Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag

Today Ubisoft has finally given us the first look at the next entry in the Assassin's Creed series, and it is actually quite shocking! Since Assassin's Creed II had a few sequels of its own (which became known as the "Ezio Trilogy") many people assumed that Assassin's Creed III would go down the same path; however it seems that may not be true (at least not in same way)! Check out the following photo Ubisoft uploaded to their Google + page today!

It turns out the next game is going to be titled "Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag" and it will be using a pirate theme! As of right now details are pretty limited, and we really don't know who the Assassin is, but there are two possibilities. The first possibility is that we will be seeing a brand new Assassin who may or may not be related to Desmond, and the second possibility is that the game will follow Connor's life after the revolution. Assassin's Creed III did focus a lot on the sea, so really I wouldn't be too shocked if the latter turned out to be the case, but we really won't know for sure until Ubisoft announces more.

According to Ubisoft's Google + post, they "will be announcing all the details of Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag on Monday March 4 at 6pm CET. Stay tuned for more."

UPDATE:

It turns out that the main character of Assassin's Creed IV will be Edward, Connor's grandfather. Apparently Ubisoft had been planning on doing a "Kenway" story arc for some time now, and Edward's story is the next part of that story arc.

Small post about a neat little site

http://tane.us/ac/

This is a little browser-based widget I found that plays Animal Crossing music (via YouTube) to the time of day. So, for example, if it's 1 PM, it'll play the appropriate theme from the game. The music loops and automatically changes to each hour. The background also changes colors to match the time of day, and you can even switch soundtracks between the original, Wild World/City Folk and the upcoming New Leaf. I find it to be a very pleasant and handy way to keep track of time, as well as pass time when a day gets slow.

Kinda wish it'd play the town tune every hour, though...

Deus Ex: Human Defiance - Possible Sequel?

According to GameStop's Eddie Makuch, Square Enix has filed a trademark for something called "Deus Ex: Human Defiance." Although that is really all we know about it, there's a pretty good chance that it'll be a sequel to 2011's Deus Ex: Human Revolution! So, anyway, what would you guys like to see in this sequel if it is in fact a sequel?

If you haven't played the series before, Deus Ex is a cyber punk styled game that takes place far into the future where people are connected to the net, and they have augmented their bodies as well. The games are first person action RPGs, and they all give you the freedom to do just about ANYTHING you want! There's really no limits on how to deal with something, and the entire game is based around you putting together your own plans, and then following through with them. Really the gameplay is kind of hard to explain in words, but if you've played the game for yourself; you'll know exactly what I'm talking about! Still, what about the sequel?

Well if Human Defiance is in fact a sequel to Human Revolution, I'm kind of wondering just how this will play out. You see Human Revolution was actually a prequel to the original Deus Ex games which came out many years ago in the early 2000s, and because of that the game sort of sets up the earlier games. I mean since it is a prequel you can play it as the "first" game in the series, but most fans already know what happens next. So, how would Human Defiance fit into things?

Right now I'm kind of wondering if they will be rebooting the series. Without giving too much away about Human Revolution, the ending of it flat out shows something that leads up to the events of the first game, but because of that I'm sure some fans will be thinking that it ended in a cliff hanger. It is very possible that Human Defiance will either be a remake of that first game, or it is also possible that it will take place during a different point of time as a completely new game. But, what do you guys think? Think it'll be a sequel to Human Revolution? Think it'll be a remake of the original Deus Ex? Or could it be something COMPLETELY different? Feel free to leave your comments below!

UPDATE:

It turns out "Deus Ex: Human Defiance" is the name of the upcoming Deus Ex live action movie, but that doesn't mean there won't be a game sequel as well! On 3/5/2013, a domain for "Deus Ex: The Fall" was registered. Although nothing has been confirmed, it seems that it will in fact be a follow up to Human Revolution.

Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD Coming to the West!

Well I've got some good news for you Kingdom Hearts fans out there! I'm sure most of you have already read Leaf's post about Kingdom Hearts X, but did you also know that Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD will be coming to the west as well? Yep that's right! The game will be released next fall in both the US and EU regions, and will be a PlayStation 3 exclusive!

The game features both Kingdom Hearts 1 and Re: Chain of Memories remastered in HD, but with some new features as well. Although Re: Chain of Memories will be mostly unchanged, Kingdom Hearts 1 is getting a massive update, and will include quite a few new features! First of all the game will actually be the Final Mix version of Kingdom Hearts which was only released in Japan. This means the game will have new boss battles, new cutscenes, as well as rerecorded voice work; however that isn't all! Kingdom Hearts 1 has also been updated to the Kingdom Hearts 2 standards, meaning the game will feature the Kingdom Hearts 2 style of play, and camera control! Reaction commands have been added into the game, and the core gameplay has been improved to keep up with today's standards.

On top of all of that, Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days will also be included in the form of a MOVIE which will actually be around 3 hours long (2:50 to be exact). Although this isn't the HD remake of the game some fans may have hoped for, it is a retelling of the game with brand new scenes to deepen the story. The games will also support trophies (which is a standard for PlayStation 3 games now days) as well.

Although we don't have an official release date for the game (as I said before), we do know that the game will be coming out fall of 2013, with Kingdom Hearts 2.5 HD most likely coming out next year.

Metal Gear Rising - Review

Back in 2009 Kojima announced a brand new entry in the Metal Gear Solid series; however unlike past Metal Gear Solid games, this one was going to be different! The game was going to be called "Metal Gear Solid: Rising," and it was going to focus on the main character from Metal Gear Solid 2 named Raiden. While Raiden was a normal human back in MGS2, he was also a pretty unpopular character, and became one of the most hated characters out there due to the trick Kojima pulled. You see, when Metal Gear Solid 2 was first coming out everyone was expecting to play as the main character named "Solid Snake;" however when people actually got they game they learned that it was all a lie. Snake was not the main character, a new guy named Raiden was in his place, and no one was happy.

Although Kojima "made up" with his fans by releasing Metal Gear Solid 3, the character of Raiden has always been one of them characters that a lot of people hold a grudge against; a lot of people can't forgive Kojima for the bait and switch trick he used, and a lot of people just didn't care for his character in general. Well when Metal Gear Solid 4 finally came around, Raiden made his return, and he was completely changed. Now as a cyborg ninja, Raiden took on the role of a sort of "action hero" and became a much darker character in general. Throughout the game you could see some pretty impressive action cutscenes with Raiden fighting giant mechs, and even his rival from MGS2, but unlike in Metal Gear Solid 2 he actually stayed as a supporting character. Not once did you play as Raiden, and not once did he really have any impact on MGS4's gameplay.... And that is why Metal Gear Rising was made.

When Kojima went to work on his next game project with his brand new team, he decided to give them the character of Raiden to work with. Apparently Kojima felt that his team wasn't quite up for Metal Gear Solid 5, and he wanted to give them a game they could create without him being there every step of the way. By giving them Raiden he felt that they would have much more freedom to do whatever they wanted, and he was also hoping to create a game that felt like Raiden's cutscenes in MGS4. Well, the truth is, this project flat out failed. According to Kojima his team was unable to mix Raiden's action gameplay with the stealth mechanics of Metal Gear Solid, and the project was called off. That is until Kojima contacted Platinum games to take over the project!

Metal Gear Rising is the final result of all the years of planning and working on Metal Gear Solid: Rising. The game's story was changed from taking place between MGS2 and 3 to taking place after MGS4, and it was changed from a stealth game into a pure action experience!  But, is this really a good thing? Is it okay for another company to develop a Metal Gear game? Is this game up to Platinum's action game standards? What about the story? Does it have that amazing Metal Gear Solid style of story telling? Well, how about we find out?

The Story of Rising:

Metal Gear Rising picks up four years after the end of Metal Gear Solid 4 and the fall of the Patriots. The Patriots were a series of AIs created to control the entire world, including the media and even the war economy. Back then everyone's bodies were filled with nanomachines, and the Patriots even controlled what guns and weapons each soldier could use. To put it simply, the world was completely controlled by the Patriots, and nothing would happen without them allowing it. Well, that system is no more, and the world is once again free of their control; however it seems that not everything is as peaceful as one might have opened. War is on the rise once again, soldiers and cops have begun using cyborg bodies to give themselves the edge on the battlefield, and PMCs are once again common.

At the start of Metal Gear Rising we learn that our hero Raiden is working for a PMC (Private Military Company) called "Maverick," and he has been tasked with protecting the president of Africa. Although protecting him should have been an easy job, especially for a cyborg, things quickly take a turn for the worst when another PMC attacks them. Although Raiden did the best he could to save the president, sadly he was killed, and Raiden ended up losing his arm and eye in the battle.

Jump ahead a few days and Raiden is once again back in action, but this time with a new goal. Armed with his newly upgraded cyborg body, Raiden heads to the small country of Abkhazia where the very same group that killed the president is leading a coup. Once again Raiden finds himself heading deep into the battle filed with hopes of both saving the small country, and with hopes of getting revenge.

Although Metal Gear Rising's story starts out following Raiden as he goes on jobs for Maverick, the plot soon takes an unexpected turn and focuses more on Raiden's dark side. Raiden has a very dark past as a child soldier, and throughout the game he will constantly be fighting with that "Jack the Ripper" locked away within himself. Really the plot is quite interesting, and chances are it will make you like Raiden more, but it isn't perfect.

Truthfully, if you're hoping for a game with ten or more hours of cutscenes like in past Metal Gear games, you're going to be a bit disappointed. Metal Gear Rising is an action game, and its main focus is in fact on that; the action! Although the game does have quite a few long cutscenes near the start and ends of chapters, they are no where near the length of the cutscenes from the MGS series, and there aren't nearly as many. A lot of chapters actually end, and then the next thing you'll know Raiden will be in a completely new location without showing any kind of transition cutscene. While this really isn't an issue, if you were a fan of the briefings in Metal Gear Solid 4, you might be a little bit disappointed about this as well.

Other than that the story in Metal Gear Rising is actually pretty nice, and I thought it really added to Raiden's character. Mix in a few well hidden cameos to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles second movie from the early 90s, and Zone of the Enders, and you've got a solid story mixed with some nice nostalgia from the past!

The Gameplay of Rising:

As I said before, MGR is an action game and not a stealth game like the Metal Gear Solid games; however that doesn't mean it is your standard action game, and it also doesn't mean that it is ALL action! The thing is, Metal Gear Rising actually mixes key elements of the Metal Gear Solid games with elements from action games, while also adding in some twists of its own. The game actually has quite a few systems in place, and it is really up to the player if they decide to make full use of them or not. So anyway, let me break down what makes Metal Gear Rising, Metal Gear Rising.

Action and Combos -

On the surface MGR plays a lot like your standard action game. Each level in the game follows a linear path, but at the same time there are hidden areas for you to explore. Sometimes you'll find doors you'll be able to open which may lead to a hidden part of the level, other times you'll find hidden paths that'll lead you to item boxes and upgrades, and you might even come across some extra bosses or enemies from time to time as well. This is the standard formula for most action games, and it is a formula that has always worked well. The game keeps you going in the right direction, but it also gives you enough reason to explore every inch of the area around you.

Also just like in most action games, Metal Gear Rising features a wide range of combos and attacks for you to unleash on your enemy! Every single enemy in the game has their own unique fighting style, and as you fight them you will slowly start to learn what combos and attacks worth the best against them. Metal Gear Rising uses a standard two button combo system (one button for your fast attacks and one for your strong attacks), and by mixing them up as you press different directions on the analog stick will cause Raiden to preform a wide range of combos and attacks. Really it's a lot to remember, but once you master it, it is actually quite satisfying! Add in the fact that there are quite a few side weapons to use besides Raiden's sword, and you'll find yourself engaging in some deep combat!

Really the only problem you might have with the gameplay of MGR is the fact that you'll want to compare it to OTHER games you've played (specifically another game that features a ninja). Rising doesn't use a guard or dodge system like most action games, and because of that you actually have to learn how to parry, and jump out of the way of incoming attacks. If you're used to action games that don't require dead on timing, this may take quite some time to get used to.

Zandatsu -

Although sword play is quite common in action games such as this, Metal Gear Rising does something a little more unique with it! The Zan-datsu system (meaning "Cut and Take") is a core feature in Rising, and it is one that you must learn to master if you hope to make it through the game! As you deal damage to your enemies a bar under your health bar will build up, and once it is full you can enter a special state that slows down time, and allows you to take full control over your blade. By using the left and right analog sticks to aim, you can actually freely aim and cut ANYTHING in ANY direction possible! This becomes a very important system, and can actually be used in many different ways.

First of all, the world around you can actually be cut into pieces and destroyed! You can cut the supports on a bridge at an angle to cause the bridge to collapse (killing everyone standing on top of it), you can stab through a wall to sneak attack a poor unsuspecting cyborg, you can cut open doors and gates to make your own entrance, or you can even just cut everything up you see just for the heck of it! Really it is a very fun system to play around with, and seeing that kind of freedom in a game like this is quite refreshing! Even so, the "take" aspect is what's really the most important thing here.

When you attack enemies with your standard combos in Rising, parts of them will actually begin to glow blue! These glowing blue parts are parts that can actually be cut off of the enemy, and that can be used in many different ways! You can cut the arms off of enemies to prevent them from attacking, cut their legs off to prevent them from moving (without killing them), and you can sometimes even just remove their weapons and let them go! On the other hand, you can cut through the glowing red part of their body, rip out their guts, and use it to recharge your life and energy. Yep, you read that right. The Cut and Take of Zandatsu is actually you cutting enemies bodies open, ripping out their robotic insides, and using it to recharge your health!

Sometimes boss battles will also trigger a special Zandatsu mode as well, but for the most part you'll be using it of your own free will!

Metal Gear Solid and Stealth Systems -

Even though this is an action game (and not part of the Metal Gear Solid series), it does retain some features from it. The game still has stealth, sub items, and a few other systems found in MGS as well. The game features a "sub item" menu which can be accessed by pressing left/right on the D-Pad, and it offers a wide verity of items for you to use. There are healing items which restore health and energy (which can also be set to auto heal you when your health hits 0), there's Metal Gear Solid styled items, there's sub weapons (which are weapons other than swords), and then there's your main weapon.

The Metal Gear Sold style items in this game, are items that you see in MGS. There's the box and barrels you can use to hide in, there's 3D models which replace the "adult book" from past games and is used to sidetrack guards, there's RPGs and Anti Air Missiles, and there's also grenades as well! These items can be found allover the game, and to pick them up all you have to do is run into them; however there is a limit to how many of each item you can hold, so any extra items will be turned into money instead.

By using these different items you can actually tackle different sections of the game in different ways. You can fight helicopter battles MGS style by shooting rockets at it, or you can hide in a box and sneak past guards as you kill them from behind; it really does help mix up the gameplay, and it allows Metal Gear Solid fans to at least hold onto something from the past.

Raiden's Upgrades:

Like in most action games, Metal Gear Rising also features an upgrade system which allows Raiden's skills and abilities to progress with the game. While at the start of the game you will be very limited on what you can upgrade, as you go through the story more options will become unlocked. With this upgrade system you can upgrade everything from Raiden's health, to the attack power of your weapons, to how much energy the weapons use, and even unlock special upgrades which change the way Raiden looks! By killing enemies in the game, scoring high ranks on the levels, and by picking up items you can gain points to spend. Although it is completely impossible to max everything out on a single playthrough, all of your unlocks do carry over into new game plus!

As of the time of this review there are currently only a handful of swords and skins for you to unlock, but this may not always be the case. Metal Gear Rising also uses DLC and more upgrades may be added into the game at a future date. (In fact if you preordered the game at a few select stores you could have actually gotten Gray Fox and his Fox Blade from Metal Gear Solid 1!)

The Codec:

In the Metal Gear series, the Codec used to play a major role. In the older games quite a few major scenes of the game were actually codec calls, and there were hundreds of extra calls you could see as well. By calling during bosses, calling after cutscenes, or by calling as you stood in specific areas you would trigger some unique chats which would greatly expand the story of the game; however that doesn't happen as much in the newer games. In games like MGS4 codec calls were very limited, and were mostly used during cutscenes. Although some fans may actually like this set up better, quite a lot of people actually missed the old call system, and apparently Platinum games realized it!

The Codec in Metal Gear Rising is just like the Codec that was used in the early Metal Gear Solid Games, and there are a LOT of calls to be heard! Now although these calls are not required to beat the game, I strongly recommend listening to every single one! They greatly added to the game's story, they feature a lot of character development, as well as a lot of back story and fan service. New calls normally open up after each check point or cutscene, and also during mini bosses, bosses, and when you come across new enemies. Each character has quite a lot to say, so you really have to keep calling them until they start to repeat an old message (if you don't then you'll actually miss out on quite a lot).

Besides being used for chats, the Codec also has a character that is used for saving your game also; however even this has been greatly improved upon over past games. In the past you would actually have to save your game if you wanted to talk to the character (players of MGS2 will remember how much of a pain it was calling Rose and saving just to hear her conversations with Raiden), but this time around you can actually hit "no" when you are asked if you want to save, and STILL hear the conversation! This was a very much needed improvement, and I can only hope that Kojima will realize this for future releases in the core Metal Gear Solid series!

VR Missions:

Ever since the VR bonus game that was released on the PlayStation One, Metal Gear games have always seemed to feature some kind of bonus mode, and this time around that comes in the form of VR missions! Now this isn't the first time these bonus missions were "VR" missions (in fact MGS2 also included VR missions, and even Assassin's Creed Brotherhood had them due to their partnership with Konami), but it is the first to feature them in a different way.

While in the past games (including AC Brotherhood) these missions were mostly stealth based, this time around they feature a wide range of missions including ones heavily based on combat! Each mission tests your skills, and they all have a high score for you to shoot for! If you're a fan of arcade styled games, the VR missions will most likely be something you'll be spending a lot of time on! Although you won't be able to play them from the very start...

To unlock VR Missions in Rising, you actually have to search the levels for hidden computers that contain them! Each computer contains a single VR mission, and there are normally a few hidden throughout each level. Although this style of unlocking missions is new to the Metal Gear series, it isn't new for Kojima. If you've ever played Kojima's other game "Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner," then I'm sure this system will seem very familiar to you.

The Playtime of Rising:

Although Metal Gear Rising is in fact an action game, it is actually a pretty long action game! Now don't get me wrong, it isn't the longest action game out there, but that doesn't mean it is a short game either. The thing is, it is actually pretty hard to tell just how long Metal Gear Rising is because of the way the game counts time. You see the gameplay clock actually doesn't time most of your actions in the game, and because of that it is really hard to tell how long you have actually been playing it! For example you may actually spend two to three hours watching cutscenes and codec chats, but the game might say you've only been playing for twenty minutes or so. Apparently the clock doesn't count cutscenes, codec chats, menus, the customization screen, and it may not even count time spent OUTSIDE of battle either. In the end, you may actually spend 15:00 - 20:00 on this game, but your play time at the end may actually only be 5:00 - 6:00. Really though, Rising is what you make out of it, and it can last as long as you want as well. If you watch all of the cutscenes and codec chats you'll find a pretty long game, but if you speed run through it, it may actually be over in just a few hours.

Even so, Metal Gear Rising is a game that was designed to be played over and over again as you work your way up through the difficulty levels. Although starting on normal might be the best option, you really don't have too much of a reason to stay on normal once you've finished the game for the first time. There's three more settings higher than normal, and each one of them is a pretty big step up from the last! By the time you've gotten to the end of it all, you'll be a MGR master!

The Good and the Bad:

Metal Gear Rising is really a hard game to judge. There are going to be people who'll love it, there will be people who hate it, there will be people who love it because its an action game, there will be people who'll hate it because it isn't Metal Gear Solid, and some people might either buy it or pass on it because the lead character is Raiden. Really everything about Rising is going to cause some controversy, and there is really no way to avoid that. Even so if you just get right down to it, the game does a lot of things right, and it has some areas that it could improve on as well.

To put it simply, Rising is a solid action game, it can be as easy or as challenging as you want it to be, it has a lot of fan service for you Metal Gear fans, the whole cutting system is a nice addition, the stealth (although limited) is fun and helps mix the game up, the VR missions are a nice extra, the game has some AMAZING BOSS BATTLES, and the story is pretty nice as well! Another thing that really stands out is also the game's great soundtrack, as well as the rock theme songs that play during the boss battles! Really there is a LOT to like here, and it is a game I'd recommend to both Metal Gear fans and action game fans alike. Still, it isn't perfect....

Although the areas you go to in the game are quite nice, there really aren't that many, and they do tend to lack verity. Sure you'll run across some areas that will just really stand out, but (like I said) there really aren't many of these. Another little complaint is the fact that the camera can also be a little bit hard to get used to, and it can sometimes be hard to see everything that is around you! I mean sure you can lock onto targets, but when you have about ten or so enemies all trying to grab you and beat the heck out of you, it can be kind of hard to keep track of where they are all at. It isn't a major problem, but it is something you might find yourself fighting with from time to time. The final "issue" is the fact that the graphics may not be considered "top notch" by today's standards. Now I'm not one to complain about graphics (and I'm not complaining), but I would like to warn anyone who is obsessed with them, that the game doesn't look as amazing as you might have hoped. Due to the nature of the game (as in hundreds of object shards flying allover as you slice things to a million bits), the graphics really couldn't be as outstanding as you might have hoped; this would have caused frame rate problems, and it wouldn't have been worth it. (Why would you damage the gameplay just to make it look a little nicer?)

Anyway despite these few flaws, Metal Gear Rising has a LOT of good, and it is a VERY solid game! It is a game that will provide you with many hours worth of gameplay, and it is also the game that finally continues the story from where Metal Gear Solid 4 left off! Even if you're not a huge fan of Raiden, please don't let that turn you off from this game; give it a chance and chances are you'll find that the Raiden you once knew is long gone.

In the end (with all things considered), I give Metal Gear Rising a 9/10. Not perfect, but pretty close! Really I couldn't have asked for anything more! Although I do hope the sequel Kojima is talking about does in fact improve on the formula!

Kingdom Heats X (Chi)!

News about the Kingdom Hearts series! Sort of! Well, they are about the Kingdom Hearts series, though I'm not entirely sure about the revealed game's canontity, and it's a little disappointing for those of you waiting for Kingdom Hearts III.

Well, just a few days ago, SQUARE revealed the game they first revealed at Tokio Game Show 2012 to be Kingdom Hearts X[chi], a browser MMO card game.

According to the SQUARE blog, the players in the game will be able to "control their own hero and venture through various Disney worlds," and "obtain cards; which will be utilized for strategic battles and fight against enemies along friends." The game is also said to have a "new system with feelings of sensation."
The game will be free to play, though some items, and maybe a premium membership of some sorts, will be priced. It's release date at the moment is unknown.

The game is also developped by Success Inc., whose previous titles include Operation Darkness, Metal Saga, and Tokyo Beat Down.

The first additions of KINGDOM HEARTS HD 1.5 ReMIX will include a Sora card, 20,000 Munny, and a card with 4,000 points to be used in games. SQUARE's e-shop version of said game will also include bonuses, though slightly different, which are: A Riku card, Potion x10, and Ether x10. These bonuses will be, of course, limited.

I'd like to thank to Kingdom Hearts Insider for the information and pictures posted here. Hope that didn't disappoint you TOO much. I'm waiting for Kingdom Hearts III too, you know.

The legend of heroes trails in the sky trilogy coming to PC!

Hello there readers! I am very excited to tell you these news!
cute MSN onions

If some of you know me well then you should know that i LOOOOOVEEEEEE The legend of heroes trails in the sky series! The games are a mix of turnbased RPG meets strategy RPG. I played the first game on the PSP and loved the heck out of it (i even made a first impression of it in the old Game room over at Capcom Unity and that was my first post on the game room xD). Well anyway Falcom (the developers of the game duh and NOT capcom) are going to release a updated port of the whole trilogy for the PC! Here are some pics of the three different games:

Trails in the sky:

The Legend Of Heroes: Trails In The Sky Trilogy Coming To Windows 8 In April The Legend Of Heroes: Trails In The Sky Trilogy Coming To Windows 8 In April
The Legend Of Heroes: Trails In The Sky Trilogy Coming To Windows 8 In April The Legend Of Heroes: Trails In The Sky Trilogy Coming To Windows 8 In April
Trails in the sky SC (second chapter):

The Legend Of Heroes: Trails In The Sky Trilogy Coming To Windows 8 In April The Legend Of Heroes: Trails In The Sky Trilogy Coming To Windows 8 In April

All three games will be in stores 12 April and each title will cost 3990 yen (about 43$), here's a food of thought apparently these games are specifically made for the Windows 8 although Falcom states that these games should work even on low spec laptops, if its only for windows 8 they haven't told yet but i hope not.

Here's also another food of thought Xseed which localized the first Trails in the sky game are actually working on translating SC but since the PSP is pretty much dead they were not sure how they would profit from the game but Falcom has been porting most of their older Ys games for the PC and even to Steam! So the best bet would be that Xseed ports SC and hopefully even the third to steam.

I just really hope that we get a translation soon! I want to play the sequels so bad now

But alright that's all from me now so see you later readers and get your ass of that chair and get The legend of Heroes trails in the sky for the PSP and support this series! Trust me if you like good well written story's and RPG/strategy you will have a blast with this game.

Metal Gear Rising - Revengeance Mode

Well it's been a few days since Metal Gear Rising finally was released, and I'm sure a lot of you have already been playing it! But did you know there is actually a secret mode that can be unlocked? Yep that's right! By entering a very well known code on the title screen, you can actually unlock a harder gameplay mode called "Revengeance!"

Now what this mode basically is, is the Metal Gear Rising version of "European Extreme" mode you may have become used to from the Metal Gear Solid games. This mode is much harder than the "Hard" and "Very Hard" modes of Rising, and it is designed to offer you the ultimate challenge in game! So, how do you unlock it? What well known code does it use? I'm sure you've guessed it by now...

On the title screen if you enter "up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A, start" (up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, O, X, start for the PS3 version) you'll hear Raiden say "Revengeance" and the mode will become unlocked for you to play in story mode! Yep that's right, the well known Konami Code!

So anyway, if you haven't checked it out yet I recommend you do so! Although it's really better that you beat the game at least once before you jump into this mode, I'm sure some of you will want to have the hardest challenge possible for the get go, and that's what this code will allow!

Good luck everyone! (You're going to need it!)

PlayStation 4 - Overview

So, did you guys watch the announcement last night? Well if not, today I'm going to go over the main features of the PS4! Now please keep in mind that I'll only be able to cover information that Sony announced, and I will not be talking about any rumors. If Sony didn't flat out say it, then it will not be brought up here! Well anyway, lets get started!

The Controller:

It turns out that the PS4 controller is the controller that has been floating around the net for the past week. As you can see, the PS4 controller is still a lot like the PS1-3; however there are also some core differences and improvements made to the design! First of all, the D-Pad is no longer completely encased in the plastic shell, and it has buttons that are at a slant making it easier to use. It's actually a lot like the Vita's D-Pad and that right there is a big improvement on its own!

The second major difference is that the analog sticks have been updated as well. If you've read my Top 10 Video Game Controller list, you would know that my biggest complaint about their old controller was the analog sticks. Due to the original's rounded top, it was easy for your thumb to slide off, especially when you were playing fighters which required combos such as 421 (left, down, down left). Well anyway, by adding a ring around the top, the grip of the analog sticks has been increased, and that is going to help out quite a bit in the long run!

Other than that, the face buttons are still basically the same, but a few new buttons have been added as well. Now there is actually a "share" button which allows you to actually share videos of your gameplay! You see as you play your games your PS4 is always recording and streaming it live to the internet, so by hitting share you can actually go back and select the times you would wish to upload, then flat out share it to your favorite social networks/with friends! It's a really nice feature, and it makes making gaming videos so much easier!

On top of the share button a touch panel has been added in as well. Apparently it's a lot like the Vita's touch panel, but details on how it'll be used are still limited. It's there, and developers can use it, but we really have no idea HOW they will use it.

Other changes made to the controller include better trigger buttons, and a light on the top of the controller that now shows what player number you are, and the controller also uses a censor bar (placed under or above your TV) to help it tell just where it is located in 3D space.

The Console:

Well, Sony didn't show off what the actual console looks like, but they did share off some of the things it will be able to do! The specs of the system are as followed (for all of you tech junkies out there): 8-core 64-bit x86 central processing unit by AMD, it has a second CPU used only by the system, it's GPU is based on next gen AMD Radeon graphics tech and runs at 1.84 TFLOP/s, the system has 8 GB worth of RAM (which allows for 176 GB/s of bandwidth), and it will feature 802.11 b/g/n Network Connectivity. It also uses USB 3.0, HDMI, and Blue Tooth 2.1.

So, what does all of this mean? Well, it means that it'll be a power house and be able to do things the PS3 can't; although we all already knew that didn't we?

No Wait Times and Background Operations:

According to Sony, the new console is going to be extremely fast, and they wanted to get back to the days of video games where you simply hit the power button and you were playing. Consoles didn't have start up times, you didn't have to wait for a game to load, and all you had to do was turn the console on. Well thanks to  the second CPU, and the way the console is deigned in general, the PS4 will be able to do just that!

There will no longer be load times, the console will start the moment you hit the power button, and it'll also actually start up where you left it when you turned it off! Instead of fully shutting down, when you turn off your console it is going to enter in a very low power state which will save everything that you were doing at a time. Were you in the middle of a game when something came up and you had to leave the house? Well, no problem! Just turn your console off, then come back later and pick up your game right where you left it! Really that right there sounds like a great feature to me, and it is one of the reasons I really liked the PSP and Vita.

Besides that, the second CPU allows for everything to be dealt with in the background on the PS4! Just like with a computer, as you play a game everything else will keep running as well. Downloads will download in the background, updates will download in the background, other apps can be up and running in the background, the social features will be running in the background, and none of it will have any kind of impact on the game you are playing. This is a complete 180 from what the PS3 was, where you could only have a game running and only had access to limit features (such as the friends list) while doing so.

Downloading as you Play:

Another new feature the PS4 will have is the ability to play games as you actually download them! Mixed with Sony's new "fastest internet ever" version of PSN, you will be able to download a game, start playing the game after just a few minutes of wait time, and have the rest of it download as you go through the game. In other words, by the time you reach that next level/area, it'll be downloaded and ready for you to play, and as you do so the next area/level will be downloaded. Basically instead of having to wait a few hours for that 10 GB game to finish, you can just jump in right away.

Streaming and your Friends:

As I said before, there is now a new share button on the PS4 controller that allows you to share video you have streamed; however what I failed to mention is that you are actually STREAMING that video! By clicking on your friends on PSN, you can actually open up a stream of what they are doing at that very moment! A chat box opens up on the right side so you can send messages to them/talk to them (and the other people watching), and you are able to see everything as it happens in real time. On top of that YOU can actually take control of their game if they allow you to, and control it remotely from your PS4! Yep, you can actually play games on other peoples consoles even if you don't own it! Although, this isn't the only way the PS4 uses streaming video!

Vita Connection:

The PS4 will also be able to connect and stream video to the PlayStation Vita as well. You can simply turn the channel on your TV, pick up your Vita, and continue playing on there. No second game is required (unlike the current set up with the PS3 and Vita), and the streaming is seamless! Still, this feature can only be used if you have a Vita, so it's not something everyone will use.

Other Devices:

Although the details are limited here as well, other devices (such as mobile devices) will be able to connect to PSN with a brand new PSN app. This will allow you to interact with your games while you are away from home, and it will be offered on a wide verity of devices.

Tech Demos:

Well to finish off this blog, I figured I would go ahead and post a tech demo or two to show off just what the PS4 can do. Now one of the following demos are from last year, but that doesn't mean it still isn't impressive. Keep in mind that these videos are running completely in real time! This is all in game, and not CGI cutscenes.

Note: I recommend watching these at 720p or 1080p if possible.

List of Games Announced:

Finally, I want to end this blog post with a list of games that were announced for the PS4.

PlayStation Live Event today! - 6 PM EST

Well I just wanted to remind everyone that today is the big day! Sony's PlayStation live event will be starting at 6 PM EST time, and can be watched at the following location:

https://us.playstation.com/meeting2013/

Although we really don't know what's all going to be announced here, we do know that it IS some pretty big news! For the past week Sony has been releasing history videos, and it seems that everything has finally lead up to today. Is it the PlayStation 4? I'd say so! On top of that Sony has also been crediting PlayStation Network accounts with $10.00! Maybe now is the time to buy that cheap game or that next DLC pack you've been looking at?

Happy Jill Valentine's Day from Netto's Game Room!

Note: This is a special post originally created for Capcom-Unity for "Jill Valentine's Day."

Back in the 1990s, there were a lot of things you just didn't see in video games. Story development was still limited outside of RPGs, most games were either action based, puzzle based, or turn based, and females were normally seen as the damsel in distress. Now sure, there was the occasional exception to this, but for the most part the video game market was sill quite limited. I mean, heck, everyone had gotten used to the way things were, and not many people were really willing to try something new; however in 1996 Capcom did just that. Not only did they bring us a game that would jump start an entire video game genre, but they also brought us one with an amazing female protagonist.

Resident Evil was released in 1996 across most of the world for the original PlayStation, and it was a hit! Back then no one had really seen anything quite like Resident Evil, and it was one of the few games that could truly bring terror to those who played it. Now sure, there were other horror games on the market (including Capcom's "Sweet Home"), but none of them were really able to do what Resident Evil brought to the table. In the game players would explore a house filled with flesh eating zombies, solve puzzles, and slowly work their way to uncover the mystery of the mansion as well as the secret of the Umbrella company. Mixed in with the fact that healing items were limited, weapons were limited, and save points were limited, Resident Evil was able to provide a unique gaming experience which truly horrified gamers. Even so, this wasn't the only thing Resident Evil brought to the table!

In the original Resident Evil there were actually two characters you could play as; one was a standard "male hero" named Chris, and the other was the female protagonist Jill. Maybe it was due to the fact that Jill was a woman, but among fans she was the character who seemingly stood out the most! Not only was she a strong female character (in a 90s video game), but she also had some of her own abilities that really just overshadowed Chris! (She was the master of unlocking after all!) Back then having a character such as Jill in a video game, was actually quite rare, and soon she would quickly become one of the most well known characters in gaming history.

Since Resident Evil Jill has actually been in many different games. She was the main character of Resident Evil 3, she plays a major role in Resident Evil 5, she's appeared in games such as Marvel vs Capcom 2, and she is also a main character in the newer Resident Evil: Revelations on the Nintendo 3DS (and soon to be on the 360, PS3, and Wii U). In today's games Jill has become a very strong character, she's a specially trained member of an anti bio terrorism group, and she is a character who can just hold her own. Just like every other game series out there, Resident Evil also has one of them "cool" characters who stands out above the rest, and in many fan's eyes, that character is Jill!

Still, Jill's popularity actually doesn't stop there! In 2002 the Resident Evil films (based on Capcom's Resident Evil/Biohazard) hit the theaters, and an entire new audience was introduced to the Resident Evil cast. Soon not only was Jill a well known and popular character in the video game world, but she had became a fan favorite of movie goers as well! As time went on, Jill's fan base grew, and it wasn't long before the entire world knew her name.

Although it's been quite some time since the original game was released, Jill is still the awesome female heroin we all know and love, and I would just like to thank Capcom for bringing us this great character! So anyway, thank you, and happy birthday Jill! It  isn't everyday we get to see great female protagonists such as her, even in 2013...

Metal Gear Rising tomorrow!

Hey I just wanted to remind everyone that tomorrow is the day! The day Metal Gear Rising finally hits the store shelves! It's been around four years since "Metal Gear Solid: Rising" was announced, and it's been around two years since the day the project was restarted under a new series, but the wait is finally almost over!

For anyone who doesn't know, Metal Gear Rising is a new sub series in the Metal Gear series. While the game does in fact take place after Metal Gear Solid 4, it is a series of its own with its own style of gameplay. While the Metal Gear Solid games are stealth based action games, Metal Gear Rising is actually a "lightning" fast action game instead. Based around crazy sword play, quick reflexes, and combos. Although Rising isn't the Metal Gear Solid game many fans were expecting, it is still a unique game on its own, and a game you action fans should really check out!

Until then, why not check out one of the trailers?

NettoSaito's Fire Emblem: Awakening tips!

It's been over a week since Fire Emblem: Awakening was released in the US; however that doesn't mean everyone has gotten a chance to play it yet. Due to the shipping delay, and preorders, a lot of stores still wont have copies of the game until later this month, or even early next month. Now I'm not saying that you shouldn't give up searching for it, but what I am saying is that not everyone who wants to play the game has, and because of that I decided to make this post.

Now before I get started, I want to say one thing. There really is no right or wrong way to play a game like Fire Emblem; every character has their pros and cons, and everyone out there will most likely favor some characters and classes over others. Even so, here are some tips I would like to share with all of you who are either playing the game now, or plan on getting it on the future. Just please keep in mind that these are my own personal tips and tricks, and that they may or may not be the best for you. So anyway, with that being said, lets get started!

Minor Spoiler Warning: I will be covering information from about the first 1/4th to 1/3rd of the game. I will not spoil any major plot points, but if you want to play this game without any guidance at all, you may not want to read this.

What to do and what NOT to do:

(This is a section I decided to add to this tip post on 4/21/2013.)

If this is your first fire emblem game, here are some things you should do/what you shouldn't do when starting this game. First of all, do NOT use Fredrick! He is already at his second class promotion, and because of that he will be over powered. He will be able to kill just about any unit, yes, but he'll be stealing EXP from your other units, and he will not be leveling up as fast as he should be. (What else would you expect from someone who starts out level 20 and is fighting level 1 units?) So, what should you do about this issue? Well that's simple. Unequip his weapon, use him as a human shield, and only attack with him IF you have no other option. Later on in the game you'll unlock an item called "Second Seal" which will allow you to reclass him. Use that to demote him to his base class, and that will make him useful. He will then gain exp like he should, and you'll be able to turn him into a good unit in the future.

The second thing you want to remember is to ALWAYS TALK TO UNITS WITH NAMES! If a unit has a name or a unique picture (non generic enemy soldier picture), then they can be recruited. Talk to them with Chrom as soon as you can, and avoid killing them. If you do, restart the chapter. (Note: Bosses will also have unique mugshots and names, but they cannot be recruited).

MAKE SURE YOU CHECK EVERY VILLAGE AND OPEN EVERY CHEST! There are rare items in this game, and some can be missed. For example one item is a "Boot" which allows your units to move two extra spaces farther. There are only two in the entire game, and you can easily miss it (as well as other rare items) if you don't open everything. Also if an enemy beats you to a chest first, HUNT THEM DOWN AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! Don't let them escape! On top of that you will sometimes get rare items from villages, but there may also be characters to recruit in them as well. Since chapters don't end until you kill a boss, take your time and make sure you search everything.

Easy Support Grinding, Level grinding, and money grinding without DLC:

Want to get your support levels up? How are you doing on money? Need some more? How about your stats and levels? Want to know a quick and easy way to level up? Well here's a trick which I've actually spent hours using myself, and it has worked out quite well!

During the first part of the game (which I like to call the "intro" of Awakening) you'll be able to open up an extra chapter called "Paralogue 4." Now depending on how much time you are taking with the game it may actually take a few hours to unlock it, but it is also possible to unlock it within an hour or so. Either way, this map is actually a REALLY good way to level grind your characters, build up on cash, and unlock them supports.

The map itself is a snow covered map with a lot of walls boxing the area in. While in the paralogue mission you actually start at the south end of the map; in all extra battles that take place on it you will be starting at the north end. Since the northern end of the battlefield is directly above a narrow path boxed in by walls, you are actually at a pretty big advantage which allows you to fight units head on 1v1 style. You don't have to worry about your characters being attacked from all sides, and you don't have to worry about any sneak attacks; there's really only one way for the enemies to get to you, with the other way being a long out of the way path around the edge of the map.

Although I actually recommend using this trick when your units are at at LEAST level 10 (on their base class), you can actually try this at any time if you feel like risking it. Basically what you do is go buy 10 or so boxes to call the enemies to the map, you pick the two units you want supports for, you have the character you want to level in the lead, and you simply use them to solo the entire map. While at lower levels you will be gaining a few levels per map, at higher levels (after class advancing) you'll be getting 1-2 levels per run. On top of all of that, every two map clears will also be one full support bonus, and that'll allow you to quickly max out all of your supports with one character in about an hour (except for MU's supports. Since they have a support with every character in the game, it'll take awhile before you see all of them supports).

Really this is a great way to unlock skills, and get your characters married off as well, and it also goes hand in hand with my next tip which I RECOMMEND all of you follow.

Galeforce:

Galeforce is a skill in Awakening that you REALLY need to get as soon as possible, but there's one character you should teach it to before all others. So, what is Galeforce? Well it's actually a skill that allows you to move your units twice in one turn if they kill an enemy! By finishing off an enemy with a character who has Galeforce, they will be granted an extra move which will really help you out in the long run. The thing is though, only FEMALE characters can learn this skill normally, and some females will not be able to learn it at all.

To get Galeforce you first need to class change your female units into a "Pegasus Knight," and level them up to at least level 10. At this point all of the Pegasus Knight's skills have been learned, and you can then class advance onto the next class without worrying about missing anything; however there is a bit more too it than that. You see, the Pegasus Knight can actually class change to either a "Falcon Knight," or a "Dark Flier." While the Falcon Knight focuses more on attack and has the ability to also heal, the Dark Flier is more focused on attack magic. Although Dark Fliers really aren't the best choice for characters with a low magic stat, this is the class YOU MUST CLASS CHANGE THEM TO! At level 15 Dark Fliers unlock the skill Galeforce, and that's your main goal. Still, this actually doesn't stop there. (Note: MAKE SURE THE SKILL IS EQUIP TO YOUR LAST SKILL SLOT IF YOU WANT TO PASS THE SKILL ON!)

You see, later on in the game the female (as well as a select other few) characters will be able to pass on their skills to other characters. Although most females who can learn Galeforce will actually be passing it on to other females who can learn it; there is one exception. Lissa actually passes her skills onto a male unit who CANNOT learn these skills on their own! That means this male unit actually has the ability to learn Galeforce (which is a female only skill and one of the best skills in the game), and that also allows for an amazing combo.

S level supports in Awakening are the highest level supports in the game, and they happen when characters get married. This support level provides a high stat boost, and it makes married couples just about unstoppable, and that's where things can get even better for this male unit. Not only can he learn Galeforce, but he can marry a female unit who ALSO has Galeforce! In other words, he'll have the highest stat bonuses possible when paired up with her, and since they both have it, they can actually move THREE times in a single turn! Simply kill an enemy with the male unit, move, switch to the female unit to kill the next enemy, and then use the 3rd (and final) turn to take out a 3rd enemy (if possible). It's an amazing team combo, but it is only possible if you gave the male unit Galeforce.

WARNING: If you want to pass on Galeforce, or any other skills, you must make sure to do it BEFORE playing any of the paralogues which open up after chapter 13. Each of these side missions feature new characters to recruit, just like the side missions early on in the game, but these are the characters these skills can be given to. If you play their chapters before you unlock the skills, you will not be able to pass them on; you have been warned!

Marry Chrom to Sumia, Olivia, or the Avatar:

Now this tip is my personal recommendation, but I have good reason for it. While Chrom can get married to other characters, I strongly recommend marrying him to either Sumia, Olivia, or the Avatar (if you are female). Marrying Chrom to the Avatar will result in creating the "best" character in the entire game, while marrying him to Sumia and Olivia will create the "second best" unit in the game. This unit will be able to learn galeforce, and will also have high stats. If Chrom marries another unit however; you can kiss galeforce goodbye. It is your choice, but I still recommend getting galeforce on as many units as possible.

Well, that's my Fire Emblem: Awakening tips for today! Before I go though, I would like to say one thing... Why not try getting your luck stat up to 50? There's a few skills that add to it, and one even doubles it! Let's just say if you do, you'll never have to worry about equipment again! Good luck everyone!

Playstation 4 announcement soon? I think so!

Yesterday I'm sure some of you may have noticed this, but Sony uploaded a video to their youtube channel titled "Playstation Evolution." While its a very short video, it actually talks about the history of the Playstation One, and it ends with the new Twitter hash tag #Playstation2013. Now this isn't proof that the Playstation 4 will be announced soon, but really I think there's a pretty good chance that it's coming soon!

For quite some time we've known that Sony has planned on announcing something big this month, and for the past few days "Playstaiton 4" controllers have been showing up on gaming news sites such as GameSpot. Really, if something big wasn't coming, why would Sony be doing all of this?

Now we've known that Sony's developers have had the "next gen" development kit for quite some time now (so we all know that the PS4 is coming), but there is still a chance that this "big news" isn't the PS4 as well... I really don't want to get anyone's hopes up... Anyway, why not check out the video for yourself?

I would also like to point out that this video is titled "The Beginning" which hints that there may be quite a few more videos released over the next few days. If you're interested, I recommend subscribing to their Youtube channel so you don't miss a thing!

RoosterTeeth's RWBY

Now although this isn't directly tied to gaming, this is something I just had to share, and I'm pretty sure quite a few of you have heard of it already.

As you may know, RoosterTeeth has put out some pretty crazy things over the years. They've got all of their gaming shows, they've teamed up with Mega64 for some specials, they've made trailers for fake movies (I recommend checking out the Angry Bird one myself), and they also have quite a few long running series such as "Red vs Blue." Well, now they've got a new show coming out, and it was something I just HAD to post about!

Coming out sometime in 2013 (with a live premiere at RTX 2013) is a brand new animated (anime styled) show called "RWBY" by Monty Oum. Although details about the show are still pretty limited, they have released two trailers now, and both are quite impressive! Here check them out!

Warning: May contain content not suitable for all audiences.

Red Trailer:

White Trailer:

So, what do you guys think? Chances are this will stand out the most to you anime fans out there, but for everyone else, you might want to give it a shot as well! Really it's too early to judge just how good it will actually be, but I can say that the fight scenes are done amazingly well. That's a plus in my book!

A new (old) writer approaches!

Shalom! My dear readers its Cheerfuljochan here (but call me CJ), if some of you who have been paying attention to Capcom unity then you know that i am actually one of Netto's old writers for the Game room and some of you may also know that i haven't been very active there lately at all. .  . Well thats a long and boring story to tell why but for you newcomers i am basically the guy that likes to talk about Indie gaming and likes to highlight some very obscure and almost unknown games. I will repost a old indie review here later that will show you my style of reviewing and a hidden indie gem that you REALLY should download (most of the indie games i review are free).

UPDATE: Ok i have reposted it but since Netto was picky on what date it was actually posted it has gone way back to 1st may 2012 so you will find it in our blog archive on that date, check it out! :D

For other information i am a Finnish guy living in Sweden so you will probably notice some small grammar mistakes that i can make every now and then . . . . . Just so you know so please don't become a grammar nazi against me.

And even though i personally like concentrating on blogging about games and anime i want to later make some videos here where i make some kind of lets play of this or that game but because i am unskilled in video editing it will not be in the near future. And if there is something happening somewhere in the world that really gets my attention and may or may not be related to gaming but most of them probably will be related to gaming or anime i will talk about that to.

And well i hope you guys and gals will actually read my blogs i will post here later and i hope you will enjoy them have a nice day!

Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D

Just a short update, one of the last things announced during today's Nintendo Direct was Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, a straight port of one of the greatest games on the Wii to the 3DS in full 3D. This isn't the Donkey Kong Country Returns 2 I was hoping for (one that's based strongly off of DKC2, like the first game's base off of DKC1), but it still looks like an interesting new way to experience the game, and it looks like they might give the DK series more attention from now on. A 3D trailer was released exclusively on the 3DS eShop, which I recommend you check out.

I can't say from what was shown if the graphics or sound quality have taken a hit, as the 3DS video is really compressed, but it looks like it'll be a fun way to experience what was a masterpiece on the Wii.

Now hurry up and make Donkey Kong Country Returns 2!
Or better yet a new Donkey Kong Country that's completely original.

"The Year of Luigi"

So this morning on Nintendo Direct, Mr. Iwata came onscreen... wearing a Luigi hat. Is he just being silly? No, in fact. Iwata was announcing the "Year of Luigi", a year where they focus on the green-capped brother for once. After a short discussion about Luigi's history (where Iwata curiously avoids talking about Mario is Missing), Iwata lead the topic to the announcement of Mario & Luigi: Dream Team (which you can read about in Netto's earlier post) and a new Mario Golf for the 3DS. Not much more attention than usual for the man in green, but Iwata also introduced a new face to Nintendo Direct: Shigeru Miyamoto, who hadn't appeared on Nintendo Direct before. Miyamoto, via his translator, in the spirit of "The Year of Luigi", began talking about Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon.

Now, I was skeptical about Dark Moon from the beginning. I'm a BIG fan of the original Luigi's Mansion and I was concerned that this sequel wouldn't do the original justice. Miyamoto's appearance here, though, made me realize that they're working hard to make this game a unique experience, and one that should be very enjoyable regardless of any previous games.

Not much new information was given, but it was elaborated on, and the developers' vision for the game was discussed in greater detail, which you can read below.

The first thing that Miyamoto brings up in his discussion is how much he wanted to see Luigi's Mansion in 3D, both during and after the game's development. If you didn't know, Luigi's Mansion was the testing ground for a lot of the GameCube's effects and programming. One of these effects being stereoscopic 3D. They couldn't get it just right, however, and ended up cutting 3D from the game. In other words, Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon is being made on the 3DS to finally achieve that. He also mentions the fact that they wanted to add a lot of visual depth and immersion to the game, and with some of the scenes they showed during this discussion, it looks like they succeeded.
An art room. This really pops out during the video.
This area really shows off the lighting well, as well as the architectural detail.
A room with a mirror on the back wall, although it's a bit hard to tell it's a mirror at first.
The next thing Miyamoto brings up is the atmosphere. Walking through dark, unfamiliar hallways with just a flashlight to guide your way, he says that the dev team was paying attention to this kind of atmosphere, and the scenes they show during that bit really seem to show that they did. He also mentions the shading being very immersive, which is then showed off as well.
This really does have a good atmosphere.
Luigi walking in a presumably outside area. Note another mirror effect in the back.
A flash of lightning strikes as Luigi tries to get past two carnivorous plants.
Not much new was revealed about the game, however. Miyamoto does imply more focus on puzzle solving, but the examples he gives us are mostly things that were in the first game, such as sucking up tablecloths, making a ceiling fan spin and sucking up and shooting projectiles at enemies. He does show off a few interesting ways of using the Poltergust though, like a puzzle involving sucking up a bucket, and pouring water into it. There were a few things shown off here and there that were new, however.

The Poltergust, in addition to having the strobe light, also has something called a "Dark Light". Flashing it seems to make invisible objects slightly tangible, and cause dark orbs to float around near it. Sucking up these orbs makes the invisble object fully tangible and usable by Luigi.

After discussing the Dark Light, Miyamoto begins discussing the basic gameplay that was revealed a while ago, going over a few clips of some new ghosts (and a Boo, which doesn't look nearly as detailed as it did in the original), before starting to discuss a new ghost in depth: a ghost dog.

This dog appears to function similarly to the Gold Mice or Speedy Spirits from the original game, although it appears that it steals money from you in the first place (or whatever that golden bone is). You then have to use the Dark Light to track the dog's footprints back to whatever wall it's hiding in, although we don't get to see Luigi suck it up, or what happens when you do, they do show a short cutscene of the dog eating a key and running off.

There was one other thing I noticed about this presentation. I'm not sure if this has been in any footage before, but there was a short clip of a Toad walking with Luigi in an icy cavern. Is it some kind of escort mission? Helping the Toad escape the mansion? I find it interesting either way.

One of the last things Miyamoto goes over is that it's not really supposed to be a scary game. They seemed to put a lot of focus into the comical-looking ghosts and their interactions with Luigi, which does seem kind of interesting, if more lighthearted than the original.

Really I can't do any of this footage justice with words and unmoving pictures, the game is really beautiful and seeing and hearing all of this is much better than anything I could express it with. So if you haven't seen the Nintendo Direct already, then go check it out here.
