach, and the beach even wraps around the town. Some towns have a beach that goes down the left side, while other towns have one that go to the right. This really doesn't change anything, so feel free to pick whichever you like best.

On top of all of that, there are a few other changes you will notice as well if you have played previous entries in the series. Now the shop, clothing store, as well as the museum have been moved out of town, and put into a new area just north of town. This frees up space to do as you wish with your town, and also improves on the city aspect that was introduced in the Wii release called "City Folk." Although these buildings have been moved, a brand new store has been added to the town; which I will cover a little later on.

Once you have answered all of Rover's questions, named your town, and picked the town layout, you will arrive at your destination.

Becoming the Mayor:

The moment you step off of the train and walk out of the train station, some of the animals from town will be there to greet you; yes, you heard me right, animals. If you didn't know, Animal Crossing is a game where you are the only human in town, while everyone else is a human like animal, but this time around they all look different. In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, the humans have been made taller, and the animals have been made taller or shorter based on whatever race they are. For example, while elephants will be taller than most, frogs will be pretty short. This helps add scale to the world, but it also opens up new features as well.

Well, after the animals greet you and welcome you to the town, you find out something shocking. It turns out you aren't just moving to this town, you are now going to be the mayor of the town! At that moment you are pulled to town hall by a little dog, and the game's tutorial will begin. You will learn to explore the town, learn about talking to villagers, learn about going on "quests" for them (which normally involves taking an item to someone), and you will also learn about how to be a mayor. During this section of the game, things do move quite slow, but it helps you get up to speed. If you have never played an Animal Crossing game before this part will be very useful, but long time fans may just want to rush through it as fast as possible. I mean how many times do you need to be taught to catch fish?

Your House:

When you first become mayor, you will be asked where you want to place your house. Unlike in other games of the series where there were predetermined areas for your house to be located, this time around you can build it ANYWHERE you want; as long as it meets a few requirements. As long as your house isn't too close to a river, cliff, on sidewalks, or on the beach, you can build it right where you are standing. This is actually how most of the game will play out from now on, so you better get used to deciding where to put things. Once you decide where to put your house, a small tent will be built in place of it. It'll be one full day before you actually get your house, and you will have to pay a fee if you want to pay it off and upgrade (or do anything else to your house).

In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Tom Nook (who used to run the store) has finally broken off into the real estate market, and he can now provide quite a few expansions and upgrades for your home. After your house is built and the tent is replaced, you can start paying back your loan, and start upgrading. Whenever you pay off your loan, Nook will ask you if you would like to expand your room size (all rooms can now be expanded on an 8x8 grid) or add new rooms (you can build three extra rooms on the main floor, an upstairs, and a basement), or you can also pay him to change the outside of your house as well. There are different themes your house's outside can take on now, you can change the mail box out front, or you can even change the concrete or fence that surrounds it. This allows you to not only completely customize the inside of your house, but the outside as well; however that isn't all that is new!

Up until now, there has always been a limit to how far you could turn the camera in your house, and because of that you really couldn't show off all of your furniture as you might have liked to. For example, you might have a really cool picture or statue to show off, but there might only be room at the south end of the room. This is a problem because you could not turn the camera angle around to see it, which meant you would have to turn the actual picture around to face the "wall" so YOU could see it. While this solved the problem of not being able to see it, it doesn't quite look right, and the HR would give you lower points for it (yes, your house is graded in Animal Crossing, and prizes can be earned by getting a high score). Well, that is no longer an issue.

For the first time in Animal Crossing history, you can now turn the camera in a full 360 degrees while in most buildings! Now you can put cool pieces of furniture against the southern wall without having to worry about not seeing it, and to top it off, you can even hang objects on the wall now! From pictures, to clocks, to shelves, to just about anything else you might want on a wall; you can now do it! To go along with all of that, you can also change the color of some objects, or even use your own custom patterns/textures on them as well. This time around you truly can customize your house how you want it, and you no longer have to use "stock" objects like everyone else.

Another improvement for houses (and buildings in general) is the fact that when you play online, all four players can now enter a single area. This was an issue in past games since the limit was two, and that would often exclude the other visitors in your town.

The City:

As I said before, the city that was introduced in City Folk has made a return (somewhat), but this time around it has been greatly improved. In City Folk the city was an offline only area, meaning that you could not access it when you were playing online; however now the city is actually a part of your town, so anyone can enter it at anytime. Also unlike in City Folk, the city has now been greatly expanded, and it will begin growing from the moment you start the game. Here are just some of the features you will be able to find there as you continue to play.

The Store -

Now that Nook no longer is running his shop, his nephews have come to take it over. Just like in past Animal Crossing games the store will start out quite small, but it will upgrade over time. By spending cash, and waiting so many days, the store will once in awhile be remodeled which will greatly improve their selection. While at first they only carry a few objects, soon they will be carrying many different types of furniture, different tools, and even special items like musical paper to mail your friends with.

The Garden Store -

Unlike in past games, the Garden Shop is now its own store. Here you will be able to buy flowers, axes, watering cans, and even trees for you to plant in your town. Over time their selection will grow as well, and you will even be able to unlock some special tools.

Able Sisters -

Able Sisters is a clothing store, but it servers quite a few purposes. While the main room of the shop is where you can buy shirts, and pants, the second room is where you will be able to buy hats, wigs, and other accessories such as glasses. Although, these are only two of reasons to visit Able Sisters. Here you can also make your own designs to use around town (such as town flags, your furniture at home, or even on the ground as custom tiles), or you can even design your own shirts/dresses/hats/umbrellas and put them up on display. These are called "Pro Designs," and they allow you to customize just about everything about each shirt, dress, or hat. You can customize their front, their back, and even each sleeve (that is if you decide to even have sleeves on them), and you can even share them in the form of QR codes.

The new major feature that was added to Able Sisters is the ability to turn your designs into QR codes to share with the world. By using Nintendo's official upload site, you can create your QR codes, upload them to Twitter, Tumblr, or Facebook, and then share them with all your friends online. You can also find other people's works as well, and scan them into your game for future use. Although there are only so many slots for designs to be saved on your person, you can also use Able Sisters to save other patterns in storage as well.

Shampoodle -

Shampoodle is the hair salon in the Animal Crossing world. It was originally added in for Wild World on the DS (up until then your character always wore a hat), and it allows you to change your hair style and color as well as your eye color. Whenever you go into Shampoodle, you will be asked a series of questions just like when you started up the game, and this will decide your hair style. Although you can only change your hair once a day, you can change it as many times as you want so it really doesn't matter if you mess up or not. As for the eyes, it works the very same way. You will be asked a few questions about what you might want your eye color to be, but its a little bit easier to tell what color it'll be. These questions involve things such as the trees and the ocean, so if you want brown eyes all you have to do is talk about trees, and then their trunks; it is basically common sense.

Kicks -

Kicks is a newly added store where you can buy shoes as well as socks for your characters. Since characters are now taller in New Leaf, your socks can be clearly seen (depending on what type of pants you have on), and you can even choose to wear shoes or socks or not.

Dream Suite -

The Dream Suite is another new feature introduced, and it allows you to visit random towns in a "Dream World." By going into the Dream Suite, you can upload a virtual world of your town, or you can enter other virtual worlds as well. These worlds are not real, and changes you make in them will not be saved; the only thing that can be saved is the patterns/designs that person may have up for trade. If allowed, you can take their designs back to your town if you wish.

To visit towns, you can either search for them, go to a random one, or if you know an address you can enter one in yourself (For Example: 4400-2136-8337 will take you to my town Bruhl).

Club lol -

Club "lol" is yet another new addition to Animal Crossing, and it serves three purposes. During the day you can go to Club lol to earn emotions for your character to use (this time around you can actually learn them ALL instead of being limited to a few), the dog K.K. will show up as a DJ at night, and on Saturday you can show up at night to request a song from K.K. that you can then bring back to your house to play. Although normally K.K. will just play a random song, you can request one if you know the name of it.

Museum -

Like Nook's shop, and Able Sisters, the Museum has also been moved from the town to the city section. At the Museum you can donate fish you've caught, bugs you've caught, you can donate dinosaur bones you dug up in town, or you can also donate artwork such as paintings as well. For the most part the Museum is just for show, but now it does have a few new features as well. If you donate enough and meet set requirements, the Museum can now be updated to a second floor. There you can buy special objects and tools, as well as rent out rooms to show off your own exhibits.

Other -

There are other features that can be unlocked in the City as well, as well as a street pass area. In this section of the city, houses from users you have street passed will show up, and you can even go in their houses to get new items for your own.

New in Town and Town Hall:

Although the City is where you will find a lot of the new features, the town itself has some new aspects as well. A lot of these aspects are ones that you can actually control, but not all of them are.

Re-Tail Shop -

The Re-Tail shop is a newly added shop located in town. Here you can sell items just like at Nook's store, or you can put your own items up for sale for the animals to buy, or for out of town visitors. To put it simple, the Re-Tail shop is basically a "Player Shop," and that is its main purpose; however it does have a few other features as well. Each day the Re-Tail shop will be buying different items at a high price, so it can be used to make money faster as well. For example one day it may be buying shirts at a higher price, but another day it might be buying specific fish at a higher price. Each day its daily special is picked at random, so there is really no way to tell what they will be buying next.

The third main feature of the Re-Tail shop is to change your furniture. You can change the color of furniture, or you can even use special gems, found by breaking rocks around town, to give them special color effects.

Town Ordinances -

Town Ordinances are a new feature added into town hall. By paying 20,000 bells you can set the town ordinance to whatever fits your style. For example, if you like to play the game early in the morning, you can set it to early bird so shops will open sooner; however if you play at night, you can set it to night owl to keep them open longer. There are other ordinances as well (one that keeps flowers from dying and one that increases sales prices), and it is completely up to you to decide which one you want to use. It's just another way to make the town fit your style.

Public Work Projects -

Another new, and MAJOR, feature in New Leaf is the Public Work Projects you can take on. Since you are mayor it is up to you to decide what is built in town, and where to build it. You can build more bridges, fountains, wells, street lights, a cafe, a police station, park benches, a camp ground, and much much more. All you have to do is take on the project, and come up with the money to build it.

The Island:

In the original Animal Crossing you could visit an island which had coconuts you could bring back to plant and grow in your town, as well as an extra villager for you to get to know. Although this island really didn't add too much to the game, it was a nice little extra, and it was one of the few uses for the Game Boy Advance link cable. Well, after two games, Nintendo has brought the Island back, and it is better than ever!

The Island in Animal Crossing: New Leaf is quite a lot different from the Island in the original game. Here you can find more types of island specific fruit to bring back to your town, and you can also play mini games alone, with friends, or even with random players. These mini games range from bug catching games, to fishing, to hide and go seek, to even smacking a RC car over the head with a hammer. Depending on how well you do in these mini games, you will then earn medals, and you can then spend these medals on island exclusive prizes. Among these prizes is the diving suit which actually allows you to go swimming, as well as dive for undersea life.

Fishing, Bug Catching, and Diving:

The final main feature in Animal Crossing: New Leaf is the fishing, bug catching, and diving system. Just like in past games bugs and fish will show up in the water, and you can catch them. Different types of both will show up during different times of the year, and sometimes you have to get a bit creative when it comes to catching them. For example some bugs may show up on flowers but fly away as you get close to them, and some fish may only show up at night or when it is raining. To catch every type of bug, fish, and sea creature (found from diving as mentioned above) you will have to really do your research, and look for any sign that may point you in their way. (Don't forget, Mole Crickets live underground, so that means you'll have to listen for their cry and dig in the correct spot!)

To catch bugs you'll need a bug net, and you have two ways of going about using it. You can either just swing the net down as fast as possible, or you can hold it above your head and creep toward your target. As for fishing, fish will always show up as shadows, and all you have to do is cast your line out in front of it, and pull the fish in the moment it takes the bait. Although you cannot catch undersea life with a fishing pole, you can simply use a wet suit to dive under water, and run into the shadow to catch them; it's as simple as that.

Other Features:

The world of Animal Crossing is an always expanding world, and there are a few other features you have to keep in mind. First of all, your grass can actually die. Running on grass will slowly kill it, and over time dirt paths can form. To fix this problem you can actually plant flowers, and water said flowers to keep them healthy and help grow back the grass. On top of that, flowers can be bread as well. By putting two flowers of the same type next to each other, but with different colors, you can create a hybrid of said flower. Although by using basic Biology you will be able to create specific colors (by knowing which genes are dominate and which are recessive), all it really takes is putting flowers next to each other.

Trees and bushes can be grown in game as well. By burring fruit, or planting bushes from the island, you can create your own orchards of fruit or create paths to help structure your town. While it does take quite a few days for plants to grow, in the long run the wait always does pay off.

Holidays and Events:

As I've said many times already, Animal Crossing is an always expanding world, and it even has holidays and special events. During these holidays you will be able to receive special holiday related items, or even unlock special prizes as well. If you truly want to see everything this game has to offer, you will have to play it for a full year; if not longer.

Online and Other Towns:

Although I'm sure you've already figured it out based on what I've been saying; Animal Crossing: New Leaf features an online mode. With this mode you can either invite up to three other people to your town, or you can visit your friend's towns as well. Really one of the major aspects of Animal Crossing is the fact that it is sort of a social game. While the original game simulated a social world with its animals, now days it truly is one. You visit your friends, hang out, take part in town events with them, stay up late hours into the night talking, and basically just flat out have fun. You get to show off your town and hard work to them, and you can even help others build their town as well.

How you play the game online is up to you, and it is completely up to you if you even want to use this part of the game. Although I would like to say that the game is a LOT better when playing with friends; I strongly recommend it.

The Good and the Bad:

Well, here's the truth. Animal Crossing has no good and has no bad points; it all depends on you. The simple fact is, the game is LOADED with content, and is built to last you for MANY years without ever ending. In fact, if you wanted to "100%" the game, it would take quite a few years, and a lot of luck to find every single item. Nintendo has always made Animal Crossing a game to last, and the same can be said for New Leaf. This time around the game has been greatly expanded however, and because of that it could easily last twice as long as earlier entries in the series.

The only bad thing about the game is the fact that it isn't for everyone. Not everyone likes games that runs on real time, and some people prefer to actually have a set goal other than building a town and house. If you are one of these types of people, I recommend that you at least give the game a try (possibly an early entry in the series), but there's also a pretty good chance you won't like it. That's really the only down side to this series, and that is something that will never change.

As for everyone else, Animal Crossing: New Leaf truly is a great game, and it is sure to be a must have for all Nintendo 3DS owners. The art style is nice, the music is great, the taller character's are a welcomed change, the new buildings and areas are a great addition, and the fact that you can actually build your town is more than any AC fan could have hoped for! The game is a very solid entry in the series, and after playing it you will NEVER want to go back!

I give Animal Crossing: New Leaf for the Nintendo 3DS a perfect 10/10!

The Last of Us Review Incoming

Just wanted to update you guys on what has been going on lately. Although I originally planned on bringing back the daily challenges today, they have been pushed back to the 21st with good reason. A review of The Last of Us is now going into the works, and I wanted to take a day or so to play the game. That way I can give the game a fair rating, look for detail I may have missed, and try out the harder modes as well. While I already have a pretty good idea of what I'm going to rate it, it'll be just a little while longer before my opinion is set in stone.

As you know, I try to review games based on how good the game itself is, and try to remain as unbiased as possible. To do that I have to take a lot of facts into consideration, and truly see if this game deserves the rating I have decided on. If I find my rating was unfair or bias in anyway, I will change it.

So anyway, that is what is going on. I plan on getting The Last of Us review up as soon as possible, so I'm going to be taking the next day off from the blog to work on it. I hope you guys understand.

Microsoft Changes their mind!

Well it turns out the fan feedback has gotten Mircosoft to reconsider their Xbox One policies. According to a new announcement, the Xbox One will no longer require a once every 24 hour check in to play your games offline, and you will now be able to share your games freely.

Directly from the Official Xbox Blog:

Last week at E3, the excitement, creativity and future of our industry was on display for a global audience.
For us, the future comes in the form of Xbox One, a system designed to be the best place to play games this year and for many years to come. As is our heritage with Xbox, we designed a system that could take full advantage of advances in technology in order to deliver a breakthrough in game play and entertainment. We imagined a new set of benefits such as easier roaming, family sharing, and new ways to try and buy games. We believe in the benefits of a connected, digital future.
Since unveiling our plans for Xbox One, my team and I have heard directly from many of you, read your comments and listened to your feedback. I would like to take the opportunity today to thank you for your assistance in helping us to reshape the future of Xbox One.
You told us how much you loved the flexibility you have today with games delivered on disc. The ability to lend, share, and resell these games at your discretion is of incredible importance to you. Also important to you is the freedom to play offline, for any length of time, anywhere in the world.
So, today I am announcing the following changes to Xbox One and how you can play, share, lend, and resell your games exactly as you do today on Xbox 360. Here is what that means:

  • An internet connection will not be required to play offline Xbox One games – After a one-time system set-up with a new Xbox One, you can play any disc based game without ever connecting online again. There is no 24 hour connection requirement and you can take your Xbox One anywhere you want and play your games, just like on Xbox 360.

  • Trade-in, lend, resell, gift, and rent disc based games just like you do today – There will be no limitations to using and sharing games, it will work just as it does today on Xbox 360.
In addition to buying a disc from a retailer, you can also download games from Xbox Live on day of release. If you choose to download your games, you will be able to play them offline just like you do today. Xbox One games will be playable on any Xbox One console -- there will be no regional restrictions.

These changes will impact some of the scenarios we previously announced for Xbox One. The sharing of games will work as it does today, you will simply share the disc. Downloaded titles cannot be shared or resold. Also, similar to today, playing disc based games will require that the disc be in the tray.

We appreciate your passion, support and willingness to challenge the assumptions of digital licensing and connectivity. While we believe that the majority of people will play games online and access the cloud for both games and entertainment, we will give consumers the choice of both physical and digital content. We have listened and we have heard loud and clear from your feedback that you want the best of both worlds.

Thank you again for your candid feedback. Our team remains committed to listening, taking feedback and delivering a great product for you later this year.

So as you can see, sometimes complaining does pay off!

Visited Akia Village Today

So, how many of you have heard of the infamous Akia Village? Well, if you haven't, let me explain. Akia Village is a fan created town in Animal Crossing which can be accessed in the Dream World if you have the code. That is how I was able to access this world for myself, and explore its mystery.

It's a Japanese town that tells the story of a little girl, and her happy family. This little girl loves her mom and dad, and they live in a nice big house. However; this happiness does not last. Soon after the little girl's birthday, things begin to change.

Sadly her dad passes away for "some reason," and both the little girl and her mom are sent into depression as something new haunts their life. Their once happy life had quickly came to an end, and the little girl slowly began to lose her mind. As you walk through the village, the little girl will show up a few times, always saying the same thing. "I love my mom." Although, things may seem okay at first, each time you talk to her, her speech gets a little more twisted. Although she continues to say "I love my mom," she begins mixing alphabets together, and it becomes clear that she is slowly losing it.

After her mother kills herself, the little girl's mind is shattered. She has lost everything in her life, and her mental state begins to weaken. Her home quickly changes from the once bright and warm place, into a cold room of utter madness. Why did things end up this way?

She has been left all alone in the world, and she now feels abandoned. The poor girl continues to live her lonely life, with her only friend in the world being the one who caused it all; all of her pain and suffering.

The doll. The doll was behind it all. It was given to the little girl on her birthday, and soon came to life. After seeing how much love the little girl's parents were given her, it became filled with hatred for her. Before the family knew it, the doll raised an axe, and began its rampage.

Not only has this little girl's entire world change, her town has as well. The doll had ruined everything. What started out as wonderful town filled with flowers, is now a wasteland.

And that my friends sums up my entire visit in the small village of Akia! It's a sad and depressing place, but I recommend checking it out as soon as possible. It was actually a pretty well thought out story, and you can really tell that the creator put a lot of hard work into making it. The way the town is set up, it will guide you from house to house, with little to no room to break off from the beaten path. Even if you don't understand Japanese, just remember that all she says is "I love my mom" and you'll be able to understand the rest just fine.

On top of that, there is quite a bit more story for you to discover. I won't ruin it for you, but I recommend searching every inch of the town to see what you can find. I recommend swimming to the beach myself.

To visit the town just enter the following code: 2600-0218-7298

Animal Crossing: New Leaf - Welcome to Bruhl!

Well for the past few days I've been posting Animal Crossing: New Leaf related posts, but today's post is something you can actually interact with! I've you've unlocked the ability to enter "Dreams" in Animal Crossing, you can now visit Bruhl; my (Netto) very own town! Simply enter in the following code, and let your dreams take you away!

The code is 4400-2136-8337. Once you enter this code, you will enter a virtual version of Bruhl where you will be free to do whatever you want. Just keep in mind that this is a virtual town, so none of the changes you make to it will be saved, and I will not be able to see you interacting with it either. The moment you leave the world, everything will be reset, and the town will remain as it once was.

Also while you're there, feel free to take a copy of one of our Netto's Game Room shirts as well!

On a side note, I would also like to announce that "Netto's Daily Challenges" will be returning very soon! You can expect to see them back on either the 20th or 21st of this month.

Animal Crossing: New Leaf - Fast and Easy Cash

Figured I'd go ahead and share my secret with the world, but I'm sure some of you have already figured it out. The following is a very fast and easy trick to make millions of bells in just a few hours. For this trick you will be selling a few bugs, and each set will net you a payout somewhere along the lines of this.

image

Now to do this trick you must have:

1. The island
2. It must be after 7 PM

Once both of these conditions are met, go to the Island and do as I tell you.

1. Take the axe from the box, as well as a net and a fishing rod if you want.

2. Cut down all of the trees besides the palm trees on the left/right sides of the island (yes cut down the ones at the south).

3. Destroy all flowers and plants, this will prevent more bugs from spawning.

4. Keep checking the trees on the left and right side for beetles.

5. If the beetles don't spawn, walk around the island and chase off any other bug that may preventing them from spawning.

6. Load up on any type of beetle (try to go for the gold ones), and return home.

With a single trip back from the island (which should take around 20 minutes or even less), you should net yourself around 400-500k. A few trips later you'll be rich, your house will be paid off, and all of the buildings will be built in your town!

Note: Make sure you check the shells on the beach for hermit crabs. They will spawn quite often, and keep the beetles from showing up.

Animal Crossing: New Leaf - Summer NGR Shirt

I meant to release this earlier with my last post, but I just didn't have time to get the images uploaded. Anyway, if you have the QR Reader in AC:NL, feel free to use our Kingdom Hearts themed shirt!

To use this design, simply point your 3DS at the QR code after using the QR Machine in Able Sisters. After you scan the first design the game will automatically ask you to scan for the second, third, and finally forth. Once all four QR codes are scanned, the shirt will be added to your designs for use at anytime.

Animal Crossing: New Leaf - Netto's Game Room KH Shirt

As some of you may know, for the past week I've been addicted to Animal Crossing: New Leaf. I've been playing it daily, and I plan to continue playing it for quite awhile. Now I know for a fact that I'm not the only one out there in this boat, so I wanted to share a little something with all of you other players out there! Now that it has been almost a week since the game came out, many of you most likely have either unlocked or are getting close to unlocking the QR Machine. By talking to Sable every day, you can slowly become friends with here, and this will unlock the ability to read QR codes and create them.

Today I wanted to share a Netto's Game Room shirt that has a Kingdom Hearts theme, which was made in honor of the Kingdom Hearts III announcement. (Well that and because I like Kingdom Hearts). To use this shirt, simply walk up to the QR Machine, select scan, and point your 3DS at the screen. Scan the images in order (1-4), and then the shirt will be downloaded into your game.

As you can see, the shirt has the Nobody Symbol on the front, the Kingdom Hearts Crown on the back, "NETTO" is written down the right arm, and "GR" is written on the bottom back. Also keep in mind that the shirt will look slightly different in the game. The above images do not take lightning or shading into account, nor does it take screen size into consideration.

On top of that, as a bonus, here's a few screen shots of my town as well as what I've been doing lately in game!

Club LOL

Opened the Cafe

Went to the Island with friends

Redid parts of my town

Caught Sharks

And remodeled the outside of the Cafe

As you can see, I've been quite busy with the game, and hopefully soon I can review it; however "soon" may actually be quite awhile. While I've unlocked the second version of Nook's, opened the hair shop, the shoe shop, the garden shop, Club LOL, the Cafe, and the upstairs to the museum; I am not even half way done. I currently only have three rooms in my house (two of which are still at their smallest size), I still have many bugs, fish, and sea creatures to find, I maybe only have around 2% of the catalog finished, I have yet to see holiday events, and there is just so much more left that I have to do. I don't want to jump into reviewing this game until I've seen enough of it to give it a fair rating; so it will be quite awhile.
